“What the hell is this?!”

I was horrified. The pendant was definitely something evil.

‘This must be something sinister, with a distorted personality! No wonder it was sealed! Though it said ‘G□d’, surely it must be an evil deity!’

I have to get rid of the pendant!

To seal this, I needed Professor Richter’s help…

[ G□d, T▲□ is curious regarding what medicine you’re taking?! ]

I paused between formulating a plan to get rid of the pendant.

“Medicine? You mean the pills I’m taking for my hereditary disease?”

[ G□d, T▲□ clicks his tongue.. Your tiny body might burst from all that mana intake ]

[ G□d, T▲□ laments how greedy you are to continue mana training on top of that. But at least, mana training will help your heart from failing. Guess that’s a good thing! ]

My head was dizzy from the cryptic words that were quickly carved into the window. Now the pendant was talking about the cure for my genetic disease.

How does it know that? What the hell is this pendant?

‘Apparently, he was very talkative and kept yapping without being asked.’

Seems like it has accumulated a lot of gossip during sleep.

‘If that’s the case, prodding it a little might make the pendant spill some information.’

I cautiously said, “Is it because of the medicine that there’s too much mana in my body?”

[ G□d, T▲□ nodded. Mana must have leaked out every time you cast a spell ]

“Y-Yeah! That is what exactly happened. I could even perform high-level magic.”

[ With so much mana, you can raise your rank even with a simple practise ]

[ G□d, T▲□ shakes his head, saying, being a fifth-tier child isn’t something extraordinary ]

So is it telling me that the reason I was able to do fifth-tier magic was because of the medicine I was taking?

“The medicine I take has a mana-boosting effect, but I thought it was only used to protect my heart, does it also affect usage of magic?”

[ G□d, T▲□ wonders how you survived if you’re so ignorant! ]

“Stop laughing and just tell me!”

I resisted the urge to punch the flimsy screen in the air. Once I’m done asking questions, I’ll seal it back up!

“Are you familiar with the cure for my genetic disease?”

[ G□d, T▲□ scoffs at the idea that you think it’s a cure for a hereditary disease]

[ G□d, T▲□ holds back his laughter, thinking that it was somewhat effective ]

I was getting offended, but I forced myself to ask again. After all, I was the person in need.

“What I do know is that the cure pill makes your heart accumulate mana quickly and in large amounts, so the mana circle surrounding your heart becomes stronger, protecting it from being broken by the disease.”

[ G□d, T▲□ sighs, saying you only know how to make the medicine not it’s effectiveness ]

“Don’t just keep teasing me, but tell me!”

[ G□d, T▲□ is amused, wondering if the little guy is getting angry now. He wants to see you get angrier ]

It’s treating me like a pet! I bit my lower lip in anger.

[ G□d, T▲□ grumbles that you have a temper. I’ll tell you what you want to know, but you have to guess who I am instead ]

My eyes widened-

“How would I know who you are? The only thing I can’t read on the windows is your name.”

[ G□d, T▲□ throws his hands in the air. We’re currently talking using a linker. There’s a clue on the window. Find it yourself! ]

“A linker?”

I stared at the pendant.

The embedded red gemstone emitted a radiant glow, projecting a spear of translucent light.

And yellowish mana was flowing into the gem through the pendant’s connection. It was mana siphoned from me.

‘The red gem was the main body, and the pendant was the linker.’

So the linker is what allows the red gem to communicate with me.

‘And the linker uses mana to operate.’

I had a question. Professor Richter has plenty of mana. But why does it only respond to my mana and not Miss Richter’s?

[ G□d, T▲□ is getting bored and urges you to guess the name quickly! ]

While I was busy thinking about the gleaming jewel. It wasn’t giving me a straight answer. Frustrated, I said whatever came to my mind.

“Umm.. Something with T.. How about Rabbit?”

The words, neatly etched on the translucent window, jumbled together in panic.

I was equally flustered by the nonsense that escaped my mouth. I clamped my tiny hands over my mouth and feigned ignorance, and the new text was quickly engraved.

[ How can the g□ d To△, call the great ○◇▽’s □ god, I, To△, like that ]

[ Once upon a time, all humans prostrated at my feet and worshiped. Just because I’ve been sealed away for a few years, people changed. This world is truly declining! ]

[ G□d, T▲□ is rolling on the floor sobbing. I’ve been woken up for nothing. I should have died when I was getting old ]

The letters poured in like a torrent of grumbling. I felt a little sorry for him.

“I’m sorry. What can I call you then?”

[ ‘The revered greatness, the ultimate presence on the edge of dawn, the exquisite guardian of impending fate…….’ ]

That’s way too long.

“I’ll just call you Uncle Rabbit.”

At my words, the letters rumbled again.

[ G□d, T▲□ is yelling at you for calling him an uncle ]

“Actually, if you lived for more than a few hundred years, you’d be a grandfather. But I’m gracefully calling you uncle.”

[ G□d, T▲□ says that if you had seen my beautiful face, you would never have said that. I don’t accept that kind of title ]

“Then what should I call you? Just as I addressed you in the beginning….”

[ G□d, T▲□ nods, saying that now that he thinks about it, maybe ‘Uncle Rabbit’ isn’t so bad after all ]

[ G□d, T▲□’s name has been changed to ‘Uncle Rabbit’ ]

‘Uncle Rabbit’ quickly switched his stance.

[ ‘Uncle Rabbit’ shakes his head in disappointment. You couldn’t guess my name, so I won’t tell you about the medicine ]

[ ‘Uncle Rabbit’ is angry and looks away from you. He hopes you can correct your mistake and apologize ]

“I won’t. They’re mana boosting pills anyway. Maybe I just accumulated more than I needed to protect my heart.”

[ ‘Rabbit Uncle’ looks puzzled. I have interesting information. Won’t you like me to share? ]

I shook my head in denial. He’s the one with information. So why was he acting desperate? Was he trying to get something out of me in exchange for the information?

I asked, peering through the translucent window.

“I had a question!”

[ ‘Uncle Rabbit’ is happy to …. nonchalant about it ]

“How did this pendant end up here? I surely gave it to Professor Richter.”

[ ‘Uncle Rabbit’ says it was your mana that attracted the linker. The linker reacts to special powers, like the one you have ]

“A special power?”

[ It might be the power that developed by taking that so-called medicine ]

Oh, so the powerful mana built up in my body attracted the pendant, or rather, the Linker.

The Linker responds to that power.

‘Does that mean the amount of mana I have is more than Professor Richter’s?

That’s a bit of a stretch, honestly.

I extended my tiny hand and looked at myself.

‘I can’t believe there’s so much power in here…..’

It happened by accident, yet it brought me immense happiness.

I’m not a noob in terms of magic anymore!

Just as I was thinking, the translucent window wrote:

[ ‘Uncle Rabbit’ is saying, he was an entity guiding humans. He is stuck here because he was sealed by ∇●△ bastard. How nice it would be if I could rip them apart! ]

I wondered if he was a sealed demon. But he rather seems too passive for a demon.

‘But ripping someone apart- does sound evil.’

Maybe not a demon. He might be a lackey of one.

[ ‘Uncle Rabbit’ looks at you cautiously. I am currently sealed and can’t use my powers. But if I contract with someone with special powers like yours, I could use it to some extent ]

“…….”

[ …… ‘Uncle Rabbit’ is looking at you eagerly ]

“…….”

[ ‘Uncle Rabbit’ is impatient and offers to be your contractee ]

I was debating if he was a demon or not. And here he’s trying to lure me into an offer.

I cautiously moved towards my drawers.

“What will Uncle Rabbit give me, if I become your contractor?”

[ ‘Uncle Rabbit’ looks clueless ] [ You’ll feel the absolute joy of being a contractor for the Transcendent. The privilege of being able to worship the Absolute in its closest proximity, witnessing the heroic….]

Who is he bluffing to?

“I don’t want something like that. I want something that’s tangible, the material kind.”

I said coldly, silently opening a drawer behind my back with one hand and pulling out a box.

[ ‘Uncle Rabbit’ sighs, seeing the little one already becoming possessed with worldly desire ]

The man who was going to gently coax the child kept chattering…

[ ‘Uncle Rabbit’ is sullen. I have nothing to give you right now. But if you wait, I’ll prove my potential ]

[ At first you need to get into a contract….]

“Get in here.”

I lifted the lid of the box I’d pulled out of the drawer.

[ If I go into the box, will you sign the contract? ]

Instead of answering, I shoved the pendant into the box.

Notes:

Well this chapter might sound a bit confusing. But I edited this a couple of times to make it easier to understand. I think we’re familiar with window or status systems, where a screen pops up. But in Hanelope’s case, it won’t be that extensive. Just consider that she’s got a sassy and dramatic uncle whose real identity is unknown. ‘G□d, T▲□’- this text might give you a headache (cause I got one while TL-ing). His real name is hidden behind these shapes. Another unknown force is not letting him reveal these identities. LUCKILY we won’t be getting chapters with this much cryptic text in the future. In case you find anything confusing, or find the text alignment weird, let me know in the comments or discord. I’ll try to resolve them. A-and someone familiar is coming back and someone new is making their appearance at the academy in the next chapter~
