Lin Zhao Xi’s pencil hovered over the last question before she wrote down the last answer. She then flipped her paper to the first page and quickly checked her answers. She immediately stood up once she finished checking her answer and started walking to the front desk. The time was 11:48, which meant she had two extra minutes to walk down the stairs.

“Finished?” Xie Ran, who was sitting at the front desk, was shocked to see Lin Zhao Xi.

“Mn.”

Xie Ran read through her test papers and pointed out three unanswered questions, “You still have three questions left.”

“There’s no time left.” Lin Zhao Xi replied briefly. She then headed to the door and remembering something, she turned her head to say, “You should come downstairs with me and make sure I won’t cheat.”

Xie Ran looked at her and thought.
How can children these days be so clever?
He placed down her test papers and simply said, “Let’s go.”

When they left, there was a slight commotion in the classroom. However, Lin Zhao Xi put her hands in her pocket and ran down the stairs.

Xie Ran followed her closely. By the time they had gone down two floors, he couldn’t help anymore and ask, “Why are you sacrificing yourself for the others? If you leave the three questions blank, you have a chance to be eliminated!”

“I won’t.”

“Why not?!” Xie Ran grabbed her arm.

“Because I know that all my answers are correct.” Lin Zhao Xi replied.

“F*ck, are you even an elementary school student?” Xie Ran shouted, “Why are you so confident?”

“The confident one is down there.” Lin Zhao Xi signaled towards the bottom of the stairs with her feet.

The one downstairs probably only needed half of the time she spent to complete all the questions. However, it’s not that Lin Zhao Xi cared or anything.

Pei Zhi sat on the landing of the stairs with his cap lowered. He looked bored and peaceful; his eyes were closed as if he was taking a nap.

In front of him were piles of luggage and backpacks of different sizes, piled up like a garbage dump.

There was a forest and a lake in the distance, making the scenery seem more serene. When he heard the steps coming close, the boy slowly stood up and looked behind him.

Lin Zhao Xi waved at Pei Zhi, but he simply nodded, picked up his bags, and then walked up the stairs.

Even if Pei Zhi hadn’t spoken back to her, Lin Zhao Xi still felt relieved.

“Hey!” Xie Ran’s eyes fell on Pei Zhi’s light backpack and said, “If you’re carrying something so light, why were you helping others look after their things? Are all elementary students heroes now?”

Pei Zhi raised his head. He looked at the narrow hallway and turned to look at all the luggage on the floor before finally looking at Xie Ran. He simply said, “I don’t think it’s safe carrying something so heavy up the stairs.”

The main reason that Lin Zhao Xi readily accepted Pei Zhi’s idea was that she was physically weak. She similarly thought that it would be too tiring and could result in potential safety hazards.

She didn’t say anything because it was too embarrassing. However, when Pei Zhi was the one who said it, it sounded reasonable and persuasive.

Pei Zhi continued to climb up the stairs; no matter how many times Xie Ran called him, he didn’t turn around.

Lin Zhao Xi looked at his figure fading away into the dark corridor. It reminded her of a scene with him a few years ago.

That time, Pei Zhi patiently gave a lecture to a class before calmly leaving the room. Lin Zhao Xi watched him fade into a dark corridor while his hands were covered with chalk. That was the first time that Lin Zhao Xi paid attention to Pei Zhi and came to admire him.

She felt delighted yet a bit regretful.

Now when she looked at the back of Pei Zhi, she could only sigh and think to herself.
So you’re only this young?

When she was signing, Pei Zhi stopped at the corner and looked at them as if remembering something.

“What’s your name?” Pei Zhi asked

“Me?” Lin Zhao Xi pointed at herself; she felt excited that Pei Zhi was paying attention to her but also a bit disappointed since he didn’t remember her name.

Pei Zhi shook his head, his gaze directed at Xie Ran.

Xie Ran was stunned; he felt as if he was talking to his boss.

“Xie Ran.” He subconsciously replied.

“I see.” Pei Zhi nodded before continuing to walk up the stairs.

“Why is he asking for my name? He even replied with an ‘I see.’” Xie Ran was confused. “He won’t attack me in the middle of the night, right?”

“That probably won’t happen.” Lin Zhao Xi looked at Xie Ran and thought,

Besides, you’re a College Student…

At the top of the stairs, Pei Zhi finally disappeared around the corner.

Lin Zhao Xi assumed that Pei Zhi was just trying to scare this teacher as payback, and she thought it was cute.

But….. Does he know my name?

She wondered.
