Chapter 32

The enchantment rooms are small, private spaces that the guild provides for enchanters to use. Renting one costs ten copper coins per hour, equivalent to about 10 dollars. It includes a big table, lighting, and other essential equipment. It may seem expensive at first, but after considering all the utilities of the rooms, it turns out to be quite reasonable.

I walk up to the table, see two big, old books, their pages yellowed with age and tattered.

Complete Guide to Enchantment – This book is like the Wikipedia of Enchantment art. I already have its contents memorized, so I don’t need it.

The second book, Enchantment Codex, is much more special, because this is where the ‘codes’ lie. Basically, enchanters are just fantasy programmers, so of course they ‘copy and paste’. If the ‘Complete Guide’ is the Wiki, then this one is Github, containing thousands of different enchantment ‘blueprints’. Memorizing every enchantment is nearly impossible, so this book is a crucial reference for any enchanter. However, I already have a digital version of this one too, so neither book is necessary for me.

“Sophia, can you please show me the enchantment process? I want to see.”

I ask Sophia because as I remember, she has Enchantment Crafting level 6. She’s an enchanter.

“Sure! Which enchantment do you want me to do first?” Sophia replies.

“Let’s start with Sharpness,” I say.

I then take out a simple dagger that I bought for ten copper coins. It’s just a basic weapon with nothing special about it, but it's perfect for beginner enchanters to practice on. I give it to Sophia, and she places it under the appraisal lens. This device consists of multiple lenses that are enchanted with two different enchantments - magnifying vision and item appraisal. It is commonly used by enchanters to evaluate items.

Sophia takes a look first, adjusts the lens, then it’s my turn.

As I look through the device, a table of text appears in my vision.

[Steel dagger]

Weapon Rating: 24

Weight: 512 grams

Attributes:

Sharpness: 10 Durability: 144/145

Special Ability:

None

Enchantment

None Enchantment points: 26

“Do you see it? Do you want me to go over the basics of enchantment items?” Sophia asks.

“Yes, I can see. But there’s no need to explain basic stuff for me. I’ve already memorized them from the books that I read,” I reply.

“Right, I forgot. You mentioned that last night,” Sophia says. “But to think you can memorize that much information in such a short amount of time… I still can’t believe it.”

I still haven’t told Sophia yet about my three AI sitting inside my brain, because she doesn’t need to know.

“Well, if I can’t even do something as trivial as that, then how can I even find my sister?”

“I see…” she murmurs in response.

But back to enchantment. As the dagger’s status is fully displayed, I focus on the two most important things: item's rating and enchantment points. The higher the rating, the more powerful the item is. This dagger's rating is only 24, so it’s not particularly strong. The enchantment point is 26, so the number of enchantments we can put on it will be very limited. Still, I'm very curious to see how much it will improve.

“Sophia, you may begin now.” I say, taking out the ink and pen.

“Wait! If you already know all the basics, do you even need me to teach you now?”

“Of course! All I know is the theory part. I still need to learn the practical part, you know?”

“Oh! That makes sense,” Sophia exclaims, her eyes instantly light up. “Then watch closely! As a master enchanter, I will show you the proper way of enchanting an item!”

“Yes, you’re the teacher now!”

“Alright,” Sophia dips the pen in ink. And then, “Enchantment Sight, activate!”

As she says the word, her eyes glow faintly, her pupils dilate.

Meanwhile, I activate my UV sight too. The world fades to black and white, the ink glows once more.

And then, Sophia starts, holding her breath and writing the first enchantment letter on the dagger. She’s now evoking the true language of gods - Arcanum.
