Jean, who carried Nina and took her to the front of Adrian’s room, watched her as she entered.

Click.

A heavy door made of ash tree opened with a loud noise.

Adrian’s room was quiet.

Sunlight streamed in at an angle from the spacious window, and the embroidered velvet curtains shimmered faintly. Particles of dust drifting through the air were seen dancing in the sunlight.

“Young master?”

With a small voice, Nina closed the door and went inside. The sound of the door closing sounded loud.

A thick dark green carpet absorbed the sound of her footsteps.

When she went inside through a room connected to another hallway-like room, she saw Adrian sitting on the sofa.

‘Ah.’

It was rare to see him taking a nap. I guess he fell asleep while looking at the papers in his hand.

Sneaking closer, Nina knelt down beside the sofa.

She held out her hand as she quietly looked at his face. Without touching his cheek, she gently slides her fingertips down the line of his face.

Neat eyebrows, a sharp nose bridge, moderately thick lips, and an elegant jaw line. Even though she was so close, he didn’t wake up, so he must have been quite tired.

“I love you, Adrian.”

Nina felt ashamed to speak to a sleeping partner, and her cheeks turned red.

‘I should at least draw the curtains.’

Nina got up from her seat and her arm got snatched.

“Huh?”

“Where are you going?”

Almost falling on top of him. Nina asked.

“Adrian, are you awake?”

Adrian smiled faintly and got up.

“I woke up a while ago.”

“Did you hear everything?”

“Could you do it one more time?”

Nina rolled her eyes once, leaned over, and lightly kissed his lips.

“I love you.”

He sighed and took Nina into his arms. It felt like she was sandwiched inside his embrace. Nina was held like that for a while.

Her heart was beating fast.

“Adrian.”

There was no answer, but I knew he was listening.

“Thank you for coming to find me.”

“Thank you for being there too.”

At Adrian’s words, Nina raised her head. He was smiling faintly.

“I knew Nina wouldn’t give up.”

He knew Nina would never leave him alone again.

She wouldn’t but, what if she can’t come back even on her own? What if she’s fighting alone?

Nina. Alone.

Darkness and shadows.

The deepest abyss was the one that borders death. He may not be able to come back either, let alone find her.

Even so, he was fine with it. He wasn’t afraid of sinking in the pitch-black darkness, but he was afraid of seeing nothing.

He was afraid to miss Nina.

“As expected, Nina was shining.”

At Adrian’s laugh, Nina made a bewildered face.

“Shining? Me?”

Seeing her peering over his arm, Adrian raised his body. Nina’s body was gently pulled up.

“Yes, you always shine in my eyes.”

It was one of his pleasures to see her round golden eyes full of shame and joy at the same time.

Nina hugged him tightly.

Hugs and kisses were good. But that alone seems to be insufficient now.

It feels good when their body was stuck together. He has a solid body that is completely different from hers, his heavy weight, and everything she feels when he presses on her.

Taking a long breath, Nina opened her mouth.

“Well, Adrian, about Fiona.”

“No.”

“What do you think I’m going to say?”

“You’re going to ask to meet her.”

Nina frowned and pulled away.

“Why not?”

“It’s dangerous.”

“Edgar may be dangerous, but Fiona is not. Besides, I let my guard down this time.”

Then, all of a sudden, Nina’s eyes narrowed.

“Did something happen to Fiona?”

“I treating her with respect.”

Adrian made a grinding sound.

“Politely.”

Nina got up from the sofa and flopped in front of him. She folded her legs, sat on the carpet, and looked up at him on the sofa.

“Adrian, if you want to be angry, get mad at me. I made a mistake back then. I shouldn’t be doing things so defenseless.”

If I was going to use the power of The Sun, I should have done it with proper preparations, not something like ‘Shall we try it?’

So this was also her carelessness and mistake.

It’s not a hundred percent Edgar and Fiona’s fault that she got a hole pierced in her heart.

“Did you hear about what happened then?”

Nina asked cautiously. Did you ask Edgar and Fiona about the situation? You didn’t just lock them up, did you?

Of course, it was wrong of Edgar not to say beforehand that, ‘Somethin strange was done to him’. Nevertheless, was it not wrong of Nina to proceed with the situation on the spot without much thought even after hearing the story?

“You want me to get mad at you?”

Adrian asked. In an instant, his smile became perfect, as if a thin layer of ice was on his face.

Nina flinched and shrugged her shoulders. Adrian got up from his seat and knelt down on one of his knees in front of Nina. His fingers caressed her cheek.

His fingers gently stroked her cheeks and descended to her neck, as if touching the surface of delicate porcelain.

“You don’t know how I felt for two days, Nina. That’s why you can tell me to be angry. Anger?”

Can you describe the feeling he is going through right now with just one simple word?

He has already gone through life without Nina once.

Imagination was something vague and ambiguous. You think there will be pain, but when it becomes a reality, it is on a completely different level.

He experienced that reality once.

Then, does the second time make it easier?

Not at all.

He knew the sorrow, the pain, the despair, the anger, and the hatred to come, dragging him to the bottom.

To feel that again?

He couldn’t breathe just thinking about it.

Torture technicians take time to torture people. Torture enough and then neglect them. Because the victims are fully aware of what kind of pain they will experience the next day.

The fear of tomorrow’s pain in the time they are left alone gnaws at the victim. Imagination devours them. If the purpose of torture is to break the mind with pain, then that empty time is also a time of faithful torture.

Time to think about the torture you suffered today and the torture you will suffer tomorrow.

But she says-

I was the one who contributed to the torture you suffered. So, get angry with me.

“Anger?”

He was dumbfounded.

“Be angry, Nina La Dell?”

The fingers that had been caressing the nape of her neck slowly ran across her collarbone and began to unbutton her shirt.

His knuckles moved gently down her upper chest, stopping over her scar. His fingertips caressed the soft and delicate pink flesh that contrasted with her pure white skin as if to sweep around it, in a circle.

Nina felt goosebumps rise along her spine and it was not because she was ticklish.

She swallowed her breath and looked at Adrian, but his dark gaze was not on her face. His eyes were fixed on the scar, Nina wanted to say, ‘I’m fine.’ But she couldn’t speak.

She couldn’t move a muscle.

He lifted his finger from the scar.

“You want me to be angry? How are you going to afford it? Huh, Nina?”

His gaze now turned to hers.

“How?” (Adrian)

His fingers dug into her hair. As soon as her scalp was pulled, Nina meekly tilted her head.

His pink eyes lit up with intense emotion as he looked at Nina.

In front of her, the smile that he had made was broken in an instant, and pain and anger rose from under the surface.

With a distorted face, he kissed her harshly making her body fall over on the carpet. Pressing down on Nina, he violently kissed her.

“!!”

Despite being rough and unkind, the body easily found pleasure. Nina had no intention of closing her mind and body, nor of protecting herself.

She gently swayed as he shook her, and swallowed as he swallowed.

She didn’t even try to release both of her wrists that had been tightly pressed down.

Rather, it was Adrian who clenched his teeth and stopped.

He pulled himself off.

“Why don’t you resist? Is this how you relieve my anger?”

His voice contained sarcasm. Nina looked at him, reached out her hands, and gently caressed his face.

His face hardened to hide his expression, but Nina could tell.

Adrian had a wounded face.

No matter how softly she touches it, it will hurt. Even if she doesn’t touch it, the wound will still hurt.

So what should she do?

“I love you, Adrian.”

Even those words seemed to pain him now, so Adrian turned his gaze away.

If Adrian was on the verge of dying, or if he was dead, what would Nina be like?

‘It must have been very painful.’

So she had no choice but to say, ‘I’m sorry.’

“I’m sorry, Adrian.”

“Then why are you-”

He swallowed his words and Nina said in a small voice.

“It’s okay if Adrian gets mad at me. I don’t want Adrian to swallow all the pain and just smile in front of me.”

You can be angry, you can be depressed.

“It’s okay to get angry and say, ‘Why the hell did you do such a stupid thing?’”

Because we’re not in a relationship that’s made of only soft and sweet things, after all, a relationship shouldn’t be made of only that.
