Chapter 19: Expectations (2)

Lin Zhao Xi felt a strong headache, and suddenly remembered why she pushed the head teacher’s son to the ground. Because he said she wouldn’t pass the exam.

The full names of the exams were — Jinjiang Cup Elementary School Mathematical Olympiad and the Anning District Summer Camp Selection.

The name was very long, but the only words that mattered were “Olympiad” and “Summer Camp”.

The dean always expected her to be admitted to the Olympiad Summer Camp. If you got admission to the summer camp, you would be eligible to participate in the Jinjiang Cup Olympiad.

Bagging a place in the competition could guarantee a good junior high school, and meant that her life would be completely different from that of the other orphans.

So what did she do wrong? Thinking about it, the dean must have been disappointed because Zhaoxi was supposed to be everyone’s role model, but she let them down.

The dean went a little too far, thought Lin Zhao Xi. The burden on little Zhaoxi’s shoulder was too heavy.

But in Lin Aimin’s adoring eyes, there was a lot of longing, which the 22-year-old Lin Zhaoxi hadn’t seen for a long time.

Life is so long, there are infinite possibilities.

Realizing her situation, she added another bit to that thought.

— Even if it’s a life with a bad start, there will still be infinite possibilities.

After eating the last buns, Lin Zhao Xi took Lin Aimin’s hand and left the dean’s office. When turning off the table lamp, she glanced at the wall of certificates again.

Outside the window was a dark night…

Why am I here?

In the morning.

Lin Zhao Xi still hadn’t figured it out. Of course, to be specific, she hadn’t really thought about it, because after returning to the dormitory, she read two stories to Lin Aimin and two other children and then headed to bed.

In the morning, half-asleep, half-awake, she thought about how she had to write two more pages for the internship report, and how Xiao Liu didn’t reply to her WeChat messages yet. Right then, she was startled by the wake-up bell.

In a daze, and shocked, her first reaction was to question why she was hearing the school bell at home. Then she realized that she was no longer at home.

The rooms in the orphanage weren’t big. Little Zhaoxi used to share the room with a girl younger than her, but recently the girl had recently been adopted and now she was alone.

Jumping off the small wooden bed, Lin Zhao Xi opened the pink curtains. The children’s playground in the courtyard was bathed in sunlight, and the flowers and plants were lush.

She gazed for a while before she completely awoke.

After becoming an orphan, the everyday routine was engraved in Little Zhaoxi’s body. After getting up, she folded the quilt, went to the room next door to help the younger children get dressed, holding one with her left hand and another with her right, and took them to the cafeteria for breakfast.

In the orphanage’s small cafeteria, she met Mother Lin, who was busy serving the children, and the powerful Auntie, who took her to the dean yesterday.

Mother Lin didn’t have time to lecture her, so she just rubbed her head and told her to finish eating quickly so she could head to her Olympiad class.

Isn’t today Saturday? Thought Lin Zhao Xi, and immediately remembered that schools were allowed to provide classes for supplementary schooling. These days, every school had extra-curricular classes on weekends.

However, the Math Olympiad Class wasn’t just an extra-curricular class. It was a class that the school prioritized. The biggest difference was that there was no need to pay for the Olympiad classes. Red Star Primary School wanted to focus on training groups of students, hoping that one day a student would enter the summer camp and win glory for the school.

Lin Zhao Xi sat in front of a window. Thinking of the Olympics reminded her of Old Lin and Pei Zhi.

Old Lin was the one who sent her to the Olympiad classes, and Pei Zhi was the one she could never catch up with.

Now…

She’ll have to conquer Red Star Elementary School by herself?!
