Unknowingly, Tang Ning felt a certain aura of mastery from the person. He quickly caught up and asked, "Senior, why did you choose to be a gravedigger? Can you handle those things?"

The gravedigger replied, "Few tasks, high salary, peaceful, and it comes with accommodation."

At first listen, it seemed surprisingly attractive.

Tang Ning watched as the gravedigger walked towards a small house at the foot of the mountain, even keeping a few chickens in front of the house.

Ignoring the cemetery on the hill, it did indeed seem like an idyllic life.

Tang Ning didn't dare linger in the cemetery. He took a taxi back to the villa, removed the soil from the grave of Lu Yingxing from the bag, placed it in a guest room, and earnestly knelt down as per the instructions of Daoist Hao.

After completing this task, Tang Ning felt a heavy burden lifted from his heart.

Inside the bag were also cotton, fabric, and sewing materials he bought. Everything was ready, waiting only for the reappearance of the cloth doll housing the ghost infant. Once he sewed the doll, he could send away the ghost infant and resolve his longstanding worry.

However, Tang Ning was timid. He didn't wish for the cloth doll to appear right now. Ideally, when Mo Yunchu returned, he could do this task with Mo Yunchu by his side.

Thinking of Mo Yunchu, Tang Ning couldn't help but recall the incident with the bus that Mo Yunchu mentioned this morning. Mo Yunchu said they were on that bus that day. Since he wasn't on the hearse, why did Driver Lao Liu react so strongly when asked about what happened that night?

This matter left Tang Ning with a knot in his heart. Glancing at the time, it was already four in the afternoon. With some time left before nightfall, he didn't want to take action at night. This meant he had only enough time for one more thing this afternoon.

Should he go find Lao Liu, or investigate the bus?

Tang Ning didn't hesitate for too long. He was still afraid of the threats Lao Liu made before leaving. It would be safer to investigate the bus.

Tang Ning called Mo Yunchu and asked for the specific location where the incident with the bus occurred.

"The bus has been taken away and awaits destruction. If you go now, you'll only see a mass grave and not the bus," Mo Yunchu said, puzzled, "What's the matter, why are you asking about this?"

The mass grave.

Just hearing that name made Tang Ning feel frightened.

"It's nothing, this matter sounds quite strange, and I'm a bit curious," Tang Ning replied, aligning with his persona as a paranormal blogger. Mo Yunchu didn't ask further, and they ended the call.

Tang Ning didn't dare to investigate the mass grave on-site. After contemplating for a while, a sudden insight struck him. He realized he could go to the bus company to inquire about information related to Driver Lao Liu, inspired by the investigation he was planning to conduct on Lao Liu.

Tang Ning remembered the license plate number Mo Yunchu mentioned earlier. After checking the local bus company, he hurriedly made his way to the destination.

Initially planning to take a taxi, Tang Ning coincidentally encountered a bus on the way. Thinking he could inquire about the incident with the colleague on the bus, Tang Ning waved for the bus to stop in front of him.

Truth be told, due to the fright Tang Ning experienced on the bus on the first day of the instance, he still had some fear of buses. However, it was broad daylight, and the passengers on the bus seemed like ordinary people. Taking a deep breath, Tang Ning nervously boarded the bus.

The moment he got on, however, with the cold air from the air conditioning blowing on his face, Tang Ning began to regret it.

Each person looked for a seat upon entering the bus. Tang Ning, looking at the familiar seat layout and style, seemed to see flashes of the ghost infant in various rows of seats.

"Little Tang, why are you standing there like a fool?" the driver shouted back at Tang Ning.

Tang Ning looked at the uncle-like driver, who seemed to recognize the original "Tang Ning." This scene was much better than what Tang Ning originally anticipated. After all, Tang Ning wasn't good at striking up conversations with strangers.

He inserted the coin and sat in the seat next to the driver. After contemplating for a moment, he said, "I was thinking about something just now, so I stood there for a while."

"Don't keep thinking about those things all the time," the driver's expression turned somewhat serious, and he lowered his loud voice, "From now on, don't make those kinds of videos again. If I hadn't advised you, you would have been on that bus." The driver's voice dropped to a whisper towards the end.

Although the uncle-like driver didn't explicitly mention what "that bus" was, Tang Ning realized immediately that he was referring to the bus that had the accident!

This driver must know something!

It's true what they say about unexpected gains coming effortlessly!

Tang Ning used his acting skills and intelligence to carefully ask, "Ah, I didn't know such a thing would happen at that time."

"What didn't you know? You know very well in your heart. I explained the serious consequences to you clearly. You still had to try it out, saying that filming a video had to have that kind of effect." The uncle-like driver couldn't help but turn his head and glare at Tang Ning.

The uncle's tone was harsh, but there wasn't much true anger in his expression. Tang Ning quickly put on a pleasing smile, drooping his eyes slightly. Smiling, he gave off a pitiful vibe, like a stray cat on the roadside. Even the most heartless person couldn't help but feel some sympathy.

Sure enough, the uncle's tone softened. While keeping an eye on the road, he said, "You, this brat."

Next, Tang Ning tried to gather more information through indirect means, but the uncle skillfully avoided the topic, saying not to mention such things on the bus.

After driving for more than half an hour and reaching the terminal station, most of the passengers had already disembarked. The driver took Tang Ning off the bus, squatted by a tree, and lit a cigarette. He was a middle-aged man with a few strands of white hair, looking to be in his fifties. Smoking, he asked, "Alright, spill it. What are you looking for me for this time?"

"It's about that bus incident. I came to gather some video material." Tang Ning said, following his established character.

The uncle driver got so angry that he threw away his cigarette. "How can you be so stubborn?! I thought you were in good spirits today, thinking you had turned over a new leaf! What exactly goes on in your mind? Do you want to film a video to risk your life?!"

Tang Ning was scolded terribly, feeling like he was drenched in cold water. He also wanted to know what the previous "Tang Ning" was thinking, how he could be so audacious. However, he was timid like a mouse.

"Forget about that bus; don't bother with it. If there's another last bus heading in that direction, don't stop it! Don't even think about getting off halfway. Once you get on that bus," the uncle driver spoke more softly now, lowering his voice, "you won't come back."

After uttering these words, the uncle driver didn't mention anything else. His face looked stern as he cautioned Tang Ning, "If you call me 'uncle' again in the future, don't mess around with your videos, and don't ask me about those things."

Tang Ning immediately nodded.

For a moment, the uncle driver's expression softened slightly. Then, Tang Ning weakly asked, "Uncle, could you tell me why once that bus goes up, it never comes back—"

Without waiting for Tang Ning to finish, the uncle driver turned and walked away, completely ignoring Tang Ning. Before leaving, he even ruthlessly stepped on the cigarette butt on the ground, showing clear signs of anger.

Feeling he had reached the limit with his inquiries, Tang Ning suspected that the uncle driver wouldn't reveal anything more even if he caught up with him. He then went back to the bus company for another round of questioning, but the people there claimed to know nothing. As the day was turning dark, Tang Ning had no choice but to return home.

From this trip, Tang Ning obtained crucial information. If the uncle driver wasn't lying, once you boarded that bus, something bad would undoubtedly happen. It was unavoidable, and even getting off midway wouldn't help.

If he and Mo Yunchu had been on that bus at the time, why didn't anything happen to them? Moreover, after the bus had an accident, only the driver's body was found, and not the other five passengers. Could it be that those five passengers also got off midway after them?

Tang Ning vividly remembered there were five passengers on the bus at that time. He also remembered that on the night when Old Liu was driving the hearse, there were five bodies.

All these pieces of information presented themselves before him, and Tang Ning contemplated for a while—

But he couldn't figure out a reasonable explanation.

After mental exertion, it was time to replenish energy with high-calorie sweets. Tang Ning opened the refrigerator, picked up yesterday's red velvet cake, placed it on the dining table, and ceremoniously cut it into triangular pieces on a plate. Tang Ning had always treated food with respect and love.

With the cake in place, Tang Ning turned to grab a bottle of milk. As he walked back to the table, Tang Ning paused. He noticed a notch on the pointed corner of the cake.

As if someone had taken a bite.

Staring at the cake in confusion, a crash echoed from the table. Startled, Tang Ning saw that the milk had somehow spilled onto the table, splashing him.

Now Tang Ning couldn't stay calm. Maintaining an appearance of composure, he left the table. However, as he turned, there was a tingling sensation at the back of his neck, as if someone were watching him from behind.

Quickening his pace to the hallway, the feeling of being watched intensified. The pitch-black TV screen flashed Tang Ning's shadow, and he didn't look around, swiftly leaving the house and closing the door.

By now, the sky had darkened, and the dark tree shadows swayed in the distance. Despite turning on the outdoor lights, Tang Ning felt the surroundings becoming even more eerie and frightening under the light.

He quickly dialed Mr. Hao's number, informing him of the strange events at the dining table.

"Have you been neglecting to feed the ghost infant?" Mr. Hao asked.

"I haven't encountered it, so I haven't actively fed it anything." Tang Ning whispered as if sharing a secret, glancing anxiously around while speaking.

"You invited Lu Yingxing to your home for worship, yet you've been ignoring it. Naturally, it will cause trouble." Mr. Hao leisurely explained, "Now, sincerely offer your worship to it. Sew up the doll it possesses, and it won't bother you anymore."

Tang Ning regarded Mr. Hao's words as a guide. His pockets were filled with candy, and Tang Ning took out a handful, carefully opened the door, and scattered the candy outside before quickly closing the door.

Behind the closed door, Tang Ning heard a teeth-grinding crunch, the sound of candies being bitten. Tang Ning's legs trembled slightly, feeling as if he was being bitten, not the candy.

After a while, the chewing sound stopped. Trembling, Tang Ning asked Mr. Hao what to do next.

"Do you still have candy on you?"

"Yes, one more piece."

"Give all the candy to it." Mr. Hao instructed.

Tang Ning, shaking all over, took out the last piece of candy. Before he could scatter it, his fingertips felt a sudden sting.

The lights in the living room were not turned on. It was quite dim inside, and Tang Ning couldn't see anything clearly. However, he could imagine a pale baby crouching by the door, fiercely opening its mouth to pounce on the candy, so fast that it bit Tang Ning.

Tang Ning hastily withdrew his hand, the blood droplets on his fingertips and the vanished candy reminded him that he was involved in the act of nurturing an evil spirit. Vaguely, Tang Ning felt that what he was doing was somewhat wrong, but having started down this path, there was no turning back.

"All the candy is gone. What do I do next?" Tang Ning's voice sounded somewhat dry.

"Ever heard of the headstand technique? Spread your legs apart, bend down from your waist, and look toward the coffin through the gap between your legs," Mr. Hao explained.

"What am I supposed to see?"

"Living people can see ghosts through the headstand technique. If you can't see any ghosts, it means it's satisfied."

A chill surged up from the soles of Tang Ning's feet. After hearing Mr. Hao's words, he was almost on the verge of tears. He didn't want to do this; it sounded terrifying.

"You have to do it. If it's not satisfied, you can appease it by feeding it some blood before its aggression intensifies. If you keep delaying, you won't even have a chance to try the headstand technique!" Mr. Hao raised his voice, emphasizing the urgency.

Reluctantly, Tang Ning followed Mr. Hao's instructions.

With his legs apart, he slowly bent down. The cold night wind stirred his back, and Tang Ning's hands holding the phone started trembling. Please don't appear, please don't appear.

Tang Ning repeated frantically in his mind. Then, he forced himself to suppress the fear and looked down through the gap between his legs.

He saw a pitch-black expanse.

Trembling, Tang Ning said, "I don't see anything."

"Maintain this posture and take a few steps back."

Following Mr. Hao's instructions, Tang Ning cautiously moved backward step by step. He noticed a faint whitish border appearing at the edge of his black field of vision. As he continued retreating, the whitish area grew larger.

What is this?

Tang Ning wondered, confused and panicking, as he continued to move backward. Instinctively, he didn't want to know the truth. Legs slowly moved, and when he retreated enough to see clearly what it was, his blood seemed to freeze.

It turned out that the black mass was the opened mouth of the ghost infant, stretched to its limit!

Due to Tang Ning's headstand posture, the ghost infant's head was parallel to Tang Ning's, and as he moved back, he could see the pale-blue baby eyes locking onto him.

What on earth is this?

Tang Ning, dazed and flustered, continued to back away. He instinctively didn't want to know the truth. As he retreated, his legs moved slowly. When he retreated enough to see clearly what it was, his blood seemed to freeze.

It turned out that the black mass was the opened mouth of the ghost infant, stretched to its limit!

Due to Tang Ning's headstand posture, the ghost infant's head was parallel to Tang Ning's, and as he moved back, he could see the pale-blue baby eyes locking onto him.

With a ravenous, ruthless gaze.

Deep and cruel.

Faced with such eyes, Tang Ning suddenly had a thought: no matter how much candy he had, he wouldn't satisfy the ghost infant because what it most wanted to eat was him.

At the moment of realization, the ghost infant lunged forward. The mouth, stretched to its extreme, could swallow an adult's head. Overwhelmed by immense fear and despair—

"Xiao Ning."

A warm and magnetic voice echoed in Tang Ning's ears. His vision went dark, black spots filled his field of view, and his waist felt like it was about to break. His head was throbbing intensely, his throat was incredibly dry, as if there was a fire burning, and his entire esophagus felt scorching hot.

A strong and slender hand embraced Tang Ning's waist, helping him stand up. The world spun as the black spots slowly dissipated, and Tang Ning saw Mo Yunchu's concerned face.

"Xiao Ning, why did you eat so much candy?"
