C25 – Gu Feidao’s Plea

“Gu Feidao?”

Liu Yuan was puzzled, ‘Why does he want to see me? It was probably because of Gu Siyin… Right. A man who appeared out of nowhere just claimed to be her teacher and killed the disciple from an immortal cultivation sect. Surely he wants to see me.’

He muttered, “Or perhaps he got angry because Siyin ran away crying yesterday? No, that’s unlikely. After all, I have already made clear my relationship with Rong Rong.”

Indeed, reality was always more complicated and unpredictable than the game.

Liu Yuan opened the door and saw some people waiting outside respectfully. Apart from the guard, there were also two maidservants carrying toiletries.

“Sir, you might want to wash up first…”

“No need. Let’s go.”

Liu Yuan picked up the sword while saying indifferently, “Why should immortal cultivators be troubled by the mortal dust?”

Well, now he got more and more used to the pretentious nonsense.

The guard smiled flatteringly, “Sure, sure. This way, please.” He hurriedly waved to dismiss the two maidservants and led the way for Liu Yuan.

On the inside, he couldn’t help but exclaim about the fickleness of human nature.

Yesterday he was just a nobody in the manor, and yet in the blink of an eye, he had become a distinguished guest who even had his own servants. In the world of Upper Central, strength ruled.

But of course, strength wasn’t everything. Liu Yuan knew about some NPCs who had established themselves and had gained a reputation for their extraordinary intelligence or special abilities.

Among them, the most famous one would be Lee Jinbei, who was known as the walking encyclopedia.

Basically, he knew everything.

By the way, Lee Jinbei also had maximum favorability points for Liu Yuan.

Lee Jinbei was one of the few male NPCs in Liu Yuan’s illustrated handbook. This character was friendship-oriented only. Only those very useful, interesting or special male NPCs were qualified in his handbook.

He knew everything in the records, from astronomy, geography, to human affairs. That was why people called him the walking encyclopedia.

But there was one thing about him — he loved nothing but money.

But this was not a problem for Liu Yuan, since he had maximum favorability points.

Liu Yuan stepped out of the room.

He saw Fuhuan in the morning sunlight.

She was cultivating in the yard, practicing a palm technique. Her movements were swift and fierce, full of the beauty of strength and power, but not too wild. After a short while, her forehead was already covered in sweat.

This was quite common in the game. When Fuhuan did not have any quest, she would stay in the yard practicing martial arts, waiting for the players to trigger her daily missions.

But after what had happened, Liu Yuan started to see this scene in a different light. Both Yue Longzhang and Fuhuan were at the Foundation Establishment Stage, and yet the former was a useless second generation of the immortal family who had lived a comfortable life in Water Moon Dock and advanced with the help of pills, while the latter was repeatedly improving herself in this courtyard day after day.

Practicing martial arts was like sailing against the current, either you moved forward or you fell back.

In some sense, establishing oneself through martial arts was much more difficult than through immortal cultivation, because the success of cultivation depended on one’s aptitude, luck and background, while that of martial arts depended on training only.

But Fuhuan had once had the opportunity to cultivate. However, the sect agreed to accept her alone, so she had to give up for the sake of her family.

Liu Yuan watched her for a while and decided to go dig out that jar of wine he had promised her right after he finished with Gu Feidao.

As a treasure that was worth 10 gold, the Monkey Wine was effective in improving one’s physique and opening up one’s meridians.

He wasn’t in a hurry for other things at the moment. Things were still developing, and he could wait till the day after tomorrow to deal with Xue Zhui’s matter. If he went to dig up the treasure today, he might be able to find something useful.

His room was not far from the hall, so they arrived very soon.

The broken walls of the hall had basically been repaired — at least they now could have a roof over their heads.

Gu Feidao was sitting in the top seat. When he saw Liu Yuan, he dismissed the servants, leaving only He Ren by the side, and said amiably, “Mr. Junxuan, please take a seat.”

As soon as Liu Yuan sat down, he said, “Master Gu, I believe you ask me to come here because of Siyin, right?”

Although Gu Feidao seemed like a kind old man, in fact, he was much more ruthless than the cultivators from Water Moon Dock.

This one could tell from the way he nurtured his illegitimate grandson.

However, this part of the story was never explicitly described, and it involved a lot of complicated sub-plots, which started a craze among players. A lot of people even created new IDs just to go back to the Novice Village to search for clues.

Liu Yuan also planned to go find that newly found heir of Pool Feather Mountain Manor, though never recognized, also Gu Siyin’s nephew, a nine-year-old kid named Gu Chang.

Anyways, he had to deal with Gu Feidao first.

Water Moon Dock did not have good intentions, but Gu Feidao, who had been in the martial world for many years, was not to be trifled with.

But for Devil Cult’s intervention, it would be very difficult for Water Moon Dock to take down Pool Feather Mountain Manor.

Gu Feidao looked at Liu Yuan from the top, “Mr. Junxuan seems to know all.”

Liu Yuan replied with a smile, “I have been in your manor for a month. I have nothing to do other than tutoring your daughter. What else would you want to ask me about?”

Gu Feidao was a bit surprised, and then he laughed, “You’re right. I’m asking you here because of Siyin.”

“My daughter is a spoiled, arrogant girl. Please do forgive her for her bad manners.”

This time Liu Yuan was the one who got surprised. He had thought that the old man would offer him money to keep away from his daughter.

But it seemed that he had actually given his consent to Liu Yuan teaching his daughter.

Liu Yuan thought for a while and said, “I think Siyin acts this way only because she wants to protect herself. I know deep down she is just a sensible, innocent little girl…”

Gu Feidao sighed, “I want to ask you favor. If something happens to Pool Feather Mountain Manor, I hope you can take my daughter away and protect her.”

Liu Yuan was stunned. He hesitated for a moment before saying, “Master Gu, what do you mean?”

Gu Feidao let out another long sigh. He stood up and said firmly, “Let me ask you something. You are against this marriage, aren’t you?”

Liu Yuan nodded. He supposed that Gu Feidao also knew well what Water Moon Dock wanted out of the marriage…

Sure enough, Gu Feidao continued, “May I ask why?”

Liu Yuan pretended to be thinking for a while and then said, “Water Moon Dock wants to take control of Pool Feather Mountain Manor by marriage. They must be up to something. As Siyin’s teacher, I’m obliged to protect her, so I object to this marriage.”

“Is that all?”

“That’s all.”

Gu Feidao sighed bitterly, “Mr. Junxuan, let’s not beat around the bush. As her father, I know very well what’s on Siyin’s mind.”

Before Liu Yuan could say anything, Gu Feidao cupped his fists and knelt down in front of him.

“Master Gu! What are you…”

Liu Yuan was utterly shocked. One should know that Gu Feidao was an arrogant, invincible big shot in the martial arts world. Like he said, he had once killed a cultivator at the Core Formation Stage with his bare hands.

But now, he actually showed him such great respect. What was he trying to do?
