The students weren't impressed by the spell Ruka just cast. Mana-shield was a low-key Pure-mana spell and it didn't even have a cinematic effect, only a bird chirping sound. Children love flashy moves but this was simply too plain and failed to attract their attention. Some didn't even want to learn this move.

Whittaker thought otherwise. He will learn this spell because it had many uses defined in simple words. It will protect him from harm and also save his life!

The Students of class 1-D had different reactions to Mana-shield.

Being the sweet woman she is, Ruka smiled and didn't patronize her words. She wanted the students to make a decision about this matter on their own.

She continued with the last topic. "With that said, Let's learn about Class weapons!"

Peter, the green-haired student stood up from his seat, and She looked at him,

"Miss, I know about Class weapons and their properties. Can I please leave? I have made an appointment with my friends to go to the wilderness, today. They are waiting for my arrival at the Academy's Quest Hall. If I don't go right now then they will go hunting monster without me. Please!"

'Quest Hall?' Whittaker's ears perk up in attention. The Quest Hall sounds like a legit name and it might be the way to earn that he was looking for. He thought, 'After class, I must check it out.'

"Well, Sure, since you already know about Class weapon I won't force you to remain in the classroom. Go, good luck on hunting beasts, and be careful. Don't get hurt!" Ruka replied with a graceful smile and wished him well.

All of the Academy promoted battles. Battling was the fastest way for a student to grow stronger. That's why most teachers encourage every student to start fighting monsters and beasts or spar with fellow students as early as possible.

After Peter went away, she continued her lesson, and her expression was the same the entire time. It was a sweet smiley face as she had a lot of interest in this topic. This was the most interesting topic about mages.

"As you all know the Class weapon of a mage is Spellbook, so we will talk about it. A mage Spellbook has a lot of functions.

"The most basic function of a Spellbook is to convert Pure Mana into elemental attribute mana pretty quickly. This allows a mage to cast Elemental spells.

"Spellbook also generates an elemental version of Pure-mana spell that a mage manages to grasp in the form of a page. There are two ways to cast these elemental spells. The first one is the Somatic method."

"Any students who know the second method can stand up and state it."

Whittaker knew it as he had already utilized the second method but he didn't know the name.

"Here," Lily stood up. Many others also wanted to stand but Charlotte shot them down with her menacing gaze. They did not dare to defy her.

"Well, you can answer it, Lily Carter," Ruka said.

After glancing at Whittaker, who was looking at her, Lily blushed and continued, "Yes, there are two ways to use Elemental magic. The first one is Somatic and the second one is Verbal, a spoken incantation.

"By calling out the name of the elemental spell written on the page of a spellbook, a mage can cast an elemental spell." Realizing that she had made a blunder, she corrected herself, "More specifically, a mage commands the spellbook to cast the spell. The spellbook will absorb appropriate mana present in the mage body and release an elemental spell. It's the easiest method among the two, and most mages only use this method to use Elemental spells."

"That's right, Good work!" Ruka praised Lily, who sat down after glimpsing at Whittaker one more time. Her looks didn't escape the eyes of Ruka. She understood that Lily was trying to impress Whittaker.

Whittaker didn't understand what Lily was trying to do and he was weirded out by her glances. He thought, 'Is she planning something against me? I should try to avoid her!'

"As Lily said, the verbal method is far easier when compared to the Somatic method. It's because the hand signs of elemental spells are ten to twenty times more complex than Pure-mana spells. But a mage can cast elemental spells himself if he learns the somatic method." Ruka detailly explained.

The snow-haired boy thought, 'Somatic method is so easy to learn. What's the difficulty in memorizing hand signs? I will master both.'

Most of the students wanted the easy way out. So they decided to use the verbal method.

Due to intently listening to what Ruka and Lily had said with full attention, Whittaker and the other students now had essential knowledge of Spellbook.

Ruka continued explaining about the class timing and stuff.

"The class will be held from seven to ten every day. Well, it will only be three days a week. The class for the next three months will only focus on the basic hand signs and Pure-mana spells. It's up to the students if he wants to attend the class or not. A competition will be held after three months and all students must join."

Just as she finished saying that, a pleasant melody resounded. Whittaker felt refreshed as he listened to the melody, this was a magical melody.

Hearing that melody, Ruka announced, "This melody signifies that the class is over. Follow me if you want to, I will take you guys on a tour around the Academy ground!"

Whittaker, Ruth, Lily, Charlotte, Yato, and three others followed Ruka while the rest of the students went on their way.

Whittaker, Ruth, and Yato didn't know much about the Academy. That's why they followed teacher Ruka. Lily wanted to stalk Whittaker and Charlotte wanted to accompany her best friend.

While the other three students joined in on the tour so that they can stare at the wonderful back view of teacher Ruka.
