Shortly after my return from the Gobaldo Republic, Akane-san came to see me.

“Look, Luke-dono! My body is completely back to its normal form!”

Akane-san gleefully reported so. Just as she said, her excess fats were gone and she was back to her lean physique. By the looks of it, she really put in the effort after her brother saw her in her larger size.

“Fufufu, now I won’t be mistaken for a sumo wrestler anymore!”

“You look so proud, but aren’t you just back to the starting line? Wasn’t your reason for staying in the village to get strong enough to cross the monster controlled mountain range by yourself?”

“Huh? Y-you’re right…”

Don’t tell me you forgot…

“It has probably been a while seen you wielded your sword, so to get yourself back into the groove of things, why don’t you do some light sparring sessions with somebody?”

“I’ll do just that.”

When we went to the training grounds, we found many people earnestly swinging their swords.

The village’s hunter, guards, and adventurers were here, but they weren’t the only ones. Ordinary villagers, without any Gifts at that, were also here practicing their swordsmanship. And lately, many people from outside the village were also here to train. Such as the samurai from Edou.

“Sister!”

“Gon!?”

As soon as he saw Akane-san, a young man rushed over. It was Gon-kun, her younger brother. He was one of those samurai who came here to train.

“You’re slim again! Does that mean you’re fine now?”

“Y-yeah! I’m all better now!”

“Thank goodness! By the way, are you here to train? I was so surprised to see so many skilled people here. Even your average commoner have skills that couldn’t be taken lightly.”

In the nation of Edou, even though the samurai—their ruling class—learned to wield a sword from an early age, it would seem their commoners weren’t afforded the same treatment and weren’t even allowed to walk with a sword on their person.

So, when they saw that even regular commoners were practicing using swords, they found it quite bizarre.

By the way, swordsmanship wasn’t the only martial arts the men in the village were trying to learn.

They’ve all gotten so brawny, haven’t they?

“But I can’t imagine you losing to anyone, sister! After all, you were able to cross that mountain range all by yourself!”

“Gkk…*cough**cough**cough*”

Upon hearing her brother declare his complete faith in her, Akane-san began to cough so much, I was afraid she was going to cough out blood.

Unless she crosses that mountain and turn that lie into the truth, she’d forever me racked with guilt, won’t she?

“…sister? Could it be that you’re still…”

“T-this is nothing, Gon! As you say, I’ll fight anyone and win!”

“Even so, you’re still recuperating, so take it easy, alright?”

I mean, if she loses, she’ll probably try to commit seppuku again, won’t she?

“Very well. As for whom to fight, how about that person?”

“It doesn’t matter who they are or how many are there, I’ll take them all on!”

I recommended someone who didn’t have a Gift, but in her arrogance, she declared so.

“Ohh, a samurai from the east? Alright, let’s have a match!”

“““Me too! Me too!”””

The result: a flurry of challenges.

Fortunately, none of them had a Gift like [Swordsmanship], but…

“I’ll fight you all, of course! I’ll show you what a samurai from the east can do!”

“I must commit seppukuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!”

“Sister!!!?”

“I knew it! Everyone, take away her dagger!”

It began with her energetically taking on all the villagers she challenged, but it ended with yet another attempt at seppuku.

“To be defeated by commoners! I am disgrace to all samurai! Death is only fitting for me!”

“There’s no need for that! You took on more than ten people one after the other, of course you’ll get tired!”

“What a blunder it was to so brazenly declare that it didn’t matter how many of them there were! How could I be so shameless!”

“You see now why I told you not to raise the bar yourself!?”
