“Oh, it’s you. Please don’t scare me out like that, please!”

Yui Mei looked relieved as she smiled at Xu.

The courtesan, on the other hand, was staring dubiously stared back at her.

“You, you’re that court lady, aren’t you? What are you doing here? This isn’t a place where you can come as you please.”

Based on Xu’s words, she was probably thinking that Yui Mei was arbitrarily loitering around.

“I was cleaning, I’m a housekeeper after all.”

Xu blinked after hearing what Yui Mei said.

“… Oh, right. It’s at the garbage burning site that I met you before.”

Xu already saw Yui Mei burning trash when they first met, but it seemed that she didn’t made the connection that she was cleaning.

‘Maybe this person was previously a miss from a good family?’

A person who never cleaned before wouldn’t understand how a cleaning job looked like.

Even if they saw someone coming to burn the trash, they might not think that it was also a part of cleaning.

Well, unless the person came from a wealthy family, she wouldn’t be able to experience playing a musical instrument in the first place, after all.

Only a family that came from a lineage that was fond of musical instruments, as well as the wealthy families who were interested in such could possess musical instruments.

If that wealthy family fell and the daughters became courtesans, they could rely on their foundation to become courtesan musicians.

However, if the daughters came from poor family, they would lack the foundation; they could only resort to selling their own bodies.

Yui Mei didn’t really think about the courtesans and harlots in her previous life, so she made her own conjectures regarding them.

“A bunch of scoundrels hang around this place. It’ll be a mess if they happen to notice you, so you better hurry and go somewhere else.”

Xu sternly said, and she waved her hand in dismissal, which made Yui Mei blink in confusion.

“Oh, perhaps you went out of your way to call out to me so that you can tell me these things?”

She probably didn’t recognize Yui Mei when she called out to her, and she must have thought Yui Mei was an unfamiliar courtlady.

There was a possibility that she would be disdained because of her status as a courtesan and yet she still called out to her in order to warn her.

‘Oh, seems like she’s also a busybody, huh.’

Yui Mei felt happy at Xu’s sincerity, so she broadly grinned towards Xu, who then grimaced.

“… I don’t like troublesome things, that’s all there is to it, so go on, hurry up.”

She waved her hand, so Yui Mei decided to obediently leave this place.

“Alright, see you again next time!”

“There’s no way we’re gonna meet again.”

Yui Mei bid her farewell, but she just averted her eyes and retorted.

Whenever Yui Mei passed by Xu, she always saw a smoking pipe inserted in Xu’s sash, but there was no scent of smoke coming from her today.

Yui Mei left the Jiaofang and walked until she was near the crown prince’s palace.

“Mmm, what to do now?”

She didn’t know how to proceed from here on.

Never had she visited the crown palace on her own accord before, so she didn’t know the procedures to call out a person from this place.

‘Mm, will I be able to get a hold of Libin at this rate?’

Yui Mei tried her best to crane her neck and stand on tiptoes in order to peek inside the palace from the wall while wishing that she’d have a stroke of luck and meet somebody familiar.

“What are you doing?”

Yui Mei’s heart jumped, and she happily turned around when a familiar voice called out from behind her.

“Yey, the person himself came!”

“What do you mean by that?”

Yui Mei joyfully stared back at the owner of the voice — it was Libin, who was also staring at her with doubt written all over his face.

She thought that if a person would really approach her, then it must be the eunuch guarding the gate who was also looking at her suspiciously. Thus, she was pleasantly surprised to see that the person she needed walked towards her from that direction.

“His Highness Ming Xian asked whether ‘the one scurrying over there is Yui Mei?’, so I’m here to check on you.”

Libin glared at her as he stated the reason why he was here.

Apparently, the crown prince discovered Yui Mei.
