He was just one step away from the 333rd step. Now, it felt like he was one world apart.

Releasing a heavy sigh of regret, Whittaker closed his eyes. Maybe his life was just a step apart from death as his Azure-Sky equipment runic effect ended; however, there was not a single trace of the Death force in this area. Not just that, there wasn't even a single trace of mana or any kind of mana pressure in the 332nd step.

Releasing a breath of relief, snowy eyelashes fluttered as Whittaker's crystal icy eyes opened wide to instantly perceive his surrounding. He didn't have mana to use his Devansha eyes, hence he had to manually move his body to look at each side of the 332nd step. His body rotated in a circular motion, following which his eyes scrutinized the entire surroundings. In a single second, he has glimpsed at each side of this place.

The first impression he got was that this step seemed far out of place. The 332nd step was far different than the other steps. The marbled surface of the 332nd step has cracks all over its surface as if something really heavy has smashed on it. At the front and backside, there was a bluish mana wall formation, separating him from the entire world. Above him was an inky, black holographic screen that was tinted with tens of thousands of white dots. With a glimpse, Whittaker memorized what was above. It seemed like something useless that might turn out to be useful, later on.

At his right, he could see the skeleton of a teenage boy dressed in a simple red robe. The skeleton was sitting cross-legged on the cracked marble ground while clenching something tightly in his right hand. That something released a faint red glow which attracted Whittaker intensely.

"I might as well check it out." Whittaker wanted to examine the thing in the skeleton hand as there was nothing else to do.

He walked up to the skeleton while an unpleasant feeling crept up his heart; However, he still opened the fingers of the bony hands–one by one–after reaching the skeleton. This was his first time touching a skeleton and he really didn't like this. The fingers were jade-like and rusty, a weird combination.

The thing held in the right hand of the skeleton was a Scarlet-Jaded tablet that was releasing warm energy. When Whittaker gazed at it, a system notification popped up.

[Zen Mountain Jaded Pass (High-tier) (Rankless)

Status: Bounded to Edward Agni–Disciple of Monk Agni and the core disciple of the Zen mountain located in the land of flames.

Effect: A mystical tablet which allows Edward Agni to freely move between the mortal world and the flame elemental world. By using this card, a spatial portal connecting to the Zen mountain realm can also be opened with a single thought. This pass can be even used to escape the Heaven-Reaching trial or from within a high-ranking enclosing formation. Only Edward Agni can use this pass]

The mortal world could be described as the seven lands of the awakened continent while Whittaker didn't know anything about the flame elemental world or the Zen mountain realm. There were three Zen Mountains in the awakened continent. Each one was hidden inside a realm hidden from the sights of mortals and awakens with the help of a mystical formation. Even the emperors of the seven Kingdom couldn't locate the entrance to the Zen mountain.

A person can only enter the Zen mountain if he possesses the "Zen blessing mark" or the "Zen jaded Pass" otherwise, no one can simply enter the Zen mountain. Moreover, it was extremely hard, nearly impossible to locate the entrance of the Zen Mountain.

However, every ten years, experts of the Zen mountain will descend to the seven lands to recruit people with good potential or a lot of patience. It is also said that if a person is fated then he will locate the Zen mountain while simply walking through a forest.

As Whittaker finished with his investigation, a nerve-calming melody played along with an announcement that explained what Whittaker has to face.

‹Congratulations on reaching the 332nd step part of the first level of the heaven-reaching trial. One more step and the challenger will complete Zachary's inheritance trial, becoming the inheritor to the treasures stored in his treasury, Zachary's palace, and his knowledge!›

Whittaker's mouth salivated as he finally realized what becoming an inheritor really meant. He wasn't getting a part of Elder Zachary's treasure instead, he was getting everything that Elder Zachary has earned in his entire life. This was the meaning of becoming a "Sole Inheritor". This was the reason why many awakened, young and old, have come to Zachary's palace to become his inheritor; However, they have all died because of overestimating their abilities.

‹There are only two things the Challenger has to do to pass the challenges of the 332nd step. The first challenge is to remain alive for one minute. After one minute, the mana wall formation will disappear. The second challenge is to step on the 333rd step of the heaven-reaching staircase. However, the challenger will be facing 100% mana pressure of the heaven-reaching trial throughout the challenge›

‹Tip: The closer you are to the 333rd step of the heaven-reaching staircase the more advantageous your situation will be!›

‹The Challenge of the 332nd step will start in 1 minute!›

The very first time when Whittaker examined this place, he was certain that something heavy has crashed on the marbled floor. It was an easy judgment to make. The marbled floor was cracked all over, after all. However, being told that it was 100% of the mana pressure that crashed on the marbled floor and will soon crash on him gave him chills along with the worst fright of his life.

'I was barely holding on under 33% of the total mana pressure. Now, I need to withstand 100% of it! What a joke!' This was a death sentence rather than a challenge.
