Chapter 29:

Public outcry

Constantine:

On Ursula 590, they are disturbing the dead now. Jeffry, what is your opinion on...

I huff, and turn off the TV. It is all over the news, our little show. People are outraged, that we were going to mine the underworld.

Do the dead even need minerals?

I ask myself. Yes, I respect those that have been on the Cosmos before me, but I still think that we should make use of the resources. I mean, if we don’t mine some of the empty planets in the Cosmos, we can populate them with extinct species. The Gigantoboa comes to mind. Yes, it used to raze entire cities, but, for a long time, Ursula 590 was its.

“We have a couple of investors,” Daniel tells me, as he lays the phone down on the table. “But they want immediate results.”

“Do you think that Manacom will rush us into charging up a teleport with our mana?” I ask. I have nothing against that, but I am not confident that Daniel is ready for such an operation.

“If they do, then we will do our best,” he says. Then, he takes his bag from the floor, and rummages in it. “I saw this, and thought of you.”

He takes out a red heart, with an Illity picture in the middle, and hands it to me.

“I just thought that, seeing as we will be busy, from now on, we can spend some time together, before Agafia calls us,” Daniel continues, as I stare at the heart.

I remain silent, not reaching out towards the heart. He bites his lower lip, before speaking again.

“Don’t you like it?” He asks. I shake my head.

“It is lovely. It is just that... Daniel, do you really like me, or do you feel like you should like me? Because of the imprinting?” I ask.

“I’d like to do something, close your eyes,” Daniel says, and I do so. I hear him get up from his chair, and come towards me. I keep my eyes closed, when he stops before me. “Keep your eyes closed, no matter what. Don’t open them, until I tell you to.”

“But, why?” I ask. My eyes flutter, but he places a hand over them.

“I want to play a game with you,” he says. I can hear his amusement in his voice.

“Ok,” I agree.

“Imagine I am a Naga. What color would my tail be?” Daniel asks. I sigh.

“Daniel...” I say, but he doesn’t let me finish. He presses his lips to mine, and whispers.

“Just imagine,” he says.

“Your tail will be brown. No, caramel colored. Like your eyes. I like your eyes,” I murmur. He climbs into my lap, and straddles me. “Daniel.”

“We aren’t doing anything bad. So, caramel tail. Will my scales be as smooth as yours?” He asks me. I ponder over the question.

“Well, your skin is a bit rougher than mine. So, I think your scales will have a shine to them, but be harder than mine,” I tell him, not seeing where he is going with that.

“Ok, is there anything you’d like to change about me, besides my legs?” He asks. My eyes go wide. “Don’t open your eyes.”

“Don’t try to change your body! Daniel, I like you the way you are. Your legs are not the problem,” I say, trying to convey my urgency in my voice. He chuckles at that.

“You know, the thought didn’t so much as cross my mind, but now that you bring it up...” he lets his words trail off. I can feel the mana gathering inside his legs.

“Daniel Samkiel, if you end up with a snake’s tail, I will never speak to you again,” I hiss, and the mana flow is interrupted.

“Then tell me: how do I make myself more desirable? How do I make you see me as more than a friend?” He asks. I open my mouth to speak, but his lips seal mine.

Relaxing into the kiss, I let his tongue explore my mouth. My own tongue darts out, and tangles in with his own. He tastes of magaza wine. Which is strange. He didn’t seem drunk to me. When we break apart, he removes his hand from my eyes.

“You are my guide into Mcfantasy land,” he says, and I giggle.

“I don’t think anyone has ever called the Cosmos that, but I suppose it is better than Snakelandia,” I say, and he presses his nose to mine. Our breaths mingle, and I can hear him taking in my scent.

“What I mean to say is, that if it wasn’t for you, I’d still be in my 9 to 5, with the occasional writing session,” he runs his nose up the length of mine, and grips me all the more tightly. “To think that, if I didn’t have magic, you wouldn’t have ever brought me here.”

“I would have, brought you here, I mean,” I tell him. He looks at me with slightly raised eyebrows. “Once I realized what the orange potion with the red bubbles meant.”

“By the time you did, I would have been six feet under,” Daniel says. “You are adorable in your obviousness.”

I rest my hand on the back of his neck, and bring him in for another kiss.

“I will let that slide because it goes to show how much you like me,” I say, when we break apart again. “But there is a big problem before us.”

“And that is?” Daniel asks, his thumbs drawling circles on my sides. I can feel their warmth, even though the fabric of my shirt. It is comfortable, and I can see myself doing such things with him more often.

“I have no idea how sex between us will work. I mean, you are a human. I very much doubt you have a big enough hole for two...penises,” I blush at the last part. He blinks at me.

“You have how many of what?” He stutters, and I just giggle at him. My blush spreading.
