Haunted Building Fright Night (1)

“Brother Jian, which examination room are you in?” Zhou Li called out to him from afar. “I’m in room 3, how about you?”

“Room 5.” Bian Shengjian carefully looked at the seat assignment table, then turned around and asked, “Hey, do you have to take the exam too?”

“Ah?” Lu Shen was stunned for a moment, feeling a little helpless. “I am a student now……Of course I have to.”

“By the way, have you really…… stayed in No. 4 Middle School for more than ten years?”

Bian Shengjian asked in a low voice. Now that he and Lu Shen had been together for quite a time, he couldn’t help but want to know more about his past. “Then how did you get here before?”

“Don’t ask about such things,” Lu Shen said vaguely, “It’s all in the past.”

“No, now that we are together, is there anything else you can’t tell me?” Bian Shengjian frowned, “Do you not want to tell me?”

“…… I don’t want to say it.” Lu Shen directly turned his head aside, his attitude was quite firm.

“You dare to be stubborn now?” Bian Shengjian became a little annoyed all of a sudden, he reached out and wanted to grab his shoulder, but before he could touch him, Lu Shen suddenly turned around and hugged him quickly. He rested his chin on his shoulder and gave out a long sigh. “I’m sorry…but I really don’t want to say it.”

Bian Shengjian was keenly aware of the emotional change in Lu Shen’s tone. His hand that paused in mid-air, quickly tore him away. “Go away, if you want to talk, talk it out, don’t be so sticky all day long, okay?”

“Okay–” Lu Shen smiled, and casually stuffed a book into Bian Shengjian’s hand. “Here, you can take a look at it when you get to the examination room.”

“What nonsense, look, it’s not that I’d pass anyway.” Bian Shengjian clicked his tongue, but still rolled up the information book in his hand. “I’ll go now.”

“Wait,” Lu Shen persevered and gave him another book, “Just take a look… You have to think about your own future.”

“I know what I should do in the future,” Bian Shengjian said impatiently, “I don’t have to take the college entrance examination anyway, so why worry so much……..Why are you giving me this?”

“I sorted it out for you during class.” Lu Shen raised his eyebrows and looked at him, “Sometimes, it’s better to listen to class before going out, young master.”

“I listened, but I’m too lazy to remember it.” Bian Shengjian clicked his tongue before picking it up. “…All right, I’ll take a look later.”

“Good luck on taking the exam,” Lu Shen smiled, and softly leaned forward and whispered in his ear. “I’ll wait for you at the door later.”

“Damn, can you fucking talk properly?” Bian Shengjian coiled his body for a moment, rubbed his ears angrily, and slapped him on the shoulder. “Scram!”

After finding the corresponding seat in the examination room, Shengjian sat down and stretched, clutching the two materials, he then started flipping through them.

To be honest, Lu Shen’s notes were very neatly sorted out, and the words were beautifully written. Even if he didn’t look at the content, it still made him feel very comfortable while reading it. Bian Shengjian turned from reviewing to admiring. Lu Shen seemed to seriously write everything in his notebook, stroke by stroke.

Bian Shengjian smiled with the corner of his mouth curled up.

Fool.

There were still more than forty minutes before the start of the exam, yet the invigilator had already started to urge everyone under the podium to put their things on the platform and sit down. Bian Shengjian was also about to close the book and stand up, but from the corner of his eyes, he seemed to notice a line of small words written at the upper left corner of one the pages of the book.

What is this?

Bian Shengjian took a closer look at the small words.

I miss you very much today too.

“…Damn.” Bian Shengjian suddenly felt his heart move, and couldn’t help cursing in a low voice. “That idiot…..Lu-”

“All your stuff should be put away soon! If you want to review, why didn’t you review well before the exam? Everyone knows that cramming won’t work here…..Be careful of the Buddha kicking you!”

The invigilator on the podium was a middle-aged old man, bald, and looked quite irritable.

“Hurry up, hurry up! Don’t force me to rush you all the time!”

After being yelled at a few times, the people in the audience got up sparsely and walked slowly to the podium, their eyes fixed on the book for a moment, as if they wished to quickly absorb all the essence of the book in these precious tens of seconds, turning knowledge into power.

Bian Shengjian picked up the pen and quickly added a word next to the line:

Uh-huh.

He continued to turn the pages, and as expected, he discovered written words in every corner of the pages.

I like you.

What are you doing?

Look at me.

Young Bian, come and give me a hug.

Shall we watch the sunset together?

Bian Shengjian.

Bian Shengjian took a deep breath, took advantage of the old man’s patience to the limit, and began to write with the pen. The ink from the tip of the pen even stained his fingers.

Me too.

Taking an exam.

Can’t see it now.

Hug for a while.

Can watch.

When writing the last one, Bian Shengjian’s hand paused for a moment. It could be seen that Lu Shen wrote his name with force, that the last scribble of the border directly pierced the paper.

What were you thinking at that time?

“If you don’t put down your materials, I’ll think that you all are cheating!”

The old man slapped the podium and roared, startling the few people who were still struggling to stand up and run to the podium. Bian Shengjian was probably the only one that was still seated.

“That classmate over there! Do you want to cheat?” The old man turned to stare at him, “Hurry up and bring your materials over!”

“…..yes”

Bian Shengjian responded, picked up a pen and quickly wrote something next to his name, stood up, and put the two materials on the podium under the angry gaze of the old man. “Teacher, I’m sorry.”

“Get ready for the exam!” The old man snorted and began to hand out the papers.

Bian Shengjian returned to his seat, supported his chin with one hand and began to look out the window. He couldn’t help but hook the corners of his mouth.

I am here.

During the examination, Bian Shengjian’s mood was extremely calm. Even if he hadn’t reviewed many of the topics that seemed to be important, he patiently scanned the questions line by line. If he couldn’t answer it, he would skip it and focus on the basic questions.

But because this test was about language and literature, he was not too blind like in mathematics. As a liberal arts student, he could at least pull off two lines of words.

When Bian Shengjian turned over to write an essay next, he looked up at the clock. There was still plenty of time, and there was still an hour left.

He put down the pen and relaxed his wrist a little, and slowly began to read what the topic for the essay was. It asked for a comprehensive understanding of the following materials, and to write an article on the topic of the moral of the materials. Determine the idea, style and title independently; No imitation, no plagiarism, no less than 800 words…..

Bian Shengjian was pulling his paper to make a draft, when he suddenly felt something hit his calf. He lowered his head inexplicably, only to find a small folded note.

“Hey buddy, help me kick it.” A small voice came from his side.

Bian Shengjian frowned, picked up the little piece of paper with his toes, and kicked it over there, right under the man’s feet.

“Thanks.” The man breathed a sigh of relief, lowered his head and pretended to be thinking, and quietly fished it down his hands, unfolded the hard-won note under the table, and copied it frantically.

Seeing his series of actions, Bian Shengjian couldn’t help but twitch the corners of his mouth.

What would he copy on a language and literature exam? The essay?

The people at this school are really amazing.

Bian Shengjian didn’t look at that person again, lowered his head to make a draft, and then slowly filled in the words on the space provided. Now that the exam was about to end, he felt his heart flutter a little, and that someone’s face flashed back and forth in front of his eyes.

Tsk tsk.

Bian Shengjian hurriedly took advantage of the fact that he still had some ideas in mind, and wrote the essay to 900-words even if he made up something randomly.

When he rubbed his wrist and put down the pen, it was exactly five minutes before the time was up.

He breathed a sigh of relief, flipped through the answer sheet and checked it. After making sure that he hadn’t missed or not filled in the multiple choice questions of a test number, he put down his pen and looked out the window.

Tapping lightly on the table twice, the words Lu Shen said before the exam flashed suddenly in Bian Shengjian’s mind: “You have to think about your own future.”

Future.

What will their future be like?

Bian Shengjian was suddenly a little dazed.

But when he got out of the classroom and saw Lu Shen’s face smiling at him in the crowd, he still couldn’t help but curl his lips.

Who cares, I just want what is now.

“I’m giving it back to you.” Bian Shengjian patted the two materials back into his arms.

“How about it, did you read it before the exam?” Lu Shen asked.

“I didn’t read it,” Bian Shengjian looked at him with his arms folded, “But I found some small thoughts of someone… Lu Shen, are you really this idle?”

“Yes, but didn’t you answer them one by one?” Lu Shen smiled and said, “What should I do, Young Bian, I really think you are so cute.”

“Get lost!” Bian Shengjian pointed at him, “Try it again one more time.”

“Cute, cute, you are the cutest in the whole world.” Lu Shen smiled and stretched out his hand to wrap his arms around his neck, and said quickly in a low voice, “My lovely Young Bian, come and give this brother a kiss.”

“…Are you fucking sick?” Bian Shengjian also lowered his voice, “You…..”

Before he could finish speaking, Lu Shen suddenly grabbed his arm. “Let’s go!”

“…Where are we going?” Bian Shengtong was accidentally pulled a few steps forward.

“To watch the sunset! Hahahaha~”

****

“Damn, the exam is finally over.”

When Bian Shengjian returned to the dormitory, he slumped directly on the bed. After the two-day exams, he finally felt exhausted from studying for a long time, but this was also good, at least it proved that he was not a scum who’s just here to dawdle.

While humming a little song, he planned to take a quick bath before playing on his guitar. He was also thinking about going to the next door to chat with Lu Shen before going to bed……and maybe do something else along the way.

Bian Shengjian hooked the corners of his lips, but just as he opened the cabinet to fish out the bath towel he bought yesterday, his outstretched hand paused in mid-air, and then he straightened up quickly.

……….. What is this sound?

Wu—

Bian Shengjian suddenly turned around and looked at the door. There was no one, and the door was closed as well.

He subconsciously bent down to look at the bottom of the bed, but he didn’t find anything strange.

Wuwu—

Bian Shengjian instantly felt his scalp explode. Although his mind was a little blank at the moment, he could hear it clearly this time:

It’s the sound of crying. Where is the cry coming from?

He swallowed a mouthful of saliva and focused his ears to listen, and felt that strange little whimper seemed to be right next to his ear, but after a while, it seemed to drift away again, and drifted straight to the direction of the door—

Bian Shengjian opened the door abruptly, stared at the empty corridor for a few seconds, then he quickly ran next door and knocked on its door. “Lu Shen!”

“What’s the matter?” The door opened almost in the next second, and Lu Shen reacted the moment he saw the expression on Shengjian’s face before him, and grabbed his cold hand. “Did you hear something?'”

“Crying,” Bian Shengjian frowned, “I heard a cry.”

Lu Shen didn’t speak, and it took him a long time to put his arms around his shoulders and pat him. “Don’t be afraid…”

“Today is the 18th.” Bian Shengjian was still frowning, “Didn’t you say…”

“The situation has changed.” The expression on Lu Shen’s face became a little dark and unpredictable. “There may be something coming out tonight.”

“Then what should we do now?” Bian Shengjian looked at him.

“Can you hear where the crying is coming from?” Lu Shen also looked at him.

“In…” Bian Shengjian frowned and looked around, “Strange, now it seems to have disappeared again.”

“It can’t completely stay.” After hearing this, Lu Shen squeezed his hand. “Go and put on a scarf, let’s go downstairs and walk around twice.”

“Now?” Bian Shengjian stared at him with wide eyes, “Damn, do you know how cold it is right now?”

“Sorry,” Lu Shen lightly stroked his fingertips, “After it’s resolved this time……I’ll give you a gift.”

“What gift?” Bian Shengjian touched his ear subconsciously, “Didn’t you just give it?”

“Guess.” Lu Shen smiled, but Bian Shengjian could see that he was trying to force his smile at the moment. After a pause, he turned around and walked to his dormitory. “Wait for me for a minute.”

The temperature in the last ten days of November had dropped very low, and the cold wind blowing on the face when going out at this hour made Bian Shengjian shiver uncontrollably. While he wrapped his coat tightly, he couldn’t help stamping his legs. “Damn………so fucking cold.”

“Third brother, do you hear it again?” Lu Shen couldn’t help asking as soon as he walked out of the dormitory building.

“Are you treating me as a radar?” Bian Shengjian was so cold that his teeth trembled a little, “You……”

Bian Shengjian stopped in the middle of speaking, and at this moment in the silence, he suddenly heard a thin sob, just like what he heard just now.

Someone was crying, and was crying very sadly.

Bian Shengjian became shocked. “Lu Shen!”

“What’s wrong?” Lu Shen’s voice suddenly rose, “Did you hear it again?”

“En.” Bian Shengjian hesitated, and listened carefully for a while before pointing to the intersection. “Over there.”

“Let’s go.” Lu Shen clenched his hand, took another deep breath and said, “Don’t be afraid.”

“It’s okay,” Bian Shengjian pinched his knuckles, “let’s go.”

But in all honesty, he was feeling quite strange. Bian Shengjian felt as if he was being attracted by the crying and was being dragged in one direction. If Lu Shen had not been following him closely, maybe something weird might happen again tonight…But in the  final analysis, from whom did he exactly inherit this ghost-attracting physique?

Bian Shengjian stopped and raised his head in a daze.

“Are you sure it came from the inside?” Lu Shen asked.

“Mn, the crying had stopped.” Bian Shengjian paused for a moment and before him, he saw a dilapidated building in front. His hairs stood on end in an instant.

“Damn, why didn’t I know there’s another school building here?”

“This is an old church, and the area used by our school was renovated.” Lu Shen said.

“…… Fuck, a haunted building?” Bian Shengjian couldn’t help but rubbed his arms.

In fact, it was not wrong to say that it was a haunted building. After all, from the outside, this old building already had the atmosphere that from a horror movie, and when they entered inside, they noticed that it was full of old-fashioned wooden floors. It even made a creaking sound when they stepped on it, which was even more rash in the silence.

“Third brother.”

Lu Shen’s whole state had changed as soon as he entered the ghost building, and his face became a little dark. “Be careful, we have entered its domain.”

“Domain? What do you mean?” Bian Shengjian looked at him, suddenly unable to react.

“That is to say, within a certain range, the resentful spirit can control and change the environment around it…” Lu Shen’s voice suddenly became a little fuzzy. Frightened, Bian Shengjian quickly grabbed his arm with both of his hands: “And then?”

“So this time you must make sure to stick to my side.” Lu Shen said.

“Okay.” Bian Shengjian gritted his teeth, “Then what should we do now? Go upstairs?”

“Let’s go upstairs to check the situation first.”

Lu Shen kicked away the debris blocking them, and clasped Bian Shengjian’s hand tightly. “Let’s go.”

Bian Shengjian held his breath, and moved slowly with Lu Shen. Because the surrounding environment was pitch black, the two of them could only barely use the flashlight of the mobile phone to illuminate their way. The light also gave them a sense of security, but beyond where the light couldn’t reach…..

Bian Shengjian hesitated for a moment, then curled a finger and gently scratched Lu Shen’s palm twice.

Lu Shen paused, and quickly scratched back.

Bian Shengjian let out a sigh of relief.

But now everything they gazed upon was chaos: collapsed tables and chairs, sundries everywhere, garbage… Bian Shengjian even saw a broken basketball and used cond*ms in a corner.

…..Fuck, who is so disgusting to come here and shoot?

The two soon found the stairs leading to the second floor after walking through the messy corridor, and because the stairs in the old parish were also made of wood, there was a series of teeth-stinging creaking sounds when they went up. Bian Shengjian had just taken a few steps up and didn’t even dare to step down, for fear that the stairs would not be able to bear too much weight and they would fall back to the first floor directly.

“Damn, this thing won’t collapse, will it?”

“Probably not.” Lu Shen replied quickly, but Bian Shengjian somehow felt that his voice became more and more fuzzy at this moment, as if he was hearing it through a layer of cotton. When the two were about to turn around to the second floor, he subconsciously grabbed Lu Shen’s arm.

 “……”

Suddenly he felt his hands loosen, and Bian Shengjian froze for two seconds before slowly turning his head. The moment he saw the scene in front of him, his pupils shrank into a tiny dot, and even his breathing stopped.

Lu Shen, who had been by his side just now, disappeared.
