Chapter 29: Answer

This was when Kan Chen was talking to Zhang Man.

“Who the heck are you?” Zhang Man stood by the windows, staring straight at the man in front of him.

The man’s appearance was still the same as before but Zhang Man felt like the aura that he was exuding now was now way different. His abilities and skills that he had shown also surprised him.

He had only gone once into the mirror space yet how could he change so much? Was he really that final boss that he’s seen before? Did someone switch him out with someone stronger?

Zhang Man’s heart was filled with doubts.

A hint of surprise flashed across Kan Chen’s eyes but immediately disappeared. “Who do you think I am?”

“I am Kan Chen, the owner of this manor. Don’t you know this yourself very well?” Kan Chen’s face was very composed, not a sign of displeasure from being questioned was seen on his face. “Perhaps, what you really want to know is my other name?”

In the next second, the name that came out of the man’s mouth shocked Zhang Man to his core.

K was a legend.

Since becoming a player, he has never lost a game once. He has successfully cleared high-level game worlds, accumulated millions of points, and defeated many senior players that were ahead of him. He was ranked as the number 1 Overseer…

It wasn’t an exaggeration to say that people who became players idolized K and used him as an inspiration to advance through the game worlds. He even has fanatics who almost saw him as a god and worshipped him like a deity.

Though Zhang Man wasn’t like the latter, he, himself, was envious of K and his achievements.

The difference between a mere player and a high-ranking Overseer was like heaven and earth. The former only needs to complete the game worlds to rake points and satisfy one’s wishes but the latter was an existence capable of making the rules and controlling the game.

The gap was so wide that it was useless to be envious. It gave people no choice but to only look up and admire.

And now, Zhang Man was told that K was standing in front of him now?

Though his heart kept telling him that it was impossible, that it was too good to be true, his intuition was telling him that the man in front him was not lying.

“Then… Why are you here?” Zhang Man hesitated but still asked the question.

Actually, he wanted to ask a lot more questions, but after thinking, he just chose the one he most wanted to know.

According to his impression of the Overseers, don’t they always keep to themselves? No, as Overseers of the game world, do they easily appear in games?

Kan Chen didn’t answer, and a shadow quickly flashed across his eyes. “This isn’t something that you should know.”

His previous, calm expression faded away, and right at the moment, the indifference that belonged to that of an Overseer appeared.

Zhang Man couldn’t help but take a step back. He pushed the glasses on the bridge of his nose and tried to calm himself down. “Fine, I won’t ask again.”

Though he knew the reason for Kan Chen’s sudden change, Zhang Man only felt the burden in his heart getting heavier. He dragged his feet towards the place he came from, and when he had just approached, he heard the phrase—

“I like Kan Chen?”

His heart has even yet to calm down after hearing such a big revelation. However, here he was, hearing the little rookie’s surprising yet powerful statement. The corners of Zhang Man’s mouth couldn’t help but twitch up.

He was tempted to ask: Chang An, do you have any idea who this person you like is?

How do I tell him? He felt that the relationship between the two was so complicated. Before he even knew that the man was ‘K’, he was already not pumped up about the relationship between Kan Chen and Chang An.

After all, their positions were from the opposite sides: A player and a boss. The player will have to eventually leave after the game ends, so what will happen then?

However, at that time, though he knew that Kan Chen had already fallen in too deep, he realized that Chang An was still ignorant of his feelings. If they didn’t date, at least the emotional damage wouldn’t be so serious, right?

But now that he heard the rookie’s confession, he couldn’t help but worry again. For no other reason than that the difference in status between the two was just too great. If Kan Chen was an ordinary player, Zhang Man wouldn’t care much.

After all, players who ended up dating each other were not uncommon. Sometimes, they even give birth to a child, producing the second generation of players. These players enjoyed the resources that their parents had gathered. To them, playing games was as easy as playing house.

The problem was Kan Chen was no ordinary player! He was an Overseer!

Overseers treated players as how players treated an NPC. They don’t consider them as their own kind. Though Overseers once used to be players, after becoming Overseers, their emotions fluctuate and disappear day after day in the higher dimensional space.

He just wanted to say something when he felt a black shadow swiftly sweep by his side, and in just a blink of an eye, Kan Chen was already standing in front of the young man.

“Do you mean that?” The tone of his voice showed his unconcealed eagerness and expectation.

Zhang Man’s heart suddenly settled down. He was in no hurry to go forward, but stood not far away, looking at them quietly.

“You, you heard?!” Xia Nuo immediately became flustered.

“Yes, I did.” Kan Chen pursed his lips and took a step forward, completely enveloping the young man in his tall shadow, “So, what’s your answer?”

“I…” Xia Nou frowned. The man’s aggressive aura lingered around him, making it almost impossible for him to think.

He turned his head to look at the puppet beside him to ask for help but what he got instead was a cheer, which made him even more flustered.

Seeing that the young man remained silent, Kan Chen could only sigh while looking at the worried Xia Nuo. He almost was about to say the words ‘Forget it’.

He still hasn’t realized his feelings yet, Kan Chen thought. He didn’t have the heart to make things difficult for him.

However, Xia Nuo decided to answer him. He said, “I was wrong.”

He said that to Xiao Yi. As soon as Xiao Yi heard those words, its heart almost stopped.

What’s going on? This isn’t what we talked about earlier, ah? Isn’t this supposed to end in a happy ending? Why did brother Xia Nuo say those words all of a sudden?

Kan Chen’s body froze after hearing Xia Nuo’s reply, almost losing his breath. That kind of reply, it was obviously not the kind that he wanted to hear.

Zhang Man’s heart jumped up as well when he saw the expression on Kan Chen’s face.

Surely, Kan Chen wouldn’t hurt the little rookie after being rejected, right?

He looked at the rookie who was still looking oblivious to everyone’s feelings.

Xia Nuo didn’t see the frightened expressions of Xiao Yi and Zhang Man. He said seriously, “I was wrong. I shouldn’t have said before that Kan Chen and I were just friends. I’m taking that back.”

Eh?

Xiao Yi quickly asked him, “Then what?”

“I’ve thought about it seriously,” Gone was the flustered appearance of Xia Nuo. As if he had finally found the answer to a century-old problem, his whole body became relaxed. “I’ve had friends before, but I don’t feel the same way about them with Kan Chen.

“I don’t blush when they are near me, nor do I trust them wholeheartedly. If someone told me that one of my friends liked me, I wouldn’t feel comfortable either,” Xia Nuo’s cheeks turned scarlet from frankly saying everything that was on his mind. However, even though he was embarrassed, he continued. “I don’t know when it began, but I know that Kan Chen has already occupied a space in my heart.

“An important space, different from that of my friends and family.”

His voice was soft and low, but it was filled with a determination that was hard to doubt.

“Now, I can give you my answer,” Xia Nuo turned to Kan Chen, who was stunned after hearing him say ‘I don’t feel the same way about them with Kan Chen’.

How the tables have turned.

Though he hasn’t heard the answer yet, he already had a clue about what he was going to say.

Kan Chen heard the loud beating of his heart, which had remained cold and dead for a long time. Blood rushed into his head, creating a pleasant, silent noise. At this moment, the world seemed to have become so quiet.

The leaves swept by the wind stopped swaying, insects hopping on the grass stopped chirping, deers walking through the forest stopped to wait. Every creature that was listening waited for the young man to say his answer.

“I realized, I like you.”

The sky, which had long been obscured by dark clouds, suddenly cleared. The sun penetrated the clouds and sprinkled the light all over the ground.
