October 31, 3020. When Ling Huaan reached home, he heard a sound coming from the kitchen. He hooked his walking stick by the door and felt his way in.

“Yan Yu, why are you here so early?”

Yan Yu switched off the stove and walked towards Ling Huaan. He examined his injured right hand and said, “Lu Hao called me yesterday.”

Ling Huaan grunted in displeasure and helplessly waved, “He’s used to making a fuss. You’re no stranger to it.”

Yan Yu gently responded. He bypassed Ling Huaan and entered the living room. He drawed out an ointment and cotton swab from the cabinet. He walked back to pull Ling Huaan’s hand and applied medicine in silence.

“It’s just a tiny burn. I’m used to it. No need to make such a fuss.” Ling Huaan was aware of Yan Yu’s temper. You couldn't drag back eight horses if they knew they were right. To avoid trouble, he didn’t struggle and allowed himself to be treated.

“You have eight burns on your hand.” Although Yan Yu’s tone was very gentle, Ling Huaan still heard the dissatisfaction in his words.

“Adult men don’t care about this…”

“I care!” Yanyu interrupted Ling Huaan.

Ling Huaan was shocked and then asked, “Yan Yu, what do you mean?”

Yan Yu’s cold eyes glimmered. “Other than my grandfather, you, my best friend, are the person I care about most.”

Ling Huaan heaved a sigh of relief and smiled, “I got it. I promise I’ll pay attention next time so I won’t get hurt anymore. That works, right?”

“Despite how busy I am in the future, I will come on time to cook for you. If I can’t, I’ll get you some take-out. Just, Huaan, don’t enter the kitchen again.”

“Yan Yu, if you take care of me like this, I’ll begin to think I’m some ignorant baby. I’m not exaggerating. I’ve been doing good in the past ten years, haven’t I?”

Yan Yu was silent for a moment. “If it’s convenient, Huaan, I’d like to move in.”

“Inconvenient.” Ling Huaan resolutely declined. He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry as he said, “Yan Yu, others have no idea, but aren’t you aware? Ghosts often haunt me here, and I also have a lot of yin energy. If ordinary people stay here for a long time, it’ll be bad for their health.”

“What about you? Will it affect your body?”

Ling Huaan nodded and traversed the bathroom. After a simple wash, his arm was gripped as soon as he got out. Ling Huaan didn’t argue and followed Yan Yu forward. When they arrived at the dining table, Yan Yu pulled back his chair and then guided him to his seat.

Their breakfast was millet porridge, deep-fried dough sticks, tea eggs, and a plate of refreshing pickles. He peeled the eggs and put them on Ling Huaan’s plate, then gave him a fried dough stick and grabbed his hand so he could locate the utensils. Just like what Lu Hao said, Yan Yu took good care of Ling Huaan.

After a peaceful breakfast, Ling Huaan stopped Yan Yu who stood up to clean away the dishes. “Let me tidy up. You can do whatever you need to do.”

“I’m not busy. There’s Zhang Mian in the company. There’s no need for me there.” Yan Yu said as he picked up the dishes. “You go to bed. I’ll leave when I’m done.”

Ling Huaan knew he couldn’t stop him and exasperatedly replied, “Okay, then I’ll head to bed.”

Yan Yu grunted in response. He once again guided Ling Huaan to his bedroom, and pushed open the door for him. When he’s finally in, he turns back to the dining room to clean up the dishes.

November 1, 3020. Inside the criminal investigation team’s conference room, Jiang Chengyan was organizing another case analysis meeting. Suddenly, someone came knocking on the door. Qin An pushed it open and stepped in.

“We found new data, Jiang dui.” Qin An handed the information to Jiang Chengyan.

Jiang Chengyan received it and asked curiously, “What’s got you so happy?”

Qin An grinned, “When we checked the vehicle, we found a large amount of skin tissue of the victim on the driver seat’s seat belt, with bits of bloodstains mixed on it. We have reasons to believe that this seat belt was used as the murder weapon.”

“So the murder weapon was found? What else did you find on the seat belt?”

Qin An answered candidly, “In addition to the victim’s skin tissue, we also found Li Qiuran’s.”

Yao Min frowned tightly, “Li Qiuran? So Li Qiuran is really the murderer?”

Jiang Chengyan pondered for a while and shook his head. “This can’t be direct evidence. After all, It’s their family’s car. It’s normal for Li Qiuran to drive the car so it only makes sense that there’s remnants of her tissue. We can’t presume that Li Qiuran is the murderer.”

Yao Min bitterly said, “Then isn’t this clue useless as soon as it’s found?”

“If the murder weapon is in the car, it proves that the victim’s car was the first crime scene. If they could ride with him, the killer must’ve been an acquaintance.” Jiang Chengyan paused, then continued, “According to the clues we have now, Li Qiuran is the most suspicious. If she wants to ride with him, she must get in touch with Jiang Changping. However, we’ve already investigated Jiang Changping’s phone calls before he died, yet we found no records of Li Qiuran’s call.

There are only two possibilities in this situation: First, Li Qiuran didn’t use her own mobile phone to contact Jiang Changping; Second, Li Qiuran didn’t get in touch with Jiang Changping through the phone, but by other methods.”

Liu Ran’s brow arched down. “But we checked all of Jiang Changping’s social media accounts and didn’t find any of their chat records that day.”

“Don’t forget, they’re married. It’s not impossible for them to know the other party’s social account password. What if she deleted the communication record before our investigation?”

Liu Ran’s eyes brightened and he said, “I’ll find someone who can restore the chat history after the meeting.”

“The last call recorded was with Jiang Cheng. As he told us, their fight with Jiang Cheng for borrowing money to him lasted for five minutes. Is it possible that they reached a consensus and met at a certain time?”

Liu Ran: “Captain, we checked his alibi again. After dinner, Jiang Cheng entered a gambling area just below the district at 8:30. He only left three times to go to the toilet until the next day, the length was no longer than five minutes. We can basically rule out Jiang Cheng in our suspect list.”

“Did you find out who had spread Jiang Changping’s death?”

“It’s not so easy to check. After all, you can easily find a social media account that could post it on the internet. With the current circulation speed of online information, you can make everyone know.”

“Indeed. Many celebrities have been shot down now. Although Jiang Changping’s influence is not great, he has a small reputation in Huacheng, so there are many people who pay attention to him. Besides, as soon as our criminal investigation team intervenes, nine out of ten are homicides. Anyone who isn’t stupid would know that something happened to Jiang Changping.”

Jiang Chengyan nodded and said, “First, check the chat records of Jiang Changping and Li Qiuran to make sure that they were in touch. Not only Li Qiuran. Those who had chatted with him that day in his recent contacts will also need to be investigated. ”

Liu Ran nodded and said, “Yes, captain.”

“What happened to the surveillance video before that I asked you to check?”

“Captain, the community where Li Qiuran lives has 30 high-rise buildings with two units in each building. The workload is a bit heavy. We’ve only checked half of it.”

“Well, carry on. If there are no other breakthroughs, that will be all today.” Jiang Chengyan scanned the crowd and said, “Meeting adjourned.”

Everyone got up one after another to split up. Jiang Chengyan thought about it before saying, “Yao Min, wait a minute.”

Yao Min halted, looked at Jiang Chengyan and said, “Captain, what’s up?”

“Later, go to Jiang Changping’s house and seize the chance to find some of Jiang Xiaohan’s hair.”

“Jiang Xiaohan? Captain, are you suspecting that Jiang Xiaohan is not Jiang Changping’s son?” Nearly several years as a criminal policeman, Yao Min almost instantly understood Jiang Chengyan’s intent.

“En, I have some doubts about that aspect.” Jiang Chengyan obviously took Ling Huaan’s words to heart.

Yao Min asked oddly, “Do you have grounds for this suspicion?”

“Nothing, just doubting. Don’t worry, if anything goes wrong, I’ll take responsibility.”

Yao Min huffed angrily. “No, captain. Listen to yourself. Am I the kind of person who is afraid to take responsibility? No wonder you’re 30 years old and still a single dog. You deserve it!”

Yao Min finished and stuck out her tongue towards Jiang Chengyan, turned and ran out of the conference room.

Jiang Chengyan’s gaze darted at Qin An innocently. “Qin Ke, did I say something wrong just now? No, what does it have to do with whether I’m single or not?”

Qin An scoffed. “Jiang dui, it’s time for you to think about it. Why are you still single when you’re already 30 years old?”

Looking at Qin An’s back, Jiang Chengyan couldn’t help muttering, “What’s the matter with being 30 years old? If a man has 31 flowers, won't you have a daughter-in-law? It’s a fact.”

Once the clock striked at 8 in the evening, his phone suddenly buzzed. Jiang Chengyan raised his head to look at the time and promptly picked it up. As expected, he saw the voice message from Ling Huaan.

“Jiang dui, it’s 8 pm. Have you eaten yet?”

The corners of Jiang Chengyan’ lips rose up. He tried to press it down as he replied, “Not yet. I’m going down now.”

Jiang Chengyan gathered the documents lying on his desk, picked up his coat and walked out of the office. He happened to run into Yao Min who just came back from dinner.

Yao Min glanced at the clock, walked up to Jiang Chengyan and whispered, “So punctual, captain. Brother Ling just got on work ah.”

Jiang Chengyan felt a little guilty when he heard her words and scrambled to explain,  “Little girl, what are you thinking all day long? Don’t read too much of those messy novels in the future.”

Yao Min twisted her lips and said discontentedly, “Captain, you can scold me, but you can’t say that about my novels. Those are my spiritual food, spiritual food! Do you understand?”

“Yes, yes, yes, spiritual food, spiritual food. But please don’t trouble the people around you into it, okay?”

Yao Min stared at Jiang Chengyan as if he was eccentric and said, “Captain, don’t you think you don’t understand yourself?”

“What is there to understand? Dead girl, finish eating and do your work. Don’t think about problems you don’t have all day long.”

Looking at Jiang Chengyan’s back, Yao Min simply resented the fact that iron was not made of steel. She couldn’t help muttering, “This man is usually very smart. Why does his brain become the size of a pimple when he encounters emotional problems? This impatient little expression is a sign he’s fallen in love ah. Tsk tsk. Sure enough, there’s a reason why he’s single.”

Jiang Chengyan rushed out to the door of the police station, but when he saw the figure in front of the glass window, he stopped.
