The Final Battleground

nock Knock-

“Sir, breakfast.”

Radan woke up to the sound of the knocking.

As soon as he opened his eyes, the first thing he did was raise his hand to check the blindfold.

“Are you awake?”

“Did you sleep well?”

Ozdin and Vendel’s voices confirmed where he was now.

Radan nodded.

“Yes.”

“That’s good.”

Ozdin’s hand ruffled Radan’s hair. He flinched his head away. This was an inevitable reaction.

Up until now, Ozdin has been an unfamiliar, peculiar, but gracious person.

Ever since he kissed him, Radan’s mind had been complicated.

He went from a strange gracious person to a stranger he had gratitude towards.

The feeling of someone else’s lips upon his lips was unfamiliar, yet familiar.

When the kiss began, Radan knew what it should feel like to be kissed, and what sensations followed.

He knew that the heat of excitement should empty his head and he also knew that the sense of needing to push it away should be replaced by a desire to be filled by that pleasure even more.

But Ozdin’s kiss wasn’t like that.

Consequently, he found out that there is someone else out there…

And that Ozdin was not that person.

Radan again realized the weight of Ozdin’s emotions. He won’t be able to accept Ozdin’s kisses.

Then what should he do about the future?

“Don’t shy away.”

“……?”

Suddenly, Ozdin’s voice distracted him from his thoughts.

Ozdin pulled Radan, who flinched, and touched his hair as much as he pleased.

“Don’t say that I can’t do this much. Then I’ll feel very upset.”

“I’m,”

Ozdin turned around without listening to Radan.

“There, I’ll open the door, leave it open.”

At that Vendel shook his head. It was a gesture of caution.

“Can I open it? I’ve already bought the food for our breakfast and the Innkeeper already knows this because I borrowed workmen’s clothes from him.”

Ozdin opened the door without waiting for a reply.

“Alright, so listen to me……!”

The Innkeeper who had brought breakfast was holding out a tray. On the tray was a steaming pigeon dish.

“Good work.”

Ozdin handed him a heavy purse. The Innkeeper bowed and turned around.

“Excuse me, My Lord?”

At that moment Vendel’s vigilance became futile.

Ozdin took the tray to the table that was in the middle of the room and cut the whole cooked pigeon in half.

“Oh, my…..”

Inside the pigeon’s stomach was a small leather pouch.

Vendel muttered with a puzzled face.

“Is that a pigeon that Decker caught? Oh really, why make people worry for nothing instead of just saying that?”

Ozdin opened the leather pouch.

Zorg, who had been hovering between Ozdin’s legs for a while got excited and snatched the pigeon dish.

Inside the leather pouch was a piece of paper with small writing on it. Using pigeon dishes to secretly transmit information was a method used by the Getts.

Decker was the name of the attendant whom Ozdin had ordered to ascertain the whereabouts of the Prophet Hadir.

“What does it say, My Lord? Did he find the prophet?”

“Not yet.”

Vendel groused.

“Not yet. Aren’t these guys being indolent? Well if we’re still here in Attica, why can’t we find him?”

“I think the war will be over soon. The Leshak Army is moving to the Aryan Plain, and in fact, it will be the last battle of this war.”

“Oh? The Aryan Plains? Isn’t Leshak’s army in the capital of Kemened right now? Since Duke Flambard has surrendered unconditionally, Leshard’s Army should not be in a hurry. There is no urgent reason to move on to Aryan,”

“The second Prince of Kemened is said to have joined hands with the Kingdom of Heder. It looks like King Heder will persuade the rest of the other countries to fight in the final battle.”

“Well…if the Kingdom of Heder loses, won’t the salt prices rise? Wouldn’t it be better to buy it in advance now?”

Ozdin wrinkled the small piece of paper while Vendel was doing his merchandising calculations.

“Whenever the final battle begins, that will be the best time to launch the ship.”

“Well…that’s right. With that kind of battle ahead, it’s going to be difficult to use a large number of troops for a search, so I’ll tell DeWynn to prepare the ship.

“Okay.”

Ozdin nodded.

He reached out and grabbed Radan’s chin. Before Radan could shake his head from the surprise, Ozdin quickly stretched out his hand.

It was as if he knew in advance that Radan was going to escape.

“We’re going to Amboia Radan.”

“…Yes.”

Radan spoke slowly, conscious of the fingers warming his chin.

When he woke up that morning, it seemed that Ozdin had changed.

His tone and smile were still light, but his gestures carried weight.

Now, if Radan had been able to see how Ozdin was looking at him, he would have been able to gauge the weight of that gesture.

– I like you, My Lord.

Those words never left Ozdin’s ears.

Ozdin’s crumpled paper contained not only the direction of the war but the exact person the First Prince of Ibeden was looking for.

It is said that the Crown Prince took a prostitute he had picked up from a brothel one day as a lover. That was very unusual for Leshak Caliph, who is called the monarch of chastity. His lover was a blind boy, and it is said that it is difficult to hide his beauty even when his face was half-covered with a blindfold.

Even now as Leshak moves his Guardian Knights, who should be standing on a battlefield, the person he is looking for, is a boy with dark hair.

He is nineteen years old, and although he had passed the age of majority, he was small and slender and at first glance, he looked like a boy. It is also said that he would have had a beautiful face that is difficult to overlook.

The conclusion was that Leshak Caliph was looking for the lover who had escaped.

Ozdin didn’t know why, but Radan was running away.

It was unclear at this time whether Radan had sincerely lost his memory, but he seemed determined to run away.

It meant that Radan had a reason to run away from Leshak Caliph.

It was as though Leshak Caliph had a clear reason to seek Radan.

What the hell was it?

Ozdin stared at Radan’s face and muttered to himself.

He’s looking for you, and you like him, so why are you running away?

“Lord……Sir? By the way, what will you do if the Prophet Hadir’s whereabouts aren’t found by that date?”

As Ozdin was holding Radan with an unfamiliar expression on his face, Vendel cautiously intervened.

“… …”

But what Ozdin wanted to know the most was his own heart.

Maybe I should send you to the Crown Prince of the Empire.

I don’t know what happened between the two of you, but it doesn’t seem like he’s looking for you to hang from the gallows.

Besides, you like him.

Nevertheless, Ozdin did not want to let Radan go.

Ozdin was more impressed by the prophetic words than Vendel was.

Grossly lucky from birth, he was never moved by anything.

Ozdin Gett’s life was overdone with affluence to the point of excess. However, there were also bad points because there was nothing lacking.

It was emotionally dull.

He didn’t understand the feeling of wanting something. It was a feeling that could only be experienced indirectly through other people or books.

Ozdin Gett, the richest man in the world, lived with the desert in his heart.

The more wealth he had, the more women he met, the drier his heart became. The dryness was getting worse and worse.

Hadir’s prophecy was like his last hope.

– You will meet a very important person, important enough to risk your life for.

Vendel snorted.

– Is there anyone who could be more important to the Lord than his own life? It’s nonsense. Aren’t you the one who thinks that people can be bought with money?

Of course, it was.

Even after hearing the prophecy, nothing changed.

But there was hope that it might change.

If he was someone who is truly destined by fate, then that would be different.

This dryness, the heart-wrenching numbness, would disappear.

The world, which was always the same and boring, might be completely different.

The moment he met Radan, he was sure of his destiny.

For the first time in his life, he felt longing and desire. His world had changed.

This feeling of wanting something was growing like a magic bean every day.

“There, my Lord. If you keep doing that…… won’t Radan be uncomfortable? Just let him go…….”

So Ozdin couldn’t give up.

I won’t let go.

Ozdin quickly pulled away from Radan, leaving a brief intense kiss on his forehead.

“Then there is nothing that can be done. Getting on a boat is the priority. You can find out the Prophet Hadir’s whereabouts later. We can summon him to Amboia.”

Vendel nodded.

“Oh yes, you’re right. That’s right. You have made the right decision.”

As he spoke, Ozdin’s eyes did not leave Radan. Radan was rubbing his kiss-stained forehead with an awkward gesture.

You have already forgotten him, Radan.

His thoughts continued.

Or maybe it’s a resolution you prepared.

He’s your past. Your love for him is also buried in the past. So he’s nothing anymore.

Ozdin managed to look away.

“Send a message to DeWynn. Watch the Imperial Army’s movements, and tell them to prepare the ship.”

“Okay, my Lord.”

However, Ozdin’s fate did not go as he expected.

Leshak’s forces, who were scheduled to fight their final battle on the Aryan Plains, were now turning and hurriedly heading to the city of Attica.

A single line of news from the pigeon sent by Veroz moved Leshak.

– Attica: The Unknown Assassin; Pursuit failed. Reinforcement needed.

He didn’t even need a single line.

One word, Radan, would have been enough.

“I’m sorry, but that is out of the question.”

Decker cut him off flatly.

He was an attendant from Amboia.

Even as an attendant as well, his role was different from that of Vendel. Vendel took care of Ozdin’s personal affairs, including accounting, while Decker did other things.

It was Decker’s job to ascertain the whereabouts of the Prophet Hadir and to find a way to escape.

Instead of sending pigeons today, he appeared in the Inn room where the party was hiding. The situation was different from yesterday.

“It looks like the Imperial Army has sniffed it out. At first, the search seemed to be expanding to the surrounding cities as the Lord had intended, but now it has returned to the city of Attica. We are closely monitoring everything around the walls.”

Decker failed to send DeWynn a message.

DeWynn was the remaining attendant at Port of Fabion. The Port of Fabion was where most of the ships to and from Amboia anchored.

“The pigeon was almost caught the moment it flew. I did manage to save the messenger but don’t think you shouldn’t have high expectations. It will be hard to reach DeWynn on time.”

At Decker’s words, Vendel sighed.

“Then what do we do?”

“The first priority is to get out of here. If we get all the way to the Fabion the ship will be fine.”

“Can we get out?”

“We have to find a way.”

Decker cut them off abruptly.

“First of all, Budan and Reed, you will go out first. Don’t worry, our faces are unknown, and even in the worst case, my body is fit. The problem is that he is the one that should not get caught,”

Decker interrupted and turned to Radan.

Radan was holding Zorg with a pale face.

“That blindfold is the problem. Because it’s so conspicuous. Can you take it off?”

Ozdin asked,

“Is it possible to take it off?”

“You must disguise yourself.”

This is what Decker thought…

“Once you cover your eyes or say you can’t see, you will make them suspicious. So, that’s why we must think of a different way.”

“How?”

“We hire real blind people. If suspicion is cast onto them, won’t it be lightened on him?”

“Then what about Radan?”

Decker thought that Radan’s eyes were blind.

If his eyes were fine he wouldn’t have to go around wearing a blindfold, it was a natural way of thinking.

“It’s about hiding what you can’t see, disguising it. What if you were gravely ill?”

“Oh, that’s the way!”

Vendel jumped out of his seat.

Gimmal disease was a type of plague. Although the death rate was not very high compared to other plagues, it was considered the most severe of the plagues.

This is due to the appearance of horrible ugly blisters swelling up all over the face after contracting the disease.

“The disguise can be done with clay and glue. It’s actually simpler than wearing a woman’s dress. Gimmal disease usually spreads throughout the entire family, so it wouldn’t seem strange if you were all traveling together.”

“That would be a good way.”

Ozdin asked Radan.

“Did you hear me, Radan? You have to take it off.”

“… …”

Radan sighed and felt his blindfold. Zorg tapped Radan’s shoulder as though to reassure him.

Ozdin came over and grabbed the hand that was fumbling for the blindfold.

“It is dangerous to insist on this.”

“But……,”

Radan, who was about to say something, nodded immediately.

“…Yes.”

He couldn’t do it without finding a way.

His anxieties told him that he couldn’t put the whole party in danger.

“It will be fine.”

Ozdin lowered his head and pressed his lips to Radan’s cheek.

As always, the kiss was too quick and oddly heavy-handed for Radan to avoid.

“Don’t worry. I will take you to Amboia by any means.”

Ozdin wasn’t worried.

His fate was far stronger than he had thought.

The past was only the past. Just as he gained a new world through Radan, Radan would live in a world completely different from the past through him.

Ozdin grabbed Radan, who was uncomfortable and left a kiss on the other cheek.

It was like leaving a stamp as if trying to leave a mark of ownership.

“It will be fine.”

When that time comes, you will be able to forget words like ‘I like you, My Lord’.

It was alright.

Everything will be fine.

Decker said.

“Then I’ll go out and get some blind people for bait and some things for the disguise. Don’t worry, I’ll come up with a workaround just in case things don’t go well, my Lord.”

“Okay. I am waiting.”

“Yes, okay then.”

Decker was gone.

Now all that was left was to share a little patience.

When it was midnight, everything was ready.
