Yernia was crying from the pain nd it hurt his heart that she thought of him as a dream.

What was he ashamed of in the past?

He was such a fool when he was young that he couldn’t stand himself.

He rushed towards her after being told that Yernia was sick but his shyness made him stop her family members from informing her of his visit.

“Yernia keeps looking for you, Little Duke. She will like it if we tell her you are here.”

Cassian should have just let them talk then.

When she was young, she was so sad that Cassian’s presence was just a dream.

She looked for him earlier because she was scared, but he was nowhere in sight.

It turned out Cassian was in another barracks.

He didn’t want to leave Yernia there and move to another place.

It wasn’t his intention to faint after throwing up blood as a side effect of swallowing a demon.

Well, at least it stopped.

“I’m sorry. I’m so late.”

“You know——”

“Don’t cry, Yernia. You can hit me if it makes you feel better.”

She shook her head.

Yernia didn’t even try to talk to him as her eyes closed from exhaustion.

So that he could wipe her cold sweat better, Cassian gathered Yernia’s hair and settled them on the pillow.

Feeling upset, he stroked Yernia’s hair for a while before pressing a warm kiss on her forehead.

“You’ll get better soon, Yernia.”

A whisper rang out in the barracks.

“My stomach hurts, Cassian.”

She had always been like that.

Yernia couldn’t do anything if she was in pain.

Cassian’s incompetence as Yernia’s husband was terrifying and he hoped that he could rectify that over time.

***

Habin was caught.

He had both hands tied behind his back so he couldn’t move.

Red threads were drawn in his skin as if he had been scratched while running away.

That bastard was injured.

Yernia was lying sick in bed now, and Cassian was not acting normal either.

Due to overexerting himself, he fainted most of the time unless it was time to check Yernia’s condition.

Fortunately, it was after all the urgent things were already disposed of.

After questioning Habin, he said he hated his Esper and tried to escape the barracks.

Sometimes, special bonds were formed between an Esper and their guide since physical contact was inevitable.

Unfortunately, the feelings weren’t mutual in Captain Leward and Habin’s case.

Habin loved Captain Leward but the captain didn’t feel the same.

She only treated him as her guide and that made the situation unbearable on Habin’s part.

The one-sided love turned into violent hatred in an instant.

However, Habin’s situation was none of Cassian’s business.

“Major, I know I’m being presumptuous for asking you this. But, please let me deal with Habin.”

Cassian was staying in a different barracks this time so that Yernia wouldn’t see him weak.

Yernia was already nice but she could get too nice.

Even if she got hurt, she would still worry about others especially if they got hurt because of her.

If he vomited blood in front of Yernia, she would have been sick and worried about him like a mother hen would.

Cassian rose to his feet but a headache pricked him in the temple.

The scented candle he had lit to forget the pain allowed him to endure it a little.

It was typical for soldiers, whose flesh was torn and bodies amputated, to carry scented candles with them.

It would be nice to share this scented candle with Yernia but he didn’t put his thoughts into action since it wasn’t good for her in the long run even though it might help her forget the pain.

“Why should I do that?”

Cassian saw Harbin kneeling in front of him as Captain Leward stood beside him.

Frowning, he only raised his gaze to stare at Captain Leward coldly.

“Captain Leward. I can see how much you care about the guide but this man not only dared to hold my wife hostage, he also stabbed her with a knife and ran away. Do I look like a pushover to you if you ask me to keep him alive?”

It was like that for him too.

Cassian had no intention of leaving Habin alone.

As much as Yernia got hurt because of him, he planned to execute him after returning the helplessness he felt.

A good idea flashed across his mind.

“Yes, Captain Leward. If you wish so, I will give you a chance. It is natural for you to be compassionate to him because you have grown quite attached in the battlefield. I will give you a chance to take your guide’s breath.”

“Major!”

It was a way not to get dirty blood in his hands.

At the same time, his helplessness wouldn’t just end just by Habin dying at the hands of a fellow combatant.

He threw a knife at Captain Leward’s feet and it reflected the glint of sunlight from above.

“As the captain knows, summary execution is also appropriate in this case by military law. Do what you have to do. That’s an order.”

***

Yernia came to her senses in four days.

The side of her stomach wasn’t all better, but at least it didn’t feel worse than before.

At that time, her stomach hurt so much that it was hard to keep her eyes open, but now it felt alright.

Of course, it wasn’t that she wasn’t sick anymore.
