Chapter 332: Corpses all over the ground

Nearly a hundred bandits had been forever halted on their charge in just the blink of an eye, thanks to the bombardment of two war chariots, five ballistae, and three stone-throwing catapults.

The smoke of explosives churned and surged above the battlefield, Fass’ insane roaring carrying throughout all of this, “Mages! Push the mages’ tower forward! Launch the ballistae! Be quick about it!”

As Fass hollered and yelled, the bandits beneath the tower pushed with all their might towards Brettel City. The ballistae that the bandits had transported were quickly brought up from the rear. There were several bandits in front of each ballista that were on guard with iron shields in hand to force open a path.

The war chariots were still spitting fiery flames. Stone-throwing catapults drew beautiful arcs across the sky before smashing the ground with terrifying, earth-shattering rumbling sounds. Blood splashed and severed body parts flew about after the impact. Six bolts whizzed out with each shot to reap cheap lives like cold, fatal blades.

The path that was five hundred meters in front of Brettel City had turned into a hell on earth. The bandits who were able to charge all the way through were immediately attacked by fierce firepower. Anyone hit by the barrage had no chance to make it out alive.

“Spread out, spread out already! You damned stupid fools! How many time have I said this?!” Fass was shouting rather hysterically. Unfortunately, it was muffled by the rumbling of the war chariots. Only the row of bandits behind him could hear his words.

The Greenfire Bandits had six thousand members total. Fass certainly hadn’t planned to committing all of his forces in one go. The bandits, who’d come to attack Brettel City, were definitely not the true elites of the Greenfire Bandits.

Fass had only roughly a thousand trusted followers when he’d left the Narsen Duchy. Afterwards, the number of members had slowly increased to the current size during their raids. Those who were first charging towards Brettel City were the underlings that were newly recruited. Fass wasn’t quite satisfied with their strength. Their combat ability was also the weakest in Greenfire.

This was the case in every attempted siege, cannon fodder was always the first to be sent out. In Fass’ heart, these two thousand underlings were only akin to cannon fodder. As long as there were enough gold coins, he never had to worry about not being able to recruit more lackeys amidst the never-ending chaos surrounding the seven grand duchies. According to Fass’ thoughts, these two thousand underlings should be enough to bring down Brettel City.

What quite surprised Fass was Brettel City’s defensive ability. He’d originally thought he’d face the bombardment of the magic crystal cannons, yet he’d unexpectedly seen no sign of them and instead, had discovered other defensive equipments. This kinds of defensive equipment were all the most classic. Once they started their lethal spray from the tall city walls, they were all life-reaping machines.

Two thousand bandits were approaching Brettel City step by step beneath the massive rumbling sounds of the bombardment from artillery and missiles. After paying the price in four hundred more deaths, a portion of the bandits reached the city wall. Wooden ladders were even set up against the city wall amidst the heavy bombardments.

“Faster! Fill the bolts and load the goblin explosives into the war chariots!” Han Shuo’s expression was indifferent, but the speed of his speech was extremely fast as he yelled orders to the soldiers around him to quickly load the equipment.

These soldiers had just become familiar with the war chariots and ballistae. They only grasped the way to use war chariots, ballistae, and catapults after intense drilling from Faulke over several days and nights. However, they weren’t too skilled, especially during the raucous and chaotic battle. All the gory action affected the speed at which these soldiers operated the equipment.

Kaka… kaka…

A strange noise suddenly resounded nearby. Han Shuo looked around, puzzled, when suddenly saw little Fatty Jack. The latter’s lips were trembling, his two rows of teeth clacking together to create that noise.

Little Fatty Jack stood beside Han Shuo as he looked into the distance where flesh and blood flew all over the battlefield. He saw boulders smash bodies into a blurry meat paste. He witnessed limbs flying from the explosions created by the war chariots. He also noted the nailed bandits flying by with the frenzied storm of bolts. He couldn’t restrain his trembling.

“Wuu wuu, this is too terrible!” The little fatty’s voice was a bit muffled, his small eyes bloodshot. He cried out involuntarily with trembling lips, his entire being caught in a strange, dull state of helplessness.

“Ready! Pour down the oil!” Han Shuo flicked his eyes at Jack. He didn’t say a word upon seeing the latter was still next to him. Instead, he loudly shouted to the soldiers around him.

Han Shuo had already known before the battle began that little fatty Jack, having never experienced such a scene, would definitely be frightened by the cruelty of war. Jack’s expression of terror was within Han Shuo’s expectations, so he wasn’t the least bit surprised.

The Demonslayer Edge was devouring the souls of the dead and suddenly shot towards the scorching sun from the back of Han Shuo’s neck. It startled forcefully absorbing souls from the wailing cacophony of agony and despair from the battlefield at an angle in the sky that no one could see it from.

Whoosh whoosh whoosh!

The bandits finally fired their ballistae. Bolts flew at extreme speed to furiously assault the Brettel City wall. The actions of the soldiers controlling war chariots and stone-throwing catapults became a bit frantic. Some of the soldiers aiming downwards with their bows were immediately killed.

A bolt whizzed fiercely over with a whistling sound, aiming straight at little Fatty Jack, who was leaning against the wall and watching the tragic scene below. When he heard the screeching whistle, Jack was scared witless as he screamed raspily, “Bryan, save me!”

Han Shuo reached out with his left hand. Bloody lights shot out from his five fingers like he’d suddenly grown sharp claws. When that bolt was only roughly ten meters away from Jack, the bloody light from Han Shuo’s five fingers crunched down on it and ground it into wood dust.

“Step back, don’t stand too close to the edge of the city wall!” Han Shuo shouted lightly, waving his right hand and sending the shield of a fallen soldier abruptly crashing down in front of Jack, covering most of his plump body.

Creaking sounds suddenly fell into Han Shuo’s ears. At the same time, the lengthy chanting of magic incantation resounded. Surges of weak and strong magic undulations gradually converged in the distance. Several mages had begun to chant the magic spells of their respective elements on the slowly approaching tower, which the bandits were guarding with shields.

“I’ve been waiting for you to arrive!” Han Shuo said coldly and derisively. As a thought flashed through his mind, a bloody halo dropped from the heavens.

The Demonslayer Edge was deploying “Bloody Radiance of Ten Thousand Cuts” under Han Shuo’s guidance. The Demonslayer Edge, looking only a little longer than a dagger, spun at an extremely fast speed as it descended. The weapon shot out a knife-sharp bloody light with each rotation.

The trail of the Demonslayer Edge gradually blurred from the rapid rotation of its descent. In contrast, slivers of bloody light slowly coalesced brilliantly. Thousands of blades swirled into an orb of knives, from which the crimson light spewed out messily onto the mages on the tower below.

The Demonslayer Edge was spinning very quickly, constantly discharging dense, sharp blades of red light. These lights crisscrossed with each other without encountering any obstacles as they rapidly flew in wide arcs.

The scene looked like a small, disc-sized sun from afar, except that this sun was full of sharp, rotating barbs of bloody light. As the bloody disc continued its descent, its rotating speed also became exponentially faster. It brought with it a thick surge of killing intent even before it completely landed, giving rise to terror in people’s heart.

The dazzling orb of slashing light landed in the midst of the mages on the tower. This tower was protected by iron shields, as well as defensive magic barriers set up by various types of mages. All of the defenses were instantly decimated upon being hit by the bloody blades of light in their rotation. Mangled flesh and blood from the fragile mages and gleaming armor from the bandits sprayed in a glorious, resplendent dance, accompanied by creaking sounds.

No one on the tower had the strength to do anything in the face of Han Shuo’s “Bloody Radiance of Ten Thousand Cuts”.

The Demonslayer Edge had transformed into ten thousand bloody rays. All of the humans, wooden structure, and iron shields were vaporized in an instant. Fass had spent a great deal of money to form this team of bandit mages, and now, they were all crushed and their gory remains were launched in all directions by this meat grinder.

Having been injected with thirty percent of his magical yuan, one strike of the “Bloody Radiance of Ten Thousand Cuts” didn’t stop after shredding through all of those people and the tower. It continued in the form of an enormous, blood red, spinning cactus and continually hurled blades of bloody light at the bandits protecting the tower. The Demonslayer Edge’s “Bloody Radiance of Ten Thousand Cuts” raised a storm of blood in every direction of its unhindered path. All was destroyed, be it human, ballistae, or sturdy shields.

An unnaturally beautiful red drizzle of blood rained down. None out of a hundred bandit corpses were whole after the Demonslayer Edge made a circle, leave no piece of meat larger than an ear to be found. Since even iron shields couldn’t defend against the Demonslayer Edge, bones were minced to dust all the same.

“Damn it! Where is the tower? Where are the mages?” Fass had focused his attention on the Brettel City wall, so he didn’t see the changes affecting the tower. He only discovered that the tower was gone and asked a bit suspiciously when the blood-red light orb shot towards him.

“Dead, all dead! It was that thing! It was all because of that thing!!” A bandit dedicated to his duty next to Fass involuntarily screamed out with intense fear as he pointed towards the blood orb that had obliterated everything.

Amidst these ear-piercing, frightened screams, more and more wails rang out. They belonged to the bandits who’d been approached by the drifting blood orb. All of them desperately attempted to dodge by rolling and jumping. However, every bandit that was touched by the blood orb instantly turned into a rain of mangled flesh, blood, and bones. No one was lucky enough to escape.

“Attack that thing, attack it!!” Fass’ heart was also suffused with panic. He hastily roared commands to the bandits around him.

Dozens of sharp axes were fiercely hurled out towards the quickly approaching, spinning Demonslayer Edge. However, just when they almost neared the Demonslayer Edge, it’d exhausted the magical yuan powering the “Bloody Radiance of Ten Thousand Cuts” and suddenly vanished in thin air. It seemed to be an inadvertently descending star of death, completing its mission one last time before returning to the universe.

“What is that thing?! Curse that necromancer! He must’ve used some sort of necromancy magic to create that damned monster. Don’t be afraid, keep attacking! I think they’re almost done for!”

Humans were always fearful of the unknown. Fass was no exception.

When he had spotted the bloody light disappearing into the sky, Fass’ heart unclenched slightly. He then roared madly at the frightened bandits, as if to comfort himself.

It was as what Fass had said. Even though the Demonslayer Edge had thrown the magic attacks into disarray, the bandits still held the advantage in numbers. Moreover, they had started to gradually climb the tall city walls with the support of their wooden ladders and iron hooks.

There were only three hundred soldiers defending Brettel City’s walls. Twenty of them died after just a while of fighting, mostly due to being hit by the ballistae attacks from below. The remaining two hundred or so soldiers were in the constant process of transporting boulders to load the stone-throwing catapults and reloading bolts for the ballistae, exhausting a great deal of their strength. Hundreds of soldiers among those who transported boulders were now deprived of energy, sprawling and panting on the ground.

Several soldiers could barely manage to pour oil down the city walls, but they were also heavily panting, having little strength left. However, there were still roughly twelve hundred of the original two thousand bandits left, of which five hundred had already reached the foot of the city wall. These bandits were trying to climb up the walls using wooden ladders and iron hooks.
