19 – Loosing Hope

It was not surprising that the worlds outside the wall and inside the wall were as different as black and white! People outside the wall couldn’t imagine the comfort inside the wall, the people inside the wall also couldn’t imagine the terror outside the wall! Just like the current reaction of the newbies! Someone even complained about the lack of hot water!

When the moral of newbies reached its lowest point, the man who’s bawls were the most wretched suddenly felt his head sink, followed by a severe pain. The man clutched his bleeding head, looked at the petite figure behind him, and said through gnashed teeth: “You…”

Before he could finish speaking, Ling smashed the blood-stained stone in her had into his mouth, knocking his front teeth out. Following which, the man rolled about on the ground and bawled miserably.

Arnold silently looked at Ling. The girl was similar to the newbies. Her eyes revealed difficult to describe fear, her lovely body was shaking, her little face was devoid of blood, pale like a sheet of paper, and even her teeth could not stop clattering, yet she still said with balled up fists: “You bunch of cowards, we shared our precious bread with you, and you’re still dissatisfied and want to turn your backs on us! Now you just shrink in here and weep! You should know, the reason why you still can cry at this moment is because Luo You is fighting in your stead!”

“What’s going on?” Arnold started inquiring. Previously, he didn’t really understood what the newbies were saying because they were talking over one another. He just understood that Luo You ran away. He didn’t know the details. But now that he listened to Ling, he felt like there was more to the story.

The newbies were terrified and couldn’t tell the reasoning behind Luo You’s actions. But Ling, this young girl, was clear about this matter as she spoke. After listening to her, Arnold immediately broke out in cold sweat. Luo You escape was obviously for the purpose of luring the enemy away from the base as well as employing guerrilla warfare. He was worried that fighting the Werewolf in the base would give rise to needless casualties. Moreover, his companions would be a burden, binding his hands and feet. Therefore, the young man straightforwardly changed the battlefield.

Arnold looked into the night, where danger and death were concealed everywhere. He was unresigned as he punched his palm.

Lin Geng was the brightest one among the newbies. After listening to Ling’s description, he also realized the deeper meaning behind Luo You’s behavior, saying to Arnold in a low voice: “Are we really a burden to him…”

Arnold lowered his head. His eyes flashed in the night’s lights as he said solemnly: “We are.”

Lin Geng balled up his fists: “I’m not convinced.”

Arnold grabbed Lin Geng by the shoulder, saying: “If you’re not convinced, then stand up! Luo You is currently drawing the enemy away, but the other side still has four Evolvers rushing over! We need to make an appropriate response! Get up, you lot! If you want to return home, then work hard! Don’t let a girl look down on us!”

The newbies regarded Arnold as their big brother. They were used to listen to him and thus, were mobilized by him. They started to transport the wounded, deal with the bodies, and mend the earth wall along with the survivors They worked hard until the dawn of the following day.

The wolf chase rabbit game was nearing its end…

From beginning to end, the chase had persisted for more than twelve hours! Luo You had been running from sunset till sunrise, running at full speed without any reservations! At this moment, he felt his lungs ablaze, his legs being filled with lead, and every cell in his body being dehydrated. He could no longer squeeze out any more strength and even the scenery in front of him started blurring and flickering.

He underestimated, thoroughly underestimated the power of the A-rank Werewolf bloodline! Luo You lived for so many years in the wilderness. Whether it was chasing pray or being chased by mutants, he had spent these years running. He had absolute confidence in his stamina. He didn’t know the limits of his stamina, he had never ran that far.

Luo You believed that after Yang Feng’s one day and one night long-distance raid, even with the support of his Werewolf bloodline, he should be able to best him in terms of stamina! But he was wrong, dead wrong, thoroughly mistaken!

The Werewolf bloodline, particularly the A-rank Werewolf bloodline, was incredibly powerful. After one day and one night run plus a twelve hours chase, Yang Feng’s breathing still wasn’t in disorder and he even howled excitedly while giving chase. Apparently, he greatly enjoyed this game of tag.

Also, Luo You could see that Yang Feng was deliberately teasing him. In the first eight hours, Luo You could still pull open the distance between him and Yang Feng by a great margin, but in the last four hours, his stamina declined severely and his speed had also greatly diminished. But to his surprise, Yang Feng deliberately decreased his speed and kept a distance that was just close enough. Occasionally, Yang Feng would use his claws to provoke Luo You and force him to increase his speed, all the while taking pleasure in it.

“Blergh!” Luo You’s stamina gave way when crossing a hill. His legs went soft and he fell downhill, and rolled all the way until flat ground. As he lay on the ground, he started vomiting clotted blood from damaged internal organs as well as blood streaks from the ruptured windpipe. Once the blood splattered on the iron-plate-like scalding earth, it instantly congealed into lumps and released an unpleasant greenish-blue smoke.

“How come you’re no longer running?” Yang Feng jumped down from the top of the hill. His sharp claws ploughed gorges downhill until he steadily landed in front of Luo You. Finally, he sent a claw downwards.

Luo You wanted to dodge, but his body could no longer react in time and the claw landed on his back. The Werewolf’s claw directly tore the Rail Gun Sniper Rifle on his back in twain, turning the formidable B-rank weapon into scrap metal. With the residual force, as if cutting tofu, the Werewolf’s sharp claw pierced into Luo You’s body, pierced his lungs, and then emerged out of his chest.

Luo You could no longer move after suffering such a severe injury. He curled himself up on the ground, and kept spitting out blood. Breathing had become abnormally difficult. From time to time, bloody foam from his lungs would enter his mouth and nose, before being chocked back into his lungs. The frightening feeling of suffocation made his consciousness sink into darkness.

“It’s truly a pity to have wasted such a good weapon.” Yang Feng looked at the broken Rail Gun Sniper Rifle and said both gloomily and with a sneer. He lifted Luo You by the sharp claw pierced into his body aloft and said with a smirk: “Your skin is so fair and spotless. Irene, that witch, would be quite found of you. Truly a pity. If she were here, then you could still do it with her a few times before dying. She likes to chop off the heads of men when they climax the most. Reportedly, after men die, their members would still twitch. In their ecstasy, their members are unaware that they’re already dead.”

“Where… they…” The aloft Luo You spat out blood as he asked weakly.

“So concerned about others, are you really a person of the wilderness? Looking at your age, you should have been a student prior to the collapse, right? Huh huh. It’s ironic that a student, who doesn’t knows much more besides doing homework, managed to live this long in the Apocalypse.” Yang Feng moved his claw slightly. Although the movement was very restricted, but since the claw was embedded in Luo You’s body, the faint movement tore at his flesh, causing him to spit out even more blood.

Yang Feng moved Luo You until they were facing each other and looked at the pair of eyes behind the shadow of the cloak, which had their luster dimming, and said with a mocking smile: “My companions should have arrived by now! It… should be a bloodbath there!”
