He truly felt pain every passing second as he limped over to the fox's belongings. Rummaging through its back he quickly found a potion that he drank with glee. As soon as he did he felt something within him quench, a large portion of his hatred was now gone. Dante took a deep breath and rummaged more. Even though he felt calmer due to the health potion, he still swore to kill that person. It wasn't the elf, it wasn't the stupid demons he had to run from, no. It was that person. Right. He remembered.

It was vivid, imprinted onto his mind to never forget. It felt almost as if it was yesterday, or well, it was yesterday. A cold night. He sat under the shadow of the cave, away from the fire trying to ignore the rambles from the crazed demons. He had felt pain like never before at that time, he was missing his fingernails, he was sure he had a few bones removed, his skin had been peeled multiple times, but no matter how many times he confessed they just didn’t buy it.

They didn’t fucking buy it. Dante knew of his delusions, but the demons were truly insane. Everything under the very system was fucking insane. He knew it, he had seen it. The flames crackled, and under the stillness of the night The System spoke.

The stars have made their judgment.

As soon as he read teleportation he agreed to the prompt. He didn’t need to think, he needed out. The first thing that happened after the flash and the darkness was the odd warmth of the ground, it felt wet as if he was laying on shallow water. His surroundings rattled as if he was standing in a den of insects, among the chatter a voice spoke.

“Welcome, Championnnn.” It was hard to understand but he understood. “I will cut to the chase. Join my sideee.”

Dante finally managed to see as a small red light floated around. And then he saw a cockroach. It was oversized and ugly, its antennae twitched and its mandibles clicked after its words. But its level. It left no room for doubt.

[Brood, Lord of Blood. Lvl. 394]

As the light passed by the room he saw skulls, and he recoiled. Whenever he moved he felt the odd viscosity of the liquid, and he knew it wasn’t water. His mind paused as the scent of blood flooded his nostrils, he suddenly felt sickly to the core.

“I see you’re refusinggg.” Its mandibles moved. “No worriesss, there is a Dead Zone here.”

Dead Zone? During that pause, he heard the blood around him move, and with the sound of metal clicking, blood chains wrapped around his neck and and limbs, slamming him onto the ground. He gagged as blood went into his ears and nose, he struggled to keep it at bay and constantly coughed.

“System, oh System, I see you protecttt,” It mused. “No worriesss, out of your reach you cannot detect!” It exclaimed as it shrieked with pain.

The chains dragged, and suspended dante in mid air. The cockroach twitched and the chains moved him a bit more, and eventually, he sat still in the air. His limbs felt as if they were going to be torn, but thankfully he had saved some attribute points he just had to put them into Vigor.

He opened his status— there was nothing.

“Out of reach.” its limbs moved haphazardly. “Dead Zones are just magnificent. Now, let us talk Championnn.”

“I appreciate your help,” Dante said between coughs. “Really, I am willing to do anything no need for—” The chains rattled. “These.”

“You misunderstand Humannn,” It hissed. “This is not a mutual partnership. You’re my slave.”

Dante felt his heart skip.

“I need a minionnn. One to conquer, I have already done my best to gather the right thingsss, you seee?” It screeched as it produced a vial. It clearly shone magically, but Dante couldn’t inspect it or make sense of it. “Unless you agree to be an obedient slave we are going to be stuck here for all of eternity.”

He bit his tongue. He had to be joking, right?

That was the start of his nightmare. He experienced pain like never before. He would squirm and shout until his vocal cords died.He was force fed potions into his bloodstream, but no matter what he couldn’t move—he was suspended on the same spot midair as his insides were carved, eaten by bugs or simply slowly poked to death.

He couldn’t remember how many times he died and how many times he was forcefully resurrected. And all the cockroach would do is mutter things like, interesting, nice, didn’t expect that. His hatred grew more and more for the stupid thing. He didn’t deserve this. No one did. He was miserable, he felt hollow. The pain turned into nothing more than annoying buzz across his body, at some point he simply thought his brain had stopped functioning.

And those times he was passed out he would be jolted awake before being choked on a potion. It hurt. Existing was painful.

He didn’t know how long passed. But eventually he grew to hate things, he hated the cockroach before him, it had to die. It simply had to. Dante let go of all his grudges, and finally. As he did, the chains let him go and he felt somewhat alive again.

The cockroach pushed a vial towards him. “Accept to be my slave.”

[B ranked Prophecy: Origin Blood.

“Perfectionnnnn,” — Brood.]

Dante scoffed.

“Fuck you.”
