Chapter 82.2: Xishan Residential Area (2)

August 07, 2023 by Wyrd

The man obediently extended his hand, passing it over to the young man, handing it to him.

After the young man touched the man’s hand, he gently held it and then began to explore it with his fingers.

The touch was incredibly light, as if a feather was gently brushing against the palm of his hand, afraid of hurting the man.

The young man’s hand was soft, and his fingertips grazed the man’s hand, creating a tingling sensation.

Furthermore, the young man’s hand wasn’t large; the man could easily hold it in his hand. However, the man just kept his hand stiffly extended, allowing the young man to explore gently.

Because the wound was freshly cut, the man had used considerable force with the knife. The wound was naturally deep and still bleeding. When the young man touched the blood, he immediately pulled his hand back, afraid of accidentally touching the man’s wound.

But after retracting for a moment, he continued to explore. The touch was even lighter now, and even if he touched the man’s wound, it didn’t cause any pain.

The man looked down at the hand in his palm, and the bloodstains dyed the young man’s fair fingers a deep shade of red, making them even more beautiful.

It made one want to hold them in their mouth and gently lick away the bloodstains.

The young man seemed to sense the severity of the wound. His eyes turned red, and a layer of moisture appeared in his misty gaze, as if he was about to cry, “Why are you so careless!?”

The young man’s soft voice carried blame and worry, softening the man’s heart a bit.

It also made him want to hug him, soothe him, and tell him not to be sad.

The man looked at the young man, whose eyes were brimming with tears and seemed lifeless, causing his hand to become even stiffer.

After the young man finished speaking, he released the man’s hand and walked towards the house, searching with urgency. It seemed he wanted to find a medical kit to help bandage the man’s wound.

The man at the door lowered his gaze, looking at his own hand with deep and profound eyes, giving it a hesitant squeeze.

As if the chilly touch of the young man’s fingers still lingered on it, a nameless emotion surged softly from the depths of his heart.

His heart was tingling, beating incessantly like a drum, creating a bothersome yet exhilarating feeling. This rush of unfamiliar emotions was overwhelming.

The man didn’t know what this emotion was, nor had he ever experienced it before. However, he knew, somehow… he wanted a wife, too.

Someone like… the young man.

Gentle and obedient, making people’s hearts melt upon seeing him.

The man glanced at the male owner lying on the ground with his eyes still open. Then he happily picked up the bag of groceries outside and closed the door.

With an air of natural entitlement, as if he was the owner of the house.

On the other hand, Ruan Qing’s expression was filled with worry as he urgently reached for the medical kit inside the house.

But in reality, his inner state was far from calm, even his mental state was highly tense.

Although the man’s voice and demeanor seemed ordinary, even his voice was identical to the original owner’s husband, he was definitely not the original owner’s husband.

Not to mention his demeanor. The strong smell of blood alone was enough to explain everything.

The faint bloodstains on his hands couldn’t conceal the truth.

The intense smell of blood was coming from beside the table, and there might be... the original owner’s husband’s body lying there.

Ruan Qing’s heart sank, but he didn’t dare show any sign of it.

Because if he revealed anything, death would undoubtedly await him.

The man would definitely kill him.

Ruan Qing had considered himself the first target, after all, he was the first to be marked for death, a special pawn giving players clues to follow.

But he never expected an immediate open-door attack, running into the murderer as soon as he opened the door.

If he hadn’t pretended not to notice anything, he might have been dragged into the house and killed.

Then, perhaps the next day, or the day after, there would be a bizarre incident of a couple being murdered at home in the Xishan Residential Area.

Subsequently, players would be alerted to come and search for clues, while striving to survive and find the murderer.

However, Ruan Qing didn’t want to be the clue in the form of a corpse.

Having the original owner’s husband alone was already sufficient; there’s no need for him to die too.

Ruan Qing only prayed that once the man discovered he’s blind, he would leave quickly.

After all, even as a blind person, he pretended not to notice that his husband had died, so he naturally wouldn’t expose his identity.

Furthermore, he even left the door open, entered the living room to get the medicine kit; he could completely take advantage of this opportunity to leave directly.

However, Ruan Qing was disappointed.

The man didn’t leave; he even picked up a plastic bag with vegetables at the door and closed it.

The sound of the door closing wasn’t very loud, but it caused Ruan Qing’s heart to sink directly to the bottom of a valley.

Did the man not believe that he hadn’t noticed anything?

Or... had the man already intended to kill him?

Although his heart sank, and he was tensed up, Ruan Qing didn’t show any difference, as if he was a caring ‘wife’. He felt his way towards the medicine kit.

The medicine kit was placed next to the dining room cabinet.

After feeling around twice, Ruan Qing found it. He took down the medicine kit and prepared to walk to the side of the sofa.

However, the sofa was next to the table, and there was a corpse next to the table, and even quite a few fruits scattered around.

The man had been paying attention to Ruan Qing’s situation, and seeing this, he immediately walked to the table, placed the bag on it, and took off his hat, placing it on the table.

Then, he naturally held Ruan Qing’s hand, accurately avoiding the obstacles on the ground, and led him to the sofa.

After Ruan Qing sat down, he smiled towards the man’s direction, seemingly thanking him, and perhaps just genuinely wanting to smile.

The man was once again stunned; the young man’s smile was faint, but pure and clean, like the blooming of myriad flowers after the snow melted, so dazzling that it seemed to dim the entire world slightly, making people unconsciously amazed and enchanted.

Following Ruan Qing’s gesture, the man obediently sat next to Ruan Qing and stretched out his injured hand.

The two were very close, close enough that the man could clearly smell the faint fragrance on the young man.

It was like the scent of pear blossoms, somewhat similar to the fragrance of orchids, giving a feeling of a secluded valley orchid.

Clean and clear, as if it could cleanse all the impurities from the depths of one’s heart, yet also capable of arousing desires hidden in the dark corners of the heart.

The man didn’t question how a blind person could administer medication to someone. He stared straight at the exquisite young man in front of him.

The young man’s delicate fairness bordered on transparency. He probably realized he couldn’t see. His misty eyes widened, his face showing a hint of confusion and helplessness. However, he could only press his lips together, holding onto a medical kit with a touch of resentment.

“You... you do it yourself.” Ruan Qing pursed his lips, handing the medical kit to the man. He sat sadly on the sofa, seeming to feel utterly useless.

The man had never comforted anyone before, but as he looked at Ruan Qing, he hesitated and said, “I’m not in pain, don’t worry.”

“Can you please be less careless next time? You’re always like this.” Ruan Qing’s voice was filled with discomfort. His long eyelashes quivered slightly, his damp eyes brimming with a sense of grievance and distress.

“And now I’m blind. I can’t help with anything; I’ll only make things chaotic.”

Ruan Qing lowered his gaze, wanting to show the other that he hadn’t noticed anything unusual.

It was as if he mistook the perpetrator for his husband, completely unaware that his husband was already dead.

There was no need to expose the identity of the culprit.

The culprit could leave without any worries.

...There really was no need to kill the innocent and pitiful blind man.

Ruan Qing felt a numbness in his scalp. With this hellishly difficult starting point, who could survive apart from players with such high combat power that they could counter-kill the culprit?

No, even if the combat power was strong, it was uncertain. After all, he was blind.

Not to mention he was just a scrub in combat. Even if he wasn’t blind, he wouldn’t be able to counter-kill.

If he had known the culprit was there, he wouldn’t have returned now, even if it meant breaking the character.

In the face of overwhelming strength, strategy would require time to deploy. However, by directly confronting the culprit upon arrival, it was simply giving oneself away.

The expression on Ruan Qing’s face became even more pitiful, completely embodying the original owner’s character, not revealing any difference.

This was the first time someone had cared for the man. After listening to Ruan Qing’s words, his heart, which was pounding intensely, suppressed the beating, and he lowered his voice hoarsely, “I’m sorry, it won’t happen next time.”

“Am I really useless?” Ruan Qing’s voice contained a hint of choking. Tears hung on his long eyelashes, as if they were about to fall in the next second, looking pitiful.

However, Ruan Qing stubbornly held back his tears, refusing to let them fall, which made people feel even more sorry for him.

The man naturally took hold of Ruan Qing’s hand and pulled him into his embrace, as if Ruan Qing was truly his wife.

With his other uninjured hand, the man wiped away the tears at the corner of Ruan Qing’s eyes, holding him in his arms. “Why would you think that? You are my wife, and I will never consider you a burden.”

“Without you by my side, my life would be meaningless.”

The man had never spoken sweet words before, but at this moment, he spoke very fluently, as if he had said them a thousand times before.

Because there was no need to think, no need to fabricate; his thoughts automatically emerged from his heart.

As if the young man in his arms was truly his wife.

Now the man deeply understood why the male owner on the ground had turned against his own parents for the sake of this weak wife.

If it were him, he could do the same.

In the man’s envisioned future, he had never planned for a family, nor had he ever thought about having a wife.

But now, the pounding heart told him how pleasant it was to have a wife.

That pleasure was incomparable, no matter how many people he killed or how much stronger he became.

After hearing the man’s words, Ruan Qing froze, his expression also freezing on his face, and a sense of unease rose in his heart.

What did he mean by that?

Ruan Qing: “Σ(°△°|||)︴“

He couldn’t possibly be thinking... of pretending to be his husband, right?

Haha... Hahaha... That’s impossible, right?

However, the truth was evidently just as Ruan Qing had thought. The man indeed wanted to pretend to be his husband.

“Do not overthink it.” The man gently patted Ruan Qing’s back. His voice was becoming more and more similar to the male owner’s voice, to the point where it was almost impossible to distinguish any difference.

“With you by my side, I am the happiest.”

Ruan Qing: “...”

Had he overplayed the role of a devoted wife just now?

Ruan Qing’s expression froze, but luckily the man was holding him and couldn’t see his expression.

Ruan Qing lowered his gaze, concealing the emotions in his eyes, lost in thought.

The original owner and his husband had just moved in; hardly anyone knew them.

The original owner was an orphan. Even if he married a man, no one cared about him. But his husband’s family did care, and they did not approve of him marrying another man.

The original owner’s husband had a falling out with his parents and moved into Xishan Residential Area with the original owner. To make the original owner more comfortable, he even adopted a child.

The three of them were like a happy family of three.

They also became the prime target for the murderer.

Ruan Qing could understand why the murderer targeted the original owner’s family of three, but he couldn’t comprehend why the murderer would impersonate his husband.

Did the murderer want to test if he had discovered the truth? Or did Ruan Qing’s presence somehow encourage the murderer to form a family?

Or maybe the murderer had some ulterior motive for assuming the identity of his husband?

After all, there was no better place for whatever his purpose was in the Xishan Residential Area.

Regardless of the man’s intentions, Ruan Qing was now in a difficult situation.

If he discovered the murderer’s identity, he would likely end up accompanying the original owner’s husband in the afterlife.

Without a doubt, if he exposed the murderer, the murderer would surely kill him.

But if Ruan Qing didn’t uncover the murderer’s identity, it was evident that the murderer intended to continue impersonating his husband. He couldn’t show any signs of suspicion; he had to convincingly play the role of a wife.

He also had to be cautious at all times, to not be killed by the man.

However, this was a matter of whether he would die now or potentially in the future.
