Chapter 208: First Lesson 5

As the smoke got dissipated, thanks to the wind magic that was precisely used, a man with loose clothes was revealed.
"Even though I was a mage, you had assumed I was a knight."
Without even waiting for students to regain their composures, Cernais continued his talk.
"Because you lacked the knowledge of such a magic since it was the first time for you to see it."
/CLAP/
As he clapped his hands again, the arm that was now looking thin again started bulging while growing in volume.
"This is a type of earthen magic that could be utilized in order to increase one's body volume. Even though it is not that effective when it comes to directly dealing damage to the enemy, it has its own use."
Looking at the young students who as watching him attentively to finish his words, the smile on his face grew further.
"What could it be?"
As he asked the question, naturally, a bunch of hands was raised.
"Yes, Student Shaila."
Giving the right to speak to the girl, he said.
"It helps us to surprise the enemy."
The girl named Shaila answered.
"Yes. Good and simple."
"As I had said and shown before, such magic can help you surprise the enemy."
/CLAP/
He said as he clapped his hands once again.
This time, suddenly, a sharp mud was conjured in the air as it went right past the ear of a dozing student.
/CRASH/
Crashing the wall.
"Huh?"
The student who was dozing off was surprised by the response, but it was not only him.
"You couldn't even sense it, right?"
As he asked again with a smile, most of the students nodded in response.
'He had already conjured the spell while he was bulging his body and just delayed the mana. What a crafty man.'
I thought, seeing the trick he had played.
"At this point, an idea about what our class will be about should have already formed in your head."
Scanning his students, Cernais waved his hand, making a bunch of rocks forming a word.
"Magic."
It was the word of magic.
"Even though it hadn't even been so long since the lesson started, you had already seen; how a person who knows about magic can catch others off guard, be it a knight or a mage, it doesn't matter."
/CLAP/
With another clap of his hands, the inscription on the air changed.
'Cernais Gentry.'
'The way he is using his magic. It is simple yet pretty insightful.'
'Seeing it in practice will help for sure.'
I thought, seeing the moving rocks that were around.
"Because all of you need the knowledge of magic in whatever occupation you are in. Now, let me introduce myself again."
With his name conjured, he said.
"I, Cernais Gentry, am the instructor of Fundamental of Magic Theory and Applications and a member of Brown Mage Tower. Welcome to my class."
/RING/
As he opened his arms wide and finished his words, a sound of ringing could be heard.
"Today, we will finish with this. You can see our next lesson in your schedule."
"In the next lesson, we will start with the book, as everything related to your course materials has already been delivered to your dorms. It would be better if you checked your first unit before coming to class; even though it is not mandatory, it will increase your chances of learning the subject….. Then, have a nice day."
Saying that he left the classroom, leaving a bunch of students that were surprised to see such a scene.
"Wow, it is the first time I have seen such a lesson before. It was even fun to listen to."
"Yeah…. I never thought I would love to listen to magic lectures. I guess my teacher was boring."
Of course, when magic is mentioned, most of the time, those who didn't incline towards being a mage would not love the topic since it relies on heavy calculations and mathematics and a bunch of other details.
Therefore such a response was pretty normal.
"What do you think?"
Turning her head back, Aliya asked.
"About what?"
"About the lesson."
"It was fine."
"Fine? I think it was quite funny, much better than the teacher that we hired."
"Well, he is certainly talented at active teaching."
"Active teaching? What does it mean?"
"Hmm…. To explain simply, it means making students involved with the topic by using a variety of teaching methods."
"I see…. He certainly is talented at that. I felt like listening to him longer."
"Indeed. His control over his magic is also good."
"He is an instructor….. Ah, right. How did he do that?"
"Do what? That bullet?"
"Yes. I couldn't even sense the mana around him, even though my senses are focused."
As Aliya asked with her hands touching mine, I decided to play it hard.
"You need to figure it out yourself."
"Hey. Just tell me, already."
"If you find it, I will give you a reward."
Of course, as the word reward came out of my mouth, her ears and cheeks slightly got red.
"Really?"
"Yes."
"I see. What is our next lesson?"
She asked while looking at me with a flushed face.
"World's History and general politics."
Checking the schedule tab shown, I said as a response.
"History and politics, huh? I wonder how that is going to be."
"Probably boring."
"Boring since you know everything."
"Indeed."
"Sigh…. Just once, can't you be humble?"
"Why?"
I said while slowly making my mouth near her ears.
"Isn't this why you love me."
And added with a whisper.
/FLINCH/
"Yes."
Squirming as the response, Aliya answered with a dreamy voice.
'This is enough; we are starting to get the attention of others.'
I thought and decided to quit teasing Aliya and directed my attention to the book that I had borrowed from the library.
In the end, even though the classes are not boring, the breaks for sure are.
Just like that, my first lesson in the academy ended, and we proceeded with other lessons.

The final yesterday was 4 hours straight without any breaks, and I didn't have any energy left after it, and it was even hard for me to reach home... I was dead tired.
I don't know if I did good or not since, towards the end, my brain turned marshmallow from all those calculations...
Therefore, there were no chapters yesterday, but you shall not worry.
This author here will supply you with chapters soon.
In any case, since I have another final exam tomorrow, and one on Wednesday, these chapters, for the time being, will mostly contain a bit of a slice of life to show how academic life is because I don't want to mess up with the plot.
I plan to increase the pace of the plot from that point forward.
