Chapter 72.1: First High School (31)

July 17, 2023 by Wyrd

[Attention players, the instance “First High School” has been upgraded to an advanced instance.]

Within the game’s main city space, the game system’s cold and ruthless announcement repeated three times, capturing the attention of numerous players in the main city space.

Game instances were divided into various types. Some instances were advanced from the beginning, while others were upgraded from lower-level instances.

These upgraded instances were few and far between, generally possessing certain peculiarities and greater difficulty compared to instances that were originally advanced.

The completion point in these instances was double that of other instances at the same level, and the items within them were extremely rare and precious, unobtainable in other instances. The ability to upgrade from a lower-level instance definitely held special significance.

Therefore, each time a lower-level instance successfully upgraded, the game system would broadcast the news, as such an upgraded advanced instance was worthy of attention.

Then... was it possible that a player accomplished something inside and caused the upgrade?

Although watching the livestream required three times the completion point, there were still many players who had an excess of points and wish to find out what’s going on. As soon as they entered the livestream hall, they discovered that a high-level player had entered this newly upgraded advanced instance.

This upgraded instance was already considered separate from the previous original instance. Someone could enter it before the previous group of players had finished, but nobody expected it to open so soon.

Originally, the players were still contemplating whose livestream to watch, but now they no longer hesitated and directly entered the livestream room of that high-level player.

Although it wasn’t particularly hot during early summer, it definitely wasn’t cold in the late afternoon either. Yet, as the crowd looked at the twisted and grotesque body on the ground, they couldn’t help but shudder.

The corpse seemed to have died with resentment, unable to close his eyes even after a long time, as he stared fixedly at the teenager across from him.

Several players’ gazes fell once again on the teenager. He was crying in fear, tears moistening his long eyelashes and cheeks, appearing fragile and pitiful.

His appearance clearly didn’t resemble that of a murderer.

However, just because he didn’t personally lay a hand on Song Yu didn’t mean he had no connection to the situation.

Perhaps it was ordered by him, carried out by his lackeys, or maybe his lackeys did it for him so he could vent his frustrations. Regardless of the situation, he cannot escape the connection, otherwise Song Yu wouldn’t have stared at him so intently.

The twisted posture of Song Yu’s body seemed as if he would rise up in the next second, taking the boy with him to hell.

Unless there was a deep-seated enmity or hatred, such resentment could not linger so intensely.

This was a supernatural instance where it was highly possible for someone to become a ghost after death. If Song Yu truly became a ghost, he would probably kill the teenager first.

...What a pity.

Just as everyone’s thoughts were wandering, an unexpected announcement from the game system echoed in the minds of the players present.

[Attention, players. Instance “First High School” has been upgraded to an advanced instance.]

Upon hearing the system’s announcement, the players were immediately stunned.

Instance “First High School” had been upgraded to...

An advanced instance???

Their instance seemed to be called... First High School...

Haha... Haha... Impossible...

Several players felt a pang of unease, disregarding everything else and quickly retrieving their phones to check the instance information page. The four large characters “First High School” at the top almost stabbed their eyes.

The name of an instance was like a unique identifier, rarely having the same name as another instance. At least until now, they had never heard of instances having the same name.

Although they were reluctant to believe it, First High School was indeed the instance they were currently in.

Despair and fear surged in the hearts of the players.

Ruan Qing also heard the announcement from the game system, but he had no time to pay attention to it. Tears fell from his eyes as he simply wanted to escape from the chilling sensation.

If the chilling sensation from earlier only lingered around his legs, it now seemed to invade his pants, chilling him to the core.

That chilling and sticky sensation clung to his feet, like maggots gnawing at his bones, unable to struggle or break free.

Moreover, despite wearing clothes and shoes, it felt as if he was naked, being toyed with by an invisible presence.

Ruan Qing tightly held the talisman in front of him, but it had no effect at all, even though... the monster in the mirror should be afraid of it.

But it had no effect now, as if the talisman only worked on the monster in the mirror and had no effect on other... entities.

Just as the chilling cold crawled up his legs, making its way from the soles of his feet to his calves, someone grabbed the back of Ruan Qing’s collar. In the blink of an eye, he was lifted up and fell into a warm embrace.

That warmth belonged to a human, and it dispelled the cold and eerie sensation, as if sunlight shining on him.

In this crazy game, it felt like the only warmth, making one unable to resist yearning for it, and it could warm the heart of a person to the point of tears.

After pulling Ruan Qing up, Su Zhiwei gently pressed his head against his own chest, and his voice, as gentle and soothing as the wind, reassured him, “It’s okay, don’t be afraid, Uncle is here.”

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have left you alone just now.”

Upon hearing these words, Ruan Qing was momentarily stunned. Instead of pushing Su Zhiwei away, he reached out and grabbed the fabric of Su Zhiwei’s clothes by his side.

His knuckles turned white as he held on tightly, and in the process, he wrinkled Su Zhiwei’s clothes, making them look slightly disheveled.

Naturally, Su Zhiwei could feel it. He could even feel the person in his arms trembling slightly, clearly still quite frightened.

After all, no matter how arrogant and unruly the teenager might be, he was ultimately someone who had been pampered by his family and never experienced the storms of life.

Although the shattered appearance of the teenager caught everyone’s attention and even tempted them to play with him more recklessly, Su Zhiwei was not displeased with the teenager’s demeanor.

It was because of another man.

A hint of ruthlessness flashed in Su Zhiwei’s eyes, but his expression and tone remained unchanged, as he continued to gently and patiently comfort the frightened person. “It’s okay, I’m here, and nothing can hurt you.”

Su Zhiwei’s voice was gentle and steady, as if filled with strength and a sense of security, making it impossible not to believe his words.

“Qingqing, be a good boy and get some sleep. Everything will be fine when you wake up.” As Su Zhiwei spoke, he gently stroked Ruan Qing’s back, his tender voice carrying a kind of enchantment.

After his words fell, Ruan Qing immediately went limp, falling into his embrace as if he had really fallen asleep.

Su Zhiwei caught Ruan Qing and then gently lifted him up, holding him horizontally. Looking down from a higher position, he glanced at the twisted corpse on the ground before turning around and leaving while carrying the teenager.

Several players witnessed this but didn’t say anything, allowing Su Zhiwei to take the person away.

Meanwhile, Mo Ran, who had just arrived, stared fixedly at Su Zhiwei’s figure. It was like a sinister snake, glaring at its prey, sending shivers down one’s spine involuntarily.

Xiao Shiyi, who arrived with Mo Ran, naturally also saw this scene. The image of the two embracing was extremely conspicuous. It didn’t look like an uncle and nephew, but more like... a couple in love.

Moreover, the teenager’s obedient and dependent appearance was something he had never shown, even to his parents.

It was as if Su Zhiwei was his entire world, absurdly so.

Xiao Shiyi glanced at the malicious-looking Mo Ran, pushed his glasses, and casually said, “I agree to your proposal.”

Mo Ran tilted his head and looked at Xiao Shiyi, revealing a chilling smile. “Classmate Xiao, let’s cooperate.”

“Cooperate happily.”

Su Zhiwei carried Ruan Qing back to the office.

There was a bedroom inside the principal’s office where Su Zhiwei would occasionally rest.

Su Zhiwei put Ruan Qing on the bed and then turned to look at a dark corner. His voice couldn’t contain the suppressed anger. “Who told you to kill Song Yu?”

In the dark corner, black mist spread and slowly formed a humanoid black shadow.

Twisted, eerie, and oppressively overwhelming.

A cold and powerful aura spread from the air, making people tremble involuntarily, accompanied by a terrifying sense of danger.

It also sent chills down one’s spine.

The black shadow seemed to be unfamiliar with its form. The body composed of black mist occasionally dissipated, only to reassemble in the next second. But it appeared like a silhouette drawn by a kindergarten child, twisted to the point of being unrecognizable.

Yet, it seemed determined to take on a human form, persistently attempting to condense into the shape of a person. Gathering and dispersing repeatedly.

Finally, it barely took on a shadow-like appearance. If not observed closely, one might mistake it for an ordinary shadow.

After hearing Su Zhiwei’s words, the shadow finally stopped tormenting itself. It opened its mouth but couldn’t utter a single word, not even a sound.

As it opened its mouth, a large hole appeared in the middle of the black mist, revealing the wall behind it. The shadow distorted again, sending shivers down one’s spine.

The shadow picked up a cellphone, and Su Zhiwei’s ringtone instantly rang. However, this time, Su Zhiwei didn’t answer.

He fiercely threw the phone at the shadow, but it seemed the shadow was not corporeal. The phone went straight through the shadow and smashed into the wall behind it, shattering into pieces upon impact.

The shadow opened its mouth again, but still couldn’t produce any sound. In the next moment, the shadow slowly dissipated, and the black mist retreated back to the dark corner, as if it had passed through the wall, disappearing without a trace.

Meanwhile, Su Zhiwei sat on the sofa opposite the bed, took out a cigarette from his pocket, and lit it expressionlessly. Leaning back against the sofa, he placed his long legs on the table in front of the sofa. He tossed the cigarette pack onto the table and took a deep drag, exhaling a cloud of smoke.

The smoke filled the room, making it difficult to see Su Zhiwei’s face clearly, but it was evident that he was angry.

The person on the bed seemed to dislike the smell of smoke, as his delicate eyebrows furrowed. Seeing this, Su Zhiwei paused, then extinguished the cigarette and stood up to open the window, letting the smoke dissipate.

He then sprayed a faint perfume in the room before returning to the sofa, lost in thought.

After an unknown period of time, the bedroom door was forcefully pushed open, and a distorted figure wearing the uniform of the First High School appeared at the doorway. However, this time it was a human, yet not quite human.

The male student seemed to be unaccustomed to his body, walking crookedly and even having misaligned feet, as if he hadn’t walked in a long time. “B... Brother... I have... a body now...”

The male student’s face wore a strange smile, seemingly very happy. However, his voice was hoarse and unpleasant, and his speech was awkward, as if he hadn’t spoken in a long time.

Combined with his excited tone, it created an eerie and terrifying atmosphere in the quiet room.
