Chapter 86 : Dinner Party

After being led to the dining room, we were ushered to sit on a round table. Francesca-san and her spouse told us to start eating as soon as the maid finished serving the food onto the table. I had already cast [Detox] to all four of us before we came into this room but still, I was feeling a little nervous. I knew for sure the food they served must be delicious but I was too nervous to taste anything.

“That’s true. He fully approves of me marrying Sigurd-sama so there’s nothing to be worried about.”
To make a long story short, this man before us was Lennox-san. The two of them met through Francesca-san’s father and they had only been married for six months when they started talking about bringing Sig-san into their marriage. He had been staying in Laserna for one month because of his work. Unable to stand her loneliness, Francesca-san then decided to chase him to Laserna which brought us here together.
As you can see, the two of them had a very good relationship. Lennox-san wanted to grant Francesca-san’s wish that was why he told Sig-san he would welcome Sig-san with open arms into their marriage!

We needed to get the paperwork as proof of completing the request. Chris-san and Fer-san also backed me up but I think Francesca-san wouldn’t withhold the paperwork from us since there were a lot of demerits from refusing.

“And… I want to add on behalf of myself as an individual, not as the leader of Luce… Can you please stop it already? Sig-san is my fiancé. If he truly wants to get married to you and break up with me then I will accept his decision because I want to prioritize his happiness but in reality, the person himself already said he doesn’t want to marry you. Sig-san is so gentle and cool so I understand why you’ve come to like him but I don’t think it’s okay to forcefully tie the person you love with you. I’m sure Francesca-san also agrees, right?”

I knew back when we were discussing the countermeasures for Fransceca-san, it would be better for me to not say anything but I was at my wits end.
Because Sig-san is mine.
I couldn’t just sit still and be pretty while Francesca-san kept on forcing Sig-san like that.

Slamming her hands on the table, stood up and yelled at us. With her emotions going haywire, Francesca-san glared at us with all her might.
“Hey, Franca, let’s stop now? If we keep on going, this matter will escalate. Not only you but father-in-law is going to be troubled as well.”
In response to Francesca-san’s outburst, Lennox-san who was sitting right beside her immediately tried to soothe her in a calming voice and tenderly rubbed her back.

His words appeared to have agitated her even more, like pouring oil into burning fire. Francesca-san slapped his hands off her and flounced out of the room.
“I’m sorry about that… We’ve already prepared the documents for you. Please take this… And Regarding the guild…”
Lennox-san stared lingeringly at the door Francesca-san had just left with before he quickly turned to us and apologized. He took some papers from the butler who had been standing dutifully behind him and handed it over to me. He then tried to ask me to not report this incident to the guild with an apologetic tone.
“Yes, I won’t say anything to the guild. We don’t see any problem as long as we can get our hand on the document. Also, I need to talk about the reward distribution for the subjugation quest with the guard team too…”
I actually didn’t have any particular intention in telling them to the guild as long as I could get the paperwork from them. Rather, reporting them out to the guild brought me more problems than it was worth…
Somehow, I felt like everything about this quest made me more tired than the actual escorting part… Haaah… I was so tired about everything that I almost forgot about the reward distribution…

Feeling worried about Francesca-san, Lennox-san kept on glancing at the door Francesca-san had just left with. He had zero interest in the subjugation reward and told me to just discuss it with Mel-san instead.
After saying his piece, he quickly got up from his seat and scurried toward the door.
“For better or worse, I guess Francesca-san comes first for him.”
“Seems like it. I believe we’ve solved the issue with this. Sorry, but can you call Mel for me?”
Sig-san asked the maid who was standing nearby to fetch Mel-san for us.
“Y-Yes!”
In the beginning, he kept on talking enthusiastically but as soon as Francesca-san had left, he became like that. Francesca-san must be the most important thing for Lennox-san.
When Mel-san came, he told us he was free so he could come to the guild with us. With that, we left the mansion without bidding the two house owners farewell.

“Fuu…. Hic… My head.. Stop stroking my head…”
“Hey, Franca? Please stop crying? Your pretty eyes are going to get swollen, you know? There’s nothing we can do if they’ve said something like that, right?”
I stroked Franca’s head, who was laying on the bed, crying her eyes out. She sent a sharp glare at me. Looking at her tears-stricken eyes sent jolts of shiver down my back. And despite her protest, she still let me stroke her head. Ah, things like this were the reason why she was so adorable in my eyes.
“Why… Hic.. The drugs… Hic… Didn’t… Work?!”
“Hm~ I had slipped a pretty powerful drug though… I guess their [Detox] is stronger than the drugs.”
I had slipped the most powerful hypnotism drug I could get my hands on but turned out, they were more skillful than I had expected. Hm~ It was truly a shame… I was hoping we could get an excellent adventurer into our flank and also get Franca’s favourite’s in tow.
