Ding!

[Dungeon Quest: Go to orphanage completed.]

▸Reward: Acquiring 3,000,000 coins.

I got off the carriage with my whole body covered in a veil and a black dress.

“Where is Damian?”

The director led me to Damian’s room without even having time to say hello. There, Damian was sleeping with a pale face.

“…”

When I saw Damian, who was sick, my heart became extremely weak. How did he break his arm? Why did something that should have ended with a fever become this big?

“The doctor said if he doesn’t get proper treatment at a big hospital, he will have permanent problems with his arm.”

The director continued, looking at my face. “However, we’re contacting Madam because paying it with the orphanage funds is difficult.”

“I will pay for Damian’s hospital bills in full, so move him immediately.”

“I understand.”

When the director left to arrange a large carriage to carry Damian, only me and Damian remained in the room.

Then Damian opened his eyes dimly. He looked at me and crumpled his brow. “Madam Raven…?”

Damian, who was said to be the tallest boy in the class, was still a young boy. His fluffy face was exhausted, and his big eyes were filled with water. He shed tears and desperately held on to me with his weak hands.

“Please take me with you. I’ll be nice. I will never do anything bad, Madam. Please don’t go. I don’t want to be alone…”

It was an extremely weak plea.

Feeling sorry that he was begging for attention and affection, I held Damian’s hand. Then I wiped his sweaty forehead and kissed it with my lips hidden by a veil. As I tried my best to reassure him and put him to sleep, Damian gradually sobbed softly and fell asleep.

Ding!

[The conditions for releasing the first stage memory seal have been achieved.]

{Damian}

Age: 15

Hope for the future: Becoming a detective at a criminal investigation agency.

Status: Dreaming of memory

Unsealed Memory Progress: ★☆☆☆☆

Just in time, the director came back.

“We have prepared a carriage to take Damian to the hospital. Would you like to come with me?”

I tried to answer but got choked up and closed my mouth for a moment. Before I knew it, the tears that flowed down my cheeks wet my lips and tasted salty. I was so moved by Damian’s tears that I just realized now that I had been crying along with him.

I knew this sadness. I knew these most miserable feelings very well, especially when you were sick. That made me suddenly regret it. No matter how much the constellations requested, I should have just sent money and not gone to see Damian. Something about Damian made my heart infinitely weaker when I met him in person.

Get yourself together. They’re deliberately trying to provoke sympathy to catch the player off guard. You know it all, but you’re going to fall for it?

I woke up from my seat after biting my lips hard enough that I could taste blood. “I will send Allen instead. Allen, send Damian to a single room and get him the most skilled doctor.”

“I understand, Master.”

* * *

Damian is an orphan. But his parents existed in his dream. His father is a man named Duke Kapento, and his mother is a commoner who runs a restaurant. Duke Kapento loved his beautiful mother, only until she became sick and lost her natural beauty. Her mother despaired from the abandoned love and quickly grew thin.

Damian went to the Kapento Residence, recalling the memories of his caring father.

“My mother is sick. Help me.”

What came back was a beating.

“How dare you say that here!”

The Kapento family looked at him like an insect. The person called father didn’t even show his nose.

Damian was devastated. His mother was dying, but there was nothing he could do. Still, he wasn’t in a completely hopeless situation. He was an outstanding wizard, and someone who wanted to buy his talent appeared.

“I will take care of your mother. Also, I’ll help you with your revenge. Instead, you must hand over your talents to me. Would you like to become a member of ‘Stigmata’?”

Stigmata is a radical group dedicated to guiding the corrupted human world, blinded by their own interests, back onto the right path even amidst the demon’s invasion.

Damian willingly joined hands with them.

* * *

Damian slowly woke up from his dream and lifted his eyelids.

Where am I? He looked around and soon realized he was in a hospital. He stared into space blankly for a while.

It was a very strange dream. The dream was too vivid to be dismissed as just a dream. It was as if he had experienced it in the past. Perhaps that is why, even after waking up from his dream, the sticky anger still lingered in his heart. He’s being eaten away by the sinister hatred of the noble and his own weakness.

“Are you awake?”

Madam Raven’s servant came into the hospital room.

Damian skillfully put on a pitiful child’s expression. “Yes. How long have I been in the hospital?”

“Today is the third day.”

“I see… Where is Madam? I’d like to say hello.”

“She’s not here.”

He asked just in case, but she really wasn’t there. Damian looked depressed for a moment and asked the servant. “You’re Allen, right?”

“That’s right.”

It was the name of the person who signed his sponsorship. That probably means this man is the madam’s closest person.

Damian said politely. “Could you please help me up? It’s hard for me to sit down.”

“Alright.”

Allen politely supported himself. At that moment, Damian cast a hypnotized spell along with a tracking spell on Allen.

“What is madam’s name?”

“Do you need anything else?”

But Allen spoke in a different tone as if he didn’t recognize his question.

“I asked what your master’s name was.”

Allen looked at him quietly as if he hadn’t heard anything. His eyes felt as if they were empty, and Damian felt a strange sense of discomfort. He felt like he was witnessing something non-human imitating a human. But is that possible?

Damian felt an uneasy sense of incompatibility. Something was wrong. Not only him but this world too. That made him frown, then shook his head.

“Why am I like this…”

How can I think this is not a reality? What kind of weird thought have I been thinking?

Allen opened his mouth. “If you don’t need anything, I’ll leave.”

Damian stared at his back and looked down at his broken arm with a cold look. “Is this not enough?”

He even broke his arm to summon Madam Raven.

It’s annoying.

Still, it wasn’t that there was no harvest at all. The madam pitied him. Although her face couldn’t be seen because it was covered by a veil, her tears were seen falling down.

At that time, Damian almost grabbed the veil and ripped it off without realizing it. He was curious about that woman’s eyes. He almost made a mistake just for that reason.

Why did I feel that urge?

Madam Raven was certainly a wizard. So, although she had a special meaning to him, he had no interest in humans themselves. But at that moment, he was just curious about Madam Raven’s face. The color of her eyes shed tears.

He had no idea that once his curiosity had bloomed, it would never go away. Like a throbbing pain, it continued to linger inside, causing discomfort.

It’s natural to be curious since she’s hiding her identity.

There was only one way to relieve this feeling of frustration. That was meeting Madam Raven in person. There was nothing else but that.

Damian rolled up his blanket and got out of bed. Somehow, his arm was in better shape than he thought. He wondered if he could improve this much so quickly when he had only received proper treatment, but the important thing now was to find Madam Raven. In Damian’s mind, nothing else mattered except that woman.

How should I find her? Should I buy information from the underworld?

However, he was an ordinary orphan with no power or money. There was only one way for him to have power. It was to become a member of the underworld using his magical power.

Creek. When he made up his mind to open the door, he froze in shock. Damian happened to come face to face with Madam Raven, who was trying to enter his room.

“…Greetings, Madam.”

He never thought she’d come to see him. This was completely unexpected. Perhaps because he was startled, his heart was pounding rapidly. The madam was still hiding her face with a veil.

“Hi, Damian.”

For the first time, he heard the madam’s voice. It was a soft and calm voice. And she sounded softer than he thought.

When he was momentarily enchanted by a beautiful voice that he wanted to keep hearing.

“Let’s go home.”

Madam Raven said something strange.

“Home?”

“My house. And this is where you will stay from now on.”

Damian asked with an innocent face. “Did you adopt me?”

A feeling of discomfort welled up within him. He thought this woman also decided to adopt him as if she wanted to buy him as a toy after seeing his appearance under the disguise of becoming a family. When she was annoyed, she would be no different from any other noble who gave up on him.

Just as his sticky anger rose from deep disappointment, Madam Raven spoke.

“I’m your teacher, not your parent.”

“…Teacher?”

“Yes. A teacher who will teach you what you so desperately wanted.”

Damian realized it was about magic. But what’s wrong with this situation? How come things are going the way he wants to as if it is tailored to his tastes?

Madam Raven acted as if she knew what he wanted. It felt like she knew everything.

The madam held out her hand. “Let’s go.”

Damian followed Madam Raven to her house as if being possessed.
