The middle-aged man's startled cry immediately woke the young woman sleeping beside him before she sat up while pulling the sheets for cover in fright.
"Hello, mayor," Maverick Cohen greeted with a grin before he said indifferently, "I see that you are enjoying quite the life in your position. Does your wife know about this?"
"Who are you? What do you want? And how did you get in here?!" Mayor Enzo interrogated sternly, completely ignoring Maverick's question before he bellowed, "Men! Come in here at once!"
"Well, never mind about your wife. I didn't care anyway," Maverick Cohen shrugged before he said, "Don't bother. Your two bodyguards have already been knocked out cold, and the room has been insulated, completely soundproof. Nothing gets in and out of this suite."
"Just what do you want exactly?" Mayor Enzo questioned with a frown, seeing that he was in no position to make demands and can only listen.
Maverick Cohen cautioned one of the other men in black with his hand before Ah Zhen immediately approached the young woman, causing her to be frightened.
"Nooo—!"
The young woman's cry was cut short after Ah Zhen delivered a chop, causing her body to turn limp and motionless without another sound.
Seeing his lover's state, Mayor Enzo's expression turned grave immediately.
However, Maverick Cohen casually said, "Relax. She's not dead yet. I figured it was in your best interest that we talk privately. Otherwise, she really will have to die after."
"I see. How considerate of you," Mayor Enzo nodded, but his frown did not relax as he shortly urged with a firm tone, "Speak! What do you want from me? To make a move on a government official, you are either very confident or very foolish."
"Allow us to introduce ourselves," Maverick Cohen promptly said with a gentlemanly gesture before stating, "We are members of the Blackthorne Group, a new power established by our Lord. And you, sir, have the honor of being the first to submit to us."
"You see, our Lord has taken a liking to this city. Thus, this city will be the start of our Blackthorne Group's conquest to re-establish our Lord's authority and cement our foothold in this world."
"The Blackthorne Group? Never heard of it," Mayor Enzo's expression quickly turned disdainful before he said, "Another group of upstarts want to play villains, eh? Do you think the underworld still holds a lot of influence in this present era?"
"A group of upstarts, huh? How ignorant," Maverick Cohen chuckled with a shake of his head before he stated coolly, "So long as society exists, so too, the underworld. The darkness of humans can be suppressed but never erased."
"You have not heard of the Blackthorne Group before, but now you have. And so too will the rest of the world. The world has forgotten who ruled this world, but it is time that they remember just who exactly our Lord is."

"The one and only," Maverick Cohen nodded with a confident smile and said, "Now, I will only ask you once. Are you willing to submit and work for our Lord?"
"Do I have a choice?" Mayor Enzo smiled helplessly with bitterness, fully knowing the consequence of refusing.
"Of course, you have a choice," Maverick Cohen grinned coldly and said, "It is just whether you have the courage to accept the consequences of your choices."

"Nothing as of present. You will continue to perform your job as per normal like you usually would," Maverick Cohen stated before adding, "However, we will contact you when there is a task for you to complete."
"Just like the past, huh? A ruler in the dark," Mayor Enzo mulled.
"Not at all. The Lord is different now. Some things have changed over the years. For starters, our Lord goes by the name of Albion Black, and you do best to remember his name. Those favored by our Lord will be rewarded handsomely."

"With this, you will be able to contact me and also make requests to Damocles. But of course, it will be up to the ones running Damocles whether they will accept your requests or not," Maverick Cohen stated.
"Are you not afraid that I will turn this over to the government as a piece of evidence and have the Earth Federation mobilize their forces to quell this uprising?" Mayor Enzo asked.
