Chapter 12:

Consequences

Daniel:

Instead of in a treehouse, Constantine lives in an ordinary house. I feel slight disappointment at that. The police are coming over, or so Constantine told me. Apparently, it is not unheard of, for people to teleport humans to their planets.

It is just that, Constantine told me, that they are usually teleported to mana rich planets, which powered the process, unlike what we did. Using Earth’s mana, I mean.

When the police come, I peek through the blinds of the windows, and see that the officers are getting out of a car, that doesn’t have tires. It is hovering over the ground.

“Magic or science,” I ask Constantine.

“Science,” he tells me.

In the past couple of hours, I have asked him about many things. His toaster, which can make a toast in a second, without ever burning the bread. That is science. I always knew that it was possible.

His phone, on the other hands, is parts magic, and parts tech so high, it simply boggles the mind. The way it is possible to make the holograms, in models so realistic, is fantastic. The holograms are even in color.

When we talked through the forum, it looked to me, as if there is a perfectly normal screen on the other side. Yet, for him, it was a hologram. A sort of illusion magic, using electricity to be powered up, instead of mana.

There are a couple of differences between electricity and mana, but the two Naga officers are before the door, and Constantine is going to let them in any minute now. I look down at my feet, and wish that Constantine summoned me in here with my more comfortable shoes.

I am wearing my normal everyday wear. When my Naga friend teleported me to his home planet, it was about seven in the evening on Earth, and I just came back from work.

So, I am still in my white shirt, with my dress pants, and my leather shoes. I wonder if there will be anyone in here, that can make me shoes, or even pants. For when mine wear off.

Naga don’t wear them. I am surprised that they wear shirts, and blouses. I mean, in the art about Naga, they are usually bare chested. Apart from the women, who wear a bra.

I have caught a glimpse of Constantine’s neighbor, Norah, when she came to ask if he can take care of Beth, the little girl who wants to be called an acorn. She wore a dress shirt, with frills, and a belt around her middle. But the tail is uncovered. Which makes sense, since the tail would need a good friction so that the Naga can slither...

“Is this the human?” One of the officers, a Naga so big, he is only two heads from trying to hit the ceiling, asks. That brings me out of my musings.

“Daniel Samkiel. A pleasure to meet you,” I offer my hand, and he takes it.

“Ursula 590 will be your home, until your death. I am certain that your host will fill you in on our laws,” he says, and then pulls out something that looks like a camera, but it is too small to be one. I stare in interest, as he holds it to his eye. “Say cheese.”

I smile at the familiarity of it all, and do so. It is indeed a camera; it even has a flash. The photo that comes out of it is first like a hologram, and then is 3D printed. At least, I think it is 3D printed. It could also be something to do with magic, for all I know.

“Now, Mr. Angelid, why did you summon Mr. Samkiel to Ursula 590?” The other officer has a notepad in his hands, and a pen. Constantine looks at me, mouths a “sorry” and spills the beans.

“He can do magic,” he says, and I nod. Not seeing the problem with that.

“Is that so?” The officer writes that all down. Then, he takes out his phone, and types something in it. A form materializes soon after.

“How did that happen?” I ask, fascinated.

“I am confident that Mr. Angelid will give you all the information. As for your magical ability... why don’t you try using a spell,” the officer with the notepad says, and I focus on the vibrations beneath my skin.

They are weaker, somewhat. I frown, and try to feel them from outside my body. Soon, I can feel a mighty vibration right under my feet. I focus on it, and a sphere of light, bigger than what I am used to, appears in my hands.

The tall officer holds up his phone at me, and I can see a holographic replica of me, with the text that outs me for a human. I blink. Why would they need to check for that? It is not like I have a tail, is it?

“A human shaman,” the tall officer whispers, and looks at Constantine. “You did good, summoning him here. He would have brought forth a dark age for us all, had he stayed on Earth.”

“I wouldn’t have,” I protest because it is unfair for them to judge me by the standards of people who died 100,000 years ago.

“Maybe not intentionally, but had your government gotten a whiff of your power, you would have been used. You can take power from the core of a planet, like the mages of Atlantis, who sucked entire planets dry,” the officer with the pad tells me, and then looks at his partner.

“Well, our job here is done. Mr. Angelid, I hope you will get Mr. Samkiel’s papers in order, by the end of the day?” He asks Constantine, who nods.

“I will have them done by closing hours, yes,” Constantine says, and the two Naga police officers leave. I wonder why they didn’t take my fingerprints. I turn to Constantine, and ask him that.

“Why would they? They have your picture, and, with it, your soul trace,” Constantine tells me, and then slithers to his room. There is something that looks like a laptop on the desk, and I sit on the bed, in case he needs to ask me things.

My intuition is on point because he ends up asking me a question after a question. I can’t answer them all, and we have to do some tests, using his phone. You can even measure blood pressure, and blood sugar, with it. It is simply astonishing. When we are done, Constantine prints me an ID card, and smiles brightly at me.

“I think, I owe you a traditional Ursulian dinner,” he says, and I brighten up. Ah, space food. I wonder what it will taste like?
