Chapter 64:

So many choices...

Hugo:

I can see that Nahndor is getting all jittery. The wide smile on the salesperson is not helping. Nahndor likes to give off the vibe that he can do anything, but it is refreshing that he gets worried, from time to time. I decide to take over the exchange, just to spare him the nervous breakdown.

“Hello, we are here for a warehouse,” I tell the salesperson. He nods, and waves us over, so we can follow.

“Do you want to rent it, or buy,” he asks.

“Rent for now,” I say, not really wanting to give him any high hopes.

“Well, we have many models for rent. What kind of volume are you looking for?” He asks. I turn to Nahndor. He gets to the point, then.

“Enough space, for a million headsets for emotion bottling, and about as many emotion solvents,” he says, and the salesperson turns to look at him. I can see that Nahndor shrinks in on himself. So, I take over again.

“We would like an engine with a sleep function, if you have one of those,” Roddy has such an engine. The deal is, that the piece building stops moving at night. Essentially, going to sleep.

“Oh, yes. But those are some of our more expensive models,” the Naga says. He turns around again, and I see his name plate. Colton Robinson.

“Mr. Robinson, we are going to rent the warehouse for a...” I turn to Nahndor.

“A month,” he says. I blink at that.

“Daniel and Constantine will stay in Ursula 589 for an additional month?” I ask him. He shakes his head.

“No, but we intend to collect potions for a month. The ones that are left over will be sold to fund Manacom,” ah, that is a smart move. Still, I don’t understand what the tourists will be getting out of this. Yet, I do not ask. Once we are back in Roddy, I can ask Nahndor.

“Manacom? You are the ones who disturb the spirits?” Colton asks.

“They are not spirits. What do you know about the lifespan of the average Naga, pre-Atlantis?” Nahndor asks, getting into his own waters, and feeling increasingly more relaxed the more he talks about Manacom. He fills us both in a couple of things I didn’t know.

Apparently, the thief is an ancestor of Constantine’s, and very much alive. Doesn’t appear to be violent, either. We slither to the parking lots, and Colton clears his throat.

“Right,” he says, as he points at the first warehouse in the line. “As interesting as all this is, I think we should get down to business. This model has a sleeper engine, a cooling room, which will keep the solvents and the potions in top-notch quality. Apart from that, it has air conditioning.”

“How big are the air tanks?” I ask.

“Air tanks?” Colton asks. “Just where are you going to put it?”

“On Ursula 589. So, we need air tanks,” I tell him. “They are the most important component, actually.”

“Ah, ok,” Colton slithers right pass that warehouse, and moves to the end of the parking lot. “You need one of our most expensive models. Nothing can be done about that. We have air tanks that can be refilled every day, and ones that will need a month to refill. The latter are cheaper.”

“They also don’t serve our needs. People will go in and out of the warehouse every day,” I tell Colton. He slithers pass a couple of models, and stops at the last warehouse in the lot.

“Then, we have only one option. If you ever want to use it here, you can switch up the air tanks, for mana tanks. Or, generators,” he says, as he makes a wide sweeping motion. “Straight from Nebula 543, we have Clarisse.”

I move, so I can read the plate with the features. Everything we asked for is there, as well as air filtering system, and dust removal. The warehouse comes together with the furniture, and a couple of cooling rooms. Also, it moves only once every twenty minutes, which will make a guide absolute.

I turn to Nahndor, and give him the thumbs up.

“So, this one is good?” He asks me, giving Colton the occasional sideways glance.

“We won’t find anything better in Mirstone. If you’d like, we can try Wendel, but I heard only good things about this piece building dealership,” I say, and Colton straightens up.

“Clarisse is the latest model. When you divide her price to the month you mentioned, then she will cost you only 100 golden scales per week,” he says. I can see that he has his phone in his hand. He shows me the screen, and I can see that he got the information on the spot.

“We don’t have time to be choosy,” Nahndor agrees. Then, he looks at Colton. “Do you also offer teleportation services to the destination?”

“We do,” Colton says, with more than a little satisfaction. “For only 1,000 golden scales, we will teleport your piece building to any location, and install it for you. We do not provide the electricians for the upkeep of the building, however.”

“That is ok, I can handle remote maintenance,” I say. Nahndor turns to me. I can see that he doesn’t want to ask this of me, and is glad that he didn’t have to.

“We do offer robots, that can be controlled remotely, however,” Colton says. “They come in the price of the building.”

Nahndor looks like Yule just came for him. He smiles brightly, and then looks around.

“What model are they?” He asks, and something tells me, that this is his last question for the sale.

“Nebula Doc 2000. A slightly older model, but reliable,” Colton then clicks on a button that is on the door of the warehouse, and a couple of robots come out. I grin at that.

“I used to play around with those back in college,” I say, and both men turn to stare at me.

“Hugo, remind me to tell Agafia to buy you robots, so you can tame Roddy,” Nahndor says. I rub the back of my head. Guess my calm days are over. All the better. I was beginning to get bored, just doing simple maintenance stuff.
