Chapter 61:

Getting the news

Daniel:

“Everything will be ready by the end of the week,” Nahndor tells us, and I breathe a sigh of relief. Ursula 589 is a wonderful place, but we have barely gotten a chance to explore it. We spent our time locked up in our room, having to either watch TV, or stare at the walls. Robin will not soon forget about the Brain Scrambler.

“Do you have any news from the office? How are things going over there?” I ask him, fishing for gossip. I can see that Constantine stands to attention next to me. Anything to break our monotony, I guess.

“The new teleport is coming next month,” Nahndor says proudly. “And, we are going to have a favor to cash in, soon.”

“Oh, do tell,” Constantine says, and I nod along.

“When you come back,” Nahndor says, as he winks. We both groan, but he doesn’t give us anything else. “Have fun.”

With that, he cuts the phone call. I stare at Constantine, who stares back.

“TV?” I suggest. Constantine takes only one look at the TV, and scoops me up.

“Sex,” he demands instead, and I have to grin.

So, we are to the point where both of us have cabin fever? That is good. People have been known to pass the time with the bedroom sport when they came down with it. I begin tugging at his clothes, and am just about to begin kissing up and down his neck, when there is a knock on the door.

Constantine deposits me on the bed like a sack of potatoes, and goes to see who it is. I huff, narrow my eyes, and begin to button my shirt back up. Instead of someone from our security team, it is Rodger who slithers inside. He takes one look at me, and gives me a wolfish grin.

“You dog,” he says, and whistles. I just get up from the bed, and go to give him a one-armed hug.

“It is good to see you too,” I tell him, meaning every word.

“Your jail time is over,” Rodger proclaims, and I look at him. “Although, you are on parole now.”

“So, no going out without security?” I ask him.

“Unfortunately. Still, we can go ride hopping now,” Rodger and I grin. Constantine clears his throat.

“No more Brain Scramblers,” he says, his tone allowing no arguments.

“Panty pooper,” Rodger says.

“That doesn’t make any sense. Especially for a Naga! We don’t wear panties!” Constantine snaps. Rodger just shrugs.

“Daniel came up with it,” he says, as he lets me be the one thrown in the fire.

“Sorry,” I mumble.

“Anyway, let us go. I have the entire...” Rodger begins, but then two Naga burst into the room.

“Mister Prime Minister, why did you leave your apartments?” One of them asks. I turn to Rodger with a raised eyebrow.

“Our jail time is over, huh?” I ask him, in the driest tone I can manage.

“Well...” he begins, as one of the Naga comes, and takes him by the arm.

“Sir, please, come back with us,” the Naga says. I can see that he doesn’t treat Rodger like an important figure, despite addressing him as such. He must have been around Rod for a long time.

“Can’t they come and visit?” Rodger whines. The two Naga hold up their phones at us, and we are then scanned by a green light.

“No weapons. They could come, provided they have permission,” one of the men says. Rodger sighs.

“This brings me back to the days when I had to ask my parents to bring friends over for play dates. Honestly, the indignities I suffer in my old age,” Rodger sighs again, and then follows his security detail out.

“Well, I guess we need to speak with Robin,” I offer. Constantine nods. He is either too bored to care that we will be spending time with Rod, or thinking about getting him to help us. I hope he grows to enjoy Rod’s company as much as I do. Rodger is a nice guy. Like a snarky grandpa.

We walk out of the room, and, after about five minutes, we are before Robin and Ray’s room. I knock on the door. Robin pokes his head out. When he sees it is us, he opens the door wide.

“Oh, come in. Do you want to play some board games?” Robin asks, looking as bored as both Constantine and me.

“We have been invited to spend some time with Rodger,” I tell him. He begins to shake his head.

“The last time we let you go, you went and did a Brain Scrambler,” ah, I was right that he won’t let us forget anytime soon.

“He’ll have his security with him. We won’t leave the hotel. Please, Robin. If we don’t get out of here, Constantine will fuck my brains out,” I whine. Constantine mutters something that sounds suspiciously like, “it won’t take much on my part.” I decide to let it slide because he is not arguing that we should see Rodger.

“As tragic as that is,” Robin begins. Then, Ferenc, of all people, pokes his head out of the door.

“Oh, I can’t stay in here for another hour. Let us go and see the Brain Scrambler fanatic,” Ferenc says, and then hugs Robin from behind. “I hear his hotel has a hot tub.”

“I heard that as well,” Ray chimes in from the desk. I notice that Frederik is sitting at the foot of his chair, holding one of his legs.

“You four are...” I begin, and Robin is quick to clarify.

“We used to be lovers. That is, Ferenc and I, and Ray and Frederik. We decided to bury the hatchet, and start anew,” Robin says, as he turns around, and gives Ferenc a kiss on the nose. “Come on, get ready. If we are going to the Deltona hotel, this will be crazy.”

“It better be,” Ferenc says. The two go back inside the room, and we wait for the four of them to get ready, so we can go together. It is not like we can go alone, seeing as we are sort of on house arrest.
