Chapter 32:

Preparation for the operation

Constantine:

After Alfred and Gregor leave, I slither back to my room. Daniel is lying on top of the covers, his naked body exposed in all its glory. My eyes roam up and down his frame, drinking him in.

He is perfection...

He smiles at me, and holds a hand to me. I slither to him, and take it. Bringing it to my lips, I think about how I am going to break the news to him.

After all, what we are about to do is risky. No matter how many times the two police officers told me that we will be watched, and kept to the domed area of the moon, I still can’t help but worry.

“Have you ever wanted to be a part of a crime novel?” I ask him, deciding to take the long way around the issue.

“It is probably more trouble than it is worth. Still, it sounds exciting,” Daniel tells me, as he begins to tug me back to the bed.

“That is good to know because I signed us up to help to catch the emotion thief,” I tell him. I search into his face for any traces of fear. Instead of that, he shakes his head.

“You will be used as bait,” he says.

“Well, they said that the thief,” I begin, but he silences me with a look.

“How many securities will the police provide for us?” Daniel asks. I rest my head on the pillow next to him. Moving on the bed, I prop myself up on my elbow, so I can have a better look at his face.

“Camera surveillance, an officer in the apartment next to ours. The entire Ursula 589 will be watched,” I tell him. He looks confused for a second, and then realization hits him.

“They want us to play bait in a place, that doesn’t have air? What if we need to run to escape the thief, and we can’t because we will be restricted to the domes?” Daniel asks me. Huh, I haven’t thought of that.

“The thief hasn’t hurt anyone, so far. If you don’t want to go, then I will go alone. Just imagine: what if the thief is one of those shadowy things from Dimension Beta?” I take his hands in mine, and hold them gently. His skin is cold. I should turn on the heating.

I try to get up to do just that, when he tugs me back to the bed.

“Where were you going to go?” He asks, as if I am going to fly to Ursula 589 tonight, and leave him all alone.

“To turn on the heating. Your skin is cold,” I say. He nods, gets up, and goes to the switch for the heating. He flips it on, and the mana floods the room, making it warm in seconds.

“This is so strange. How fast things get done around here. I mean, aren’t you afraid that your heating will act out, and fry you in your room?” Daniel asks, as he makes his way back to the bed. I don’t answer for a while, distracted by the movements of his hips. Of how graceful his legs move. So, hypnotic...

“Should I bonk you, and send you back to the horny jail? Tine, I am trying to talk you out of a mistake here,” he places a hand on my cheek, and brushes his thumb over my skin.

“It is not a mistake. Catching the thief is something we must do. Today, he steals from me, but just the other day, he stole from Noah,” I remind him. “What if the thief is caught in the act, one day. What if that makes him violent?”

“This is precisely why we shouldn’t do this,” Daniel says. I huff, and silence him with a kiss.

“There is no risk,” I insist, when we break the kiss. “The police on Ursula 590 is not like the police on Earth.”

“I bet you thought that the Naga and the rest of the citizens of the Cosmos were better than us, the humans. But then, you met me, didn’t you?” I bite my lower lip at that.

Yes, I did think us superior. Humans just...they started wars with the rest of the Cosmos. They were the reason behind their solar system becoming a dead zone.

“I’m doing this. You don’t have to come with me,” I say in a small voice. I just want to catch the thief. To figure out his reasoning. And if he or she ends up one of those shadowy creatures, then, well, it is my duty to capture it. After all, Daniel and I are the ones who poke around their dimension.

“I will never leave you alone on a moon. Unprotected, and under pressure,” Daniel tells me, as he brings me close. “Do you want to go? Fine, I’ll go with you. How long do we have, before we have to leave?”

“They need to set up the surveillance perimeter,” I tell him. “In the papers I signed, it was written that they needed a week.”

“A week, then. That is good. I’ll ask Frederik and Ferenc to teach me how to use a plasma gun,” he says. I blink at that.

“You do know that only the police have the right to bear arms, right?” I ask. Didn’t I show him our laws? I am fairly certain that he read through the entire site.

“Wait, really?” He asks. I nod. “So, Frederik and Ferenc are police officers?”

“Sort of, they are. On lease from their home planet,” I chuckle, when he looks disappointed. “Is it easy to get plasma guns, from where you are?”

“Easier than getting a loaf of bread, as long as you have money,” he says with a sigh. “This will all take some getting used to.”

“I will be here for you,” I kiss his nose, and snuggle into him. His skin is still sort of cold. I wrap my tail around his legs, to warm them up.

“I was hoping to spoon you,” he whines. I nuzzle into his neck.

“And I want to cuddle with you, so, there,” I clap my hands together, and the lights get turned off.
