“Your Majesty, are you safe?”

The tremendous moment was abruptly brought to a halt due to a sudden influx of people. The door suddenly opened without any prior warning, and people poured into the Emperor’s bathroom. Count Charmille, Captain of the Emperor’s Guard, was at the forefront of those who, in principle, deserved to be hanged for disrespecting the Emperor.

Count Charmille, who re-entered the court in the middle of the night after receiving a report of the incident from his mansion, set out to find the Emperor first. The captain of the Imperial Guard had been looking for him in his bed chamber, knowing that he would be there, but realized that the Emperor was not present, even after the bedtime ceremony, and began to panic.

The same was true of the guardsmen, who had lost the Emperor’s location. They frantically searched for the missing Emperor, and it took almost twenty minutes to finally find out that the Emperor was in the bathroom.

The Captain of the Imperial Guard was concerned only with the Emperor’s safety and entered his private space without permission, but found two bodies intertwined under the thick steam, and froze on the spot. The Emperor rushed towards the man pinned underneath him as if to devour him, but was interrupted by Count Charmille, and raised his face in annoyance.

“What sort of impertinence is this? Who allowed you to come in here without permission?”

The Emperor, being interrupted at an important moment, rebuked the captain angrily. Count Charmille took a sharp breath when he realized what time he had interrupted.

In a bathtub in which rose oil was released, the two were entangled naked. The Emperor’s desire was evident to anyone, and the atmosphere in the room was filled with the unique seductive sensuality that would gather just before sex. The Emperor’s attitude of reprimanding him, and even the sensitivity peculiar to a man who was discontent regarding his desires, was thorny so Count Charmille hurried to his knees, not knowing what to do.

“M-My deepest apologies, Your Majesty. There was a major mishap that took place in the court, so I had no choice but to report this to Your Majesty.”

“Did you say a mishap?”

The Emperor asked the question apathetically, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t listen to the captain’s report. The Emperor finally released the other person’s arms, which he had been holding until then, and turned his gaze to the captain.

“What is going on?”

Among them, a fragile lady was a guest that should be protected with special care, and that such a guest passed away in the middle of the night was staggering for an Emperor who claimed to be the guardian of the court.

“What does that mean? Did you just say the Countess’ companion was murdered?”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

“Is Adelaide safe?”

“She was very surprised but is safe. Our guardsmen are guarding the lady’s surroundings like an ironclad.”

Naturally, the first thing the Emperor was curious about was the safety of his beloved concubine. The captain had foreseen that he would be asked that question, and politely announced the measures he had taken. The Emperor breathed out a sigh of relief after hearing his report and began to move ahead with the situation in a calm and orderly manner.

“Who was murdered if it were one of Countess Patrí’s companions? Was it Viscountess Wemmel?”

“No. It was Louise de Dumont.”

Of all people. The Emperor frowned as if he had tasted something bitter. There was no way the captain was unaware of the unpleasant stories associated with Louise de Dumont, so he bowed his head as if he were apologizing once again.

“… And so? Did you catch the culprit?”

“We are still chasing him. According to the eyewitness, the wicked man who killed Louise de Dumont ran away from the Azure Pearl Palace and headed straight for the maze garden. He is still presumed to be within the maze garden. After blocking the surroundings with the palace guards, the 2nd and 3rd Guards were sent inside for a search, and the noblemen who heard the news are also joining the ranks to help with the search.”

“What kind of man dared to kill a lady in the court? Do you know the identity of the criminal?”

“Though it has not been confirmed yet, rumor has it that the culprit is-.”

Count Charmille, who had been talking up to that point, suddenly frowned and looked back at the man sitting in the bathtub with the Emperor. He thought the man looked familiar for some reason, but when the vapor filling the room escaped through the open door, he was able to see exactly who he was.

The man sitting in the bathtub with the Emperor hunched his shoulders, without even daring to lift his red flushed face. He averted his gaze as if he was embarrassed when Count Charmille looked at him, but nevertheless, he could not hide the evidence of his red lips, swollen from the intense kiss.

Count Charmille, feeling the shock of being hit in the back of the head with a blunt weapon, looked at him blankly. Then, the Emperor, who noticed his gaze, sent a warning glance with a stern attitude as if he would not tolerate the gaze of others on him.

He could clearly sense that the person who used to receive reports casually even when he was in the same bed with his beloved concubines showed an annoyed look that was unlike him. Count Charmille lowered his gaze at the clear instruction sent by the Emperor through his eyes.

He was very surprised that the Emperor’s partner was not a woman. But what made him even more flabbergasted was the fact that the true identity of the man entangled with the Emperor was Baron Amieux.

Since he had received reports of the commotion sweeping the court, he knew exactly why Baron Amieux was accused of being the culprit. Baron Amieux was presumed to be the culprit, not only because he was not at his residence when the Duke of Fernand went looking for him, but also because his whereabouts were nowhere to be found after that.

“The culprit is?”

Count Charmille was about to give an answer at any moment but drew a long pause and looked troubled, and the Emperor, who did not know why, asked coldly. However, Count Charmille could not tell the Emperor, who was showing his blatant monopoly, like right now, that the very man you were biting and sucking on was suspected of being the culprit. He bowed his head and turned his pause into an apology.

“-There are rumors about the culprit, but they seem to be unfounded. Since it happened suddenly in the middle of the night, there are many false rumors, and there is no one to control them, so the commotion is growing out of control. Now that I know that Your Majesty is safe, I will place guard knights around this area, and then I will personally step in and solve the case. Would it be all right if I leave my spot for a while?”

“You are solely responsible for the situation of armed force in Our court. We shall entrust you with this case, so take responsibility, follow up, and catch the culprit. Do not set a bad precedent for what happens after one murders a lady in Our court and then runs away. We will trust you.”

“Yes, Your Majesty. I shall repay Your Majesty’s trust in me with all my might.”

Count Charmille, ordered by the Emperor, quietly retreated, leaving behind a few knights. The guard knights, who had checked the situation inside the door, quickly stepped back as well and shut the door quietly when Count Charmille came out of the bathroom so that the Emperor could continue what he was doing.

Only then did Eugène understand the meaning of the Emperor’s actions. Thanks to what Count Charmille had witnessed a while ago, he would no longer be suspected of being Louise’s murderer. The problem, however, was that even bigger rumors were awaiting him. He was no longer Louise’s murderer, but the Emperor’s secret lover.

Count Charmille and many other guard knights witnessed the scene with him and the Emperor, and they misunderstood the relationship between the two as intended by the Emperor. If these provocative rumors were added to today’s commotion, it was only a matter of time before the rumors about it swept the entire imperial court.

Eugène was distracted with expectations of the hardships and adversity that would come to him in the future, said nothing, and looked up at the Emperor blankly. The Emperor held Eugène’s gaze in front of his face and whispered to him, gently raising the corner of his mouth.

“You said that you would readily accept any punishment in return, did you not? It is not easy to make promises you cannot keep. You have sworn with your own mouth, so stick to it. We will see how you live through it.”

After mocking him tenderly, the Emperor kissed Eugène once more on the lips. It was a sweet kiss that was completely different from the rough play before, but for Eugène, that kiss remained the most painful of all.
