Chapter 67:

Bottle it up!

Constantine:

Today is the day. The headsets are in the booths; the solvents are on the tables. We are in the largest domed area on Ursula 589. If grandpa doesn’t come today, I don’t know when he will come. I slither next to Daniel, on the platform.

Rodger is going to give a speech, and show off our latest discovery. He pointed out the shadow Naga to world renowned researchers, and now, we have a name for the suit. Dust-co.

Unassuming, I know. But it is an ancient piece of technology, that is a mana shield, much like the ones that are around the planets. The problem with the shield is, that one needs to be able to use the mana of the core of a planet, to make use of the suit.

Still, Rodger got us two capsules that are supposed to be ingested. We, both Daniel and I, will be shadow creatures now. I am so happy that Daniel doesn’t have to do any body transformations, anymore. I was worried about him.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Rodger begins, as both Daniel and I are handed the Dust-co capsules. “Ten years ago, a thief came from the far reaches of the Cosmos, and he stole his first emotion potion.”

A murmur spreads around the crowds. I can see that people are confused. As far as they know, they are on a charity event. We simply didn’t have time to announce the big reveal, as the capsules came through the teleport yesterday.

“Now, we know that we are not dealing with a spirit, rather, with an ancestor. From a time, when each one of us could do what these two shamans can. Use the mana in the cores of our planets,” Rodger nods at us, and we swallow the capsules.

Mine tastes like melon. I hope that Daniel’s is also pleasant. I feel a buzzing under my skin. Like scratching myself, I let my mana encase me. That brings me immediate relief. Yet, a hush falls around us.

“These two shamans have made use of an ancient technology, as you can see,” Rodger says, making a sweeping motion, to show us off. I turn to Daniel, and see that he is having the time of his life, floating up above the ground.

Someone rises his hand. I can see that a camera flashes. Deciding that I have given everyone enough of a show, I dispel the surrounding shield. Daniel follows suit, although, he looks wistful.

Now that we have the Dust-co, we can actually go on moon walks. I wonder if the pillar speed bumps are going to activate, once we take to the air. How does that even work? I should ask Tony.

Rodger must have said something while I was lost in my musings because the crowd becomes a beehive of activity. I turn to Daniel, who is clapping energetically. The two of us get off the platform, and I lean into him.

“I was lost in my head. What were Rodger’s last words, back there?” I ask him.

“He says that, as long as Tony agrees to open negotiations about the reconciliation between us, and the ancestors, his thefts will be forgiven,” Daniel tells me. I envelop him in my arms, my tail wrapping around his legs. “Tine, you are squeezing the life out of me.”

“Sorry,” I say, as I slowly release him. I am going to have a new family member! No, two! Can’t forget the grandma. I have another grandma! I must get her a bouquet, to make up for all the missed Mother’s Day celebrations up to now.

“That is ok. I hope more of the ancestors come, and not just Tony. I really want to get to know your side of the family,” Daniel says.

“And you will know it. As soon as we come back, I am inviting my parents over,” I tell him. I don’t have the chance to say anything else because the reporters swarm us.

“Can you do the trick again?”

“Does it hurt to become a shadow Naga and human?”

“Since when have you known that the thief is not a spirit? In a police report, it was stated that the thief said, that he was dead!”

I wonder from where they know that. Still, I guess, that the reporters have their informants. I smile, and begin to answer the questions as good as I can. Daniel and I have to turn on the Dust-co only three more times.

“Don’t forget to donate to Manacom, as it will be the organization which will be responsible for the communication between the area of the Cosmos known as Dimension Beta, and our very own Dimension Alpha,” Daniel says.

“Wait, Mr. Samkiel, doesn’t the new facts prove the Dimensional Theory wrong?” one reporter, an elf woman, asks.

“Well, what are dimensions, really?” Daniel begins. I can see the sci-fi author in him, at this moment. He is going to make Manacom relevant, according to these reporters. Hopefully, in the eyes of the people, who are watching this from their homes as well. “I mean, what are the odds, that the Cosmos itself is not divided into dimensions? If it was not, then, as much as it pains me to say that, my species would have found the home of the ancestors, and sucked its mana dry.”

“Mr. Samkiel, do you feel remorse for what the humans did?” Another reporter asks. I glare at her, but she just shoves her microphone into Daniel’s face.

“I wasn’t born back then and neither were you, I’d imagine,” Daniel begins, and the reporter bites the inside of her cheeks. If she was expecting that Daniel begins a sob show, then she has another thing coming. “Still, I must admit that, what my ancestors did to yours, driving them away from the Cosmos, and stealing the mana of countless planets, is something that should never be allowed to repeat.”

“Are you saying that,” the reporter begins, but Rodger makes his way through the crowd, and takes a hold of Daniel’s arm.

“Come on. You need to argue the money off people for the Gigantoboa. You read up on it, right?” Rodger asks. His security is around him, which keeps the reporters from swarming him.

“Well, as much as I could. Let us do this,” Daniel says, and I let Rodger’s security get us out of the reporters’ clutches, and to the booths.
