Chapter 289 – The Adoption Story (3)

At the royal residence of the Marquise Van Dyne, Aeris’s parents’ home, Tauro briefly met with his friends for the first time in a long time, and they decided to discuss the adoption.

“I would like you to know a lot of things about Count Graunewald, but I’ve got officials waiting in the next room to take care of the formalities. Let’s get the formalities over with as soon as possible.”

Marquis Van Dyne said to quiet Count Graunewald, who seemed to want to talk about various things, and then he looked at the servants and nodded, signaling to them that they were ready.

A man wearing the uniform of a government official entered the room where Tauro and the others were.

The official nodded to the Marquis Van Dyne, who immediately laid out the documents on his desk and urged Tauro to sign them.

The papers were already signed by Count Graunewald.

The guardian’s place, of course, was signed by the Marquis Van Dyne.

“Please sign here, here, and then here, and also here. Also, this is a document certifying that you have reaffirmed your relationship with your previously formally disassociated blood relatives, and that you have disassociated yourself from them!”

The official explains carefully.

Tauro nodded at the explanation and signed the stack of papers one after another.

“… yes. …… this is good. …… everything seems to be fine. Thank you for your hard work. Now all that is left is for me to take the documents back and complete the paperwork. Then I will hurry up and go home. Marquis Van Dyne, Count Graunewald, I will visit you again at a later date.”

The official said his greetings, got into the carriage prepared by the Marquis, and returned to the government office.

"... With this, the formalities are over. Now that the paperwork is officially over, Tauro-kun will be adopted by count Graunewald. ──Congratulations, Count."

The Marquis then shook Count Graunewald’s hand.

“Thank you, Marquis Van Dyne ......! Sorry about everything.─  Tauro-kun, as soon as I receive your formal consent, I will immediately file a damage report regarding Viscount Saissi’s, and will pursue his guilt along with the evidence the Prime Minister’s faction has. Until then, I hope you’re still hiding somewhere safe.”

Count Graunewald thanked Marquis Van Dyne, then turned to Tauro and said with a smile.

“Yes, thank you. I am sorry for all the trouble you have gone through for me.”

Tauro apologized to his near-future documented father.

“No, as I said before, we are both fans of yours. It’s a pleasure to be your parent, even if it’s only on paper. Oh, it’s still too soon to tell. Ha ha!”

Count Graunewald replied.

“…… huh. With this, the leader will soon be a nobleman, huh? What are we going to do now, Ragune?”

Ankh watched the exchange between Tauro and Count Graunewald, and then he let slip to Ragune,

“What do you mean? Tauro and Aeris are still friends. Besides, they are friends who have made a blood pact. That relationship will never change for me.”

Ragune’s answer was clear and without hesitation.

“Haha. I don’t dislike that about Ragune, either. I wonder what's wrong with me. ......"

Impressed by Ragune's straightforward answer, Ankh pondered his own departure.

“Normally, I would like the Count and Tauro-kun to talk about a lot of things, but it seems that my daughter also talked to Tauro-kun, so, Count, is it okay if we wait until after the adoption is official?"

The Marquis looks at his daughter Aeris and confirms it to Count Graunewald.

“Ha-ha-ha, of course. It may be temporary, but I will wait as many years as it takes to adopt Tauro-kun.”

Count Graunewald heartily agreed to Marquis Van Dyne’s words, and the two of them left the room.

“I’m sorry once again for the trouble I’ve caused you all. Aeris has done a lot of thinking and work for this, and I appreciate it."

“It's okay. I've always been indebted to Tauro. I thought I needed to be independent too, so this was a good opportunity for me.”

“Independent?”

Yes. I thought I should be able to do everything by myself, instead of depending on Tauro all the time. …… I was the leader of the “Black Golden Wings” while Tauro was away, you know? Ragune and Ankh kept helping me out, but I think I’m slowly moving forward.”

"Certainly, Aeris has visibly grown since we haven't seen each other for a while. Has she grown taller too?"

Tauro made a gesture as if he were comparing her height with his own.

“You’ve grown taller too, Tauro. And you haven’t changed much in this short period of time.──That’s right. What have you been doing over there?  we did a lot of quests in the D rank zone, too, you know? It’s been a while, and I’m sure the assassination guild won’t notice you in the house, so tell me. The four of us have a lot to talk about today!”

Aeris suggested the four of them spending time together for the first time in a while.
