Ch23 - Little Robot

Translator: Abo Dammen

Cheng Jin spent a lot on items ranging from stunning and tasty hotdogs to fresh seafood and green veggies.

He’d been cooking soup since the morning, but when it started to exude fragrance, the first gues he’d served for was not his brother, but Asher Rigel. He had golden hair, and as he walked in, it appeared as if the sun was shining on top of his head, and there was a particular glimmer in his golden hair that made his face even more beautiful.

He didn’t come empty-handed. He was actually carrying a very huge box with his not-so-stout arms, which couldn’t have been carried in if the door had been too narrow.

Cheng Jin was awed and asked, “What have… you brought here, ah?”

“A present,” the lovely guy laughed, his voice as light as a spring breeze. “It was a thank-you present from our family.  After all, it was the general who saved my life. My family and I are extremely grateful. They wanted to thank you in person, but I was concerned they’d bother you, so I came alone.”

Cheng Jin was still astounded, staring at the box in front of him that could almost fit himself in, and murmured, “Th-Then you don’t need to bring so many, ah.”

Asher grinned as he looked across at Lu Tao, who was standing nearby. “He mentioned that you enjoy unwrapping presents.”

Cheng Jin reddened when he heard this, and felt that his image was a little tarnished, but he couldn’t blame his husband, so he could only thank him.

“You folks put in a lot of work…” Cheng Jin sighed, then hurriedly served the guest. “Please sit down. What would you like to drink? There’s tea and coffee, and I also made some hot cocoa. Would you like a cup? ”

“Hot cocoa, then, and double the sugar, please.” With great interest, Asher began to tour their house, occasionally praising them from time to time.

Little robot Cheng Cheng must’ve spotted the handsome ge since it was gliding faster than usual, and even drifted to a halt in front of Asher, its eyes flashing as it offered the hot cocoa. “Mr. Pretty, drink, please. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Cheng Cheng, and I am my host family’s favorite little robot. I am an excellent cleaner, and I enjoy listening to music as I clean the dust in the rooms. My favorite singer is Tim…”

Its chattering certainly did not arouse Asher’s dislike. The beautiful man part wasicularly interested in listening and even chatted with it. “I also like Tim. I like his song “Robot Dancing in a Skirt” best. That song is really beautiful.”

“Cheng Cheng is the first and final generation of emotional robots ,” said Cheng Jin as he tossed a few ingredients into the soup.

The presence of robots is, in reality, unavoidable. As science and technology advanced, people were able to live more comfortably and for longer periods of time, and when the progress reached a certain point, robots capable of replacing the majority of the human labor force were created. The issue of whether to give robots human emotions had been debated by many parties.

Some individuals think that robots were simply instruments utilized to replace humans in a variety of tasks. They merely need to do procedural chores and therefore were not required to feel anything. Others argue that only robots with human emotions could better comprehend humans and act in accordance with their hearts. In the end, the latter section of the people triumphed.

The newly constructed robots joined the human emotional program, and even an inventor devised a “kinship bond,” in which robots were programmed with genetic code derived from their owners’ bodies, allowing their emotions to be subtly bonded to their owners.

When the invention came out, it made the inventor famous for a while. Many wealthy people felt the robots were interesting at the time, so they paid a high price for them.

“My family also placed an order. At that time, it was me who chose to pick it up, so Cheng Cheng had similar preferences to me.” Cheng Jin blushed a little as he said this, “I like you the most, so of course he likes you best, too. When he first saw you, he was more affectionate to you than me, his little master.”

Lu Tao found it interesting. “It turned out to be like this. ” He suddenly narrowed his eyes dangerously again. “So, you like handsome men, too?”

Cheng Jin shook his head and waved his hands hurriedly. “This is not like me! I-I only like you.”

The lord general was satisfied, but he asked, “Why is it the final generation? I’ve read a lot of material, and I’ve also roughly studied the evolutionary history of robots, but I haven’t seen this one.”

“Because it was censored in the past, and if you hadn’t lost your memory, you’d know it was a big deal.” Cheng Jin was very happy to see Lu Tao listening carefully, so he said in more detail, “I was young at the time, but I heard from my brother that the inventor received 30 orders and produced 30 robots with emotions comparable to their owner’s, and one of them malfunctioned.”

“What malfunction?”

“I heard that one night, the little robot, which was apparently just a small household robot, slaughtered all of its household masters, leaving only the owner who had the same genetic code as him alive.”

Lu Tao’s eyes widened. Cheng Jin said, “It’s scary, isn’t it? When it was reported in the media, it caused a lot of buzz around the planet, and it must’ve been a lot of noise, but I don’t know.”

Cheng Jin felt a little embarrassed as he admitted, “I was so scared that I even guarded against Cheng Cheng for several days, but my brother made it clear to me. He said the killer robot did it because it heard the strong desire in its owner’s heart and was programmed by its emotion. And the reason why its little owner wanted the whole family to die was because of the abuse of his stepmother and the snubbing of his other family members.”

“But the little master later denied that he had any intention of killing his family, only saying that he was really tortured and wanted to run away from home, and he couldn’t understand why the robot did that. After that, the robot was disassembled and analyzed, and the inventor was probably monitored as well. Most of the first 30 orders were returned, and some of the completed robots were destroyed. Cheng Cheng thought he would be finished at that time. He was in a low mood everyday. He obviously wouldn’t cry, but he looked very sad.” Cheng Jin felt guilty. “My brother kept it. ”

Lu Tao listened intently and was able to explain his own concerns. “The reason this subject is so severe is because there have been reports that robots may eventually replace people, since their capabilities are so great that even hardworking humans can’t compete in some areas, and with this chance, the opposition’s voice will naturally be louder.”

He added, “After listening to you about this subject, I now understand why the Imperial Planet is curtailing robot development. The previous material I read was lacking, and I thought it was a bit of a sharp turn.”

Cheng Jin had never comprehended or considered something so meaningful. He was happy by the fact that he had assisted Lu Tao in resolving his concerns. He had previously boiled the soup and was simply simmering it on low heat. He scooped some out and handed it to Lu Tao. “Taste it. Is it good?”

As soon as Lu Tao picked it up, Asher’s voice rang out at the kitchen door. “Husband and husband hiding here to enjoy wonderful cuisine and snub one of their guest who specially visited; is it actually that good?”

Cheng Jin was bashful and stammered, “Ju-Just letting my husband have a taste. Mr. Rigel, would you like a bowl as well?”

Ignoring his old partner’s stabbing gaze, Asher grinned cheerfully and replied, “Of course I want a bowl.”

Cheng Jin served him a bowl of soup when the doorbell rang. Assuming it was his brother, he rushed to open the door without even removing his apron. Asher furrowed his eyebrows at his actions and inquired, “Who came? He’s so enthusiastic, is it—”

Lu Tao frowned and said, “His brother.”

Asher smirked. “I was going to guess it’s his brother, too. Hey, old man, what’s with your look? Why do you act like I’m trying to rob you? But having said that, you never mentioned your partner before, and you rarely came back, which made me assume you were at conflict with each other.”

Although he had undoubtedly realized that the way he and Cheng Jin used to get along was not what he had assumed, Lu Tao was nonetheless taken away and questioned gently, “Never mentioned?”

Asher shrugged. “Yeah, I’ve been your partner for three years and I’ve never met Xiao Jin. Isn’t that telling something?” He added, “But maybe I’m not worthy. After all, Mr. Mo Si still knows that he’s your husband, and Fei Li knows, too. ”

Lu Tao was obviously more concerned about something else. “Xiao Jin?”

“This isn’t strange.” Asher grinned pleasantly, drank the entire bowl of soup, and added, “Let’s go meet your brother-in-law. Speaking of which, we also know each other.” He strolled out, his customary soft look returning to his face. Lu Tao followed in his steps.

The two made their way to the living room. They expected to see Cheng Xu arrive alone, but they were surprised to discover another person accompanying him.

That man was tall, his height should be more than 1.9 meters, and when he stood, it looked as if a little mountain had been placed in front of him, yet his attractive facial characteristics contrasted with his handsome body form, which was not in any way inferior to Asher’s beauty.

Asher Rigel was obviously more surprised than he was, and he was taken aback for a moment before saying, “Cousin… Xiao Qi?”
