Chapter 11

"So I should focus on getting skills and a [Job] then?" Asked Elizabeth while thinking about the skill parts of her status.

It read now [Job Skills: 3] [General Skills: 2] [Title Skills: 2], it was more concise, even if it listed 3 skills as job skills...While she was jobless. "Why do I have Job Skills if I don't have a Job?" Elizabeth added to her list of questions.

"Those skills are or will influence your job in some way, you could probably move them to [General Skills] if you want to, but those tend to have less Oomph in them, so most allow their job to be molded by them," Rossie answered as such.

So in a nutshell...You could use status points to either move around skills to another place or replace them and have a harder time relearning the skills... Or move them to a [General] slot. That was totally understandable and logical.

"If you choose a job that does not play fair with them the [System] will tell you and either move or delete the skills. You could also pay the status points to have the skill shelved for later use." Rossie added to her previous statement.

Right, that was an option, an option that she wasn't sure how it would work, or whether someone would even want do that, especially with having to pay stat points for that. Why would they even do such a thing? Unless removing a skill refunded previously used stats points? But she doubted those were common.

"Not many do that, since we only get around fourteen status points per level, so that would mean almost a third of your earnings would go into the void. " And Rossie said as such confirming her theory.

But that brought another point to the table...She...didn't get 14 points per level, if her mental math was something to go by...She got around 21 points...

So she could get some of those slots and have enough points to spare, interesting, was this an advantage? She hadn't paid that much attention to anyone else's status points, nor was she sure if the status she had seen previously was something to go by.

This new screen was different from the ones she had grown accustomed to after all, "Okay, I will take that into consideration, so...[Skills]." Elizabeth said while focusing on that part of her status.

And that was all she needed as a new screen showed itself with...Some questionable options.

And she couldn't help herself but ask a simple question.

"What the hell is this?" Elizabeth said while reading some of those skills, she was expecting maybe a dozen or so. Some stuff related to her daily life.

And yes, there were some normal skills there, like the [Run] skill or the [Reading] skill, but why did she even get the [Necromancy] skill?

She never raised a dead! Or she didn't think she did...Did she? Well, leaving that aside, what about [Lockpicking]! She was sure as hell she never did that!

Nor had she any reason to have [Advanced Magic Engineering]! or any of those [Advanced] skills!

Actually, she was seeing a pattern in her skill selection, "The first are...What I expected to get..." Mumbled Elizabeth, she was miffed by the fact that there were quite a few [Baby] skills...Wasn't the system open only after one was five years old? Why was she even seeing those?

"The second...Are what I guess could be justified by what I did as a Powered and as a Magical Girl..." And while she hadn't used any necromancy...She did use some of those other things, both as [Elemental Weaver] and as [The Shadow Empress].

The problem "The third...I have no idea....No wait...Is this because of Alexanders?" Some of those skills she could see the blonde asshole having, but that brought some questions to the front, like...What kind of monster was he if he had so many [Advanced] skills?

Not even her [Father] had advanced on his skills, not that he was less powerful for it... Actually, he might have awakened quite a few advanced ones had he stayed human instead of ascending to a god. Yeah, he could see him having a long list of advanced skills.

Point aside, she needed to be sure. "So the ones I pick determine my Job?" And asked to Rossie.

"The jobs as far as we have discovered are affected by two factors. How you lived your life and what skills you have. If you endeavor in some way you will get those kinds of jobs, teachers get [Teacher] jobs. Doctors get [Doctor] and criminals get [Petty Thief], [Criminal], and such." Teacher Rossie said.

But... "I got my [Achievements] wiped and even have some [Baby] skills, so my job will probably be 100% related to what Skills I have..." Elizabeth said, understanding flashing on her face.

"More than likely, it will be good to check even if you don't pick something now. The fact that you can use magic without using a [Magic Skill] should be enough to get into school, but if not we can get you in some classes so you unlock the [Student] job for now, you should be able to [Evolve] it into another thing later." She what?

"Stop a second there, [Evolving] a job?" Elizabeth asked, "Is that a thing?"

Rossie shrugged "There are options before the big level caps that allow for secondary jobs. If your job naturally continues into something else like a [Student] or [Apprentice] job then yeah, you can evolve it into something else. The [System] seems to be integrating new stuff every now and then." And answered as such.

Yikes, they were beta testers...Or alpha testers?

The thing was still learning. Actually, wasn't she the prime alpha tester?

If this thing was built upon Alexander's Skill, then she was the OG alpha tester, where was her special package skill?!?

Mother's tales included stories about people who got some serious buffs and broken things in this kind of scenario!

No? Nothing?

Well, there goes her secret power up...Granted she was getting half a level more of status per level...So that was big already, at level 2 she had as much status as someone at level 3...And that would only snowball.

"Fine, let's see the [Jobs] then," Elizabeth said summoning the next blue screen, she would decide what skills to get after seeing the list.

And maybe check how they reacted to adding a skill or two in there.

Available Jobs:
-Student
-Child
-Magical Entity
-Baby
-High School student

And that was it, "That's....kinda depressing." Said Elizabeth going over the list, with so many options for skills and so little to go for in her job section.

"Not everyone can have good things Eli-Eli," Rossie said at her side, which explained why her friend only had [Healer] as a [Job].

She decided to tick off one of the available skills and pick up something she was half sure it wouldn't be possible to do on her own. "[Shift]" This one had been the one that she used the most after [Inventory] but that one was built into the [World's System] already.

After she checked the skill and it was added to her skill list a new job made its presence known on her list. "[Magical Girl]" Why was it added at this point?

What was it that made her a candidate for being a [Magical Girl]? The [Shift] spell?

Wasn't a [Magical Girl] something that was...More?

"And so I just need to accept the job?" Asked Elizabeth eyeing the pink-haired girl in the room.

She wasn't sure why Rossie wasn't a [Magical Girl] yet, she should have the qualifications if all one needed was to use the [Shift] spell. That was among the easiest magic to cast after all.

"If you liked any of the options then yes, I would suggest you pick up a [Student] one then transition into [Mage] at the school, and do some [Heroic] things to get either a [Super Hero] or [Magical Girl] variant till you can distill it into what you like." Rossie started saying while she accepted the [Magical Girl] job.

"Wait, why can't I just pick the [Magical Girl] job now ?" And asked Elizabeth with a worried face. She had done just that after all.

"You need to have it first, and we aren't sure what qualifies one as such, we suspect those under the church of [Odyssey] have it easier, but we aren't quite sure why...." Rossie answered while stopping and eyeing her suspiciously. "Eli-Eli...Did you have that as a [Job]?"

"....Yesh...?" Elizabeth wasn't quite sure why they were having such a hard time, after all. "I only grabbed the [Shift] Skill and the [Job] showed up on my list."

Rossie seemed miffed about it somehow "You grabbed [Shift] as a [Skill]? But you can cast spells, why would you?" And that was a very logical thing to ask.

But Elizabeth was serious about her decision, "I never used the spell besides the first day." And answered as such, "Every other instance I was using the [Skill] Alexanders made for me, and that gave me more liberty on my [Shifts] it's the reason why my [Alice] persona was so different. The [Skill] not only helped but made the change seamless." And maybe that was why they were having such a hard time getting the job.

"Hmm...Okay," Rossie answered and seemed to stare into the void, "I will be...You were right." And after some seconds she said as much, "I got the [Evolution] into [Magical Girl - Healer] subclass in one."

Elizabeth couldn't help but smile at that, she was happy that Rossie could move forward, "I find it weird that you couldn't get the [Job] though, haven't you been working hard as a [Magical Girl] all this time?" And so she asked as much.

But Rossie's eyes...They told a story, "Not really...I needed to take care of....some stuff on the side so I was mostly working as an independent healer. I had my hands full already, I probably got the job mostly because I had already qualified for the [Shift] skill, and not because my deeds were something a [Magical Girl] would do." Right, that was fair.

She couldn't expect Rossie to work as a [Magical Girl] if she was taking care of her, "Don't make that face." Rossie said while poking her on the side, eliciting a laugh from her.

"I don't regret any decision I made, if anything I stayed at the school only because I thought you would want to go there, if you tell me you'd rather start working on something else we can do that," Rossie said, firm determination on her adorable face.

"Yeah, I will...register I guess, they might want me to do the whole [Internship] again, not sure how they treat magical girls and [Heroes] nowadays." Elizabeth answered meekly.

Rossie could get intense when she wanted, "And I need to check on this [Job] thing." She said while turning her attention towards her status, and towards the new blue screens that had popped up after she picked the [Job].

Notice:

You have changed into the job [Magical Girl]...

Checking interaction with current [Skills]...Detected [four] [Job] skills and [One] General Skills applicable...

Checking Interaction with current [Titles]...Detected [Two] Title Skills applicable....

Checking interaction with non-active [Titles]....Error....Found [Skill] that goes against the [Ethos] of the [Job]...Filing for check-up...

Coalescing results...

Congratulations!

You have [Evolved] your [Job] into a variant.

New Job active: Magical Hero

As this is a variant of the base job [Magical Girl] you can choose to display it as the base job or the rare variant. Only someone with a [Job] of the same rarity can see the true job.

You are awarded the job Skills:

-Shift

-Mana Manipulation

-Mana Bolt

-Elemental Manipulation (To fuse with any current elemental skill available)

-Danger sense (Others)

-Singing

-Dancing

-Beautiful

-Young Body

-Encore

And once more, half the skills were useful while the other half was...Weird.

She however found something useful on that weird screen, and that was the next blue screen to pop up on her sight.

About Skills:

You have gotten some free skills, you can accept them or deny acquisition, this however will prevent you from acquiring them again by the same method you did this time. In case of a skill sharing the function of another one you currently have, you can move the [Proficiency] of said skill to the new one.

On the other hand, you can choose to move one of these skills to a [General Skill] slot. Moving a skill out of the [General Skill] slot back into the [Job Slot] will require 3 status points.

As a third option, you may take one of your job skills and create a [Extra Slot] by paying five status points. This will allow you to [Save] a skill for later use, allowing you to swap skills on the fly. Do remember that you may only swap into one of those slots once each 72 hours, you may have as many slots as levels you currently have, but each slot will take five status points to create.

So theoretically she could have five extra slots and move a skill into one of those each three days...She only needed to waste 25 points of her status points on that.

She...Wasn't too keen on doing that, and was quite sure no one did that, who would even have enough power to even afford this kind of lifestyle?

It was probably something that sounded fine but was dumb to do, like those skills she got offered, who even would accept them!?!

"Rossie...Are the initial skills all like this?" Elizabeth asked while motioning to her blue screen.

"Oh? You didn't get anything good either?" Rossie answered back, it seemed it was like that for her too, "Yeah, most of the time you get what most people associate with that [Job]. I got a [Masseur] skill because when they think of a [Magical Girl - Healer] they think about a cute girl giving them massages." The pink-haired girl smirked.

"Did you accept it?" Elizabeth asked, she really hoped Rossie accepted it. [System] empowered massages? Yes, please.

"Of course I did...As a [General Skill], look forward to it for tonight " Rossie said in a somewhat sultry voice.

Yeah, she would look forward to it, "What about you?" Rossie asked her, so she would need to give the dumbest skill she got too...

"In my case, it would be either [Danger sense (Others)] or the three skill combo of [Singing], [Dancing] and [Encore]" Elizabeth answered, "I didn't take [Danger Sense (Others)] since it seemed redundant, I could get that information by using magic or having someone point me in the direction of people that needed help."

"Or you could use your summons...Where are your summons anyway?" Rossie said after her.

Right...Her summons..."[Nyx?]" she asked inwards, but got no answer, the shadow dragon was sleeping deep within the core of the ruined city's underground.

His flames still burned in the outer edges but were more sedated. She still didn't feel the connection form towards Nyx as before, she was aware of him in the background, but that was about it, would she need to add the [Minion Summoning] skill?

"Right, I need my [Summons] back." Maybe Rossie wanted to see Beato again too?

She wasn't quite sure about how much of a connection Rossie made with her Little maid, she was called mother by her after all, and they seemed to connect with each other. Was she going to sacrifice a [Slot] to keep Rossie happy though?

Yes, she was going to "Add [Minion Summoning] to Job List." She willed into her Status screen. The system answered as such even with some...Difficulty.

But the skill settled in place in her status screen, and a quick peruse showed her that it was indeed in place, nothing changed for her job, she was still a [Magical Hero], whatever that was.

And making sure the skill was there, she got an inkling on how to use it from the [System], but no mention about being able to summon humanoid summons, only something to designate what she could summon and a small list of summons available.

Summon List:

Shadow Element:

-Ghost
-Devil
-Imp
-Nightshade Sprout
-Shadow Elemental
-Shadow Wolf Pup
-Shadow Ratfolk
-Shadow Whisp

Lighting Element

-Lighting Sylph
-Lighting Sprite

-Lighting Wolf Pup
-Will-o'-Wisp
-Lighting Harpy

Standard Summon

-Bind Familiar
-Pixie
-Fairy
-Minor Golem
-Wolf Pup
-Raven
-Imp
-Goblin

The list wasn't that bad, but...It was bare, while she had some options, her dragons weren't on it. Nor was Nyx for that matter, did she need to make the summon herself using a manual summoning?

"Eli-Eli?" Rossie's voice brought her back from her musings. "Everything okay?" Worry laced the pink-haired voice.

Right, she needed to focus on the present "Oh right, nothing's the matter, it seems the [System] doesn't let me summon my dragons or [Nyx] for the matter, nor any of those that I had before." Elizabeth answered, Rossie's face seemed neutral enough, so maybe she wasn't that worried about Beato?

Or she was supposed to create them from nothing? She wasn't quite sure it would be possible, perhaps something similar could work? But she would need to flex her [Shadow] element quite far...And she wasn't sure her Mana would hold as it was right now.

That was the next problem, wasn't it?

She needed to think about her build..."Rossie, is it possible to reset status points?" And to learn how many times she could do this.

"Hmm....You can...In a way..." Rossie answered tentatively, "If you reset to level 1 you can gain levels again and get new status...It isn't....recommended, since most high levels tend to have bodies modified by mana, and a level 1 doesn't have enough mana to sustain those bodies...So they end up...Bad."

Oh...Right, she could see where that was going. She was having trouble doing what she wanted with her mana already and her body wasn't that mana-dense (Yet). "You can take points from some status, but you need to pay the same amount. So to take 10 points from Wisdom you need to pay 10 points. So you end with a 10-point deficit, so it is also not worth it."

Yeah, so many options that no one used...Probably. For now, she decided to round out her status, she would keep them rounded (Again) for some time. She would however not allow them to stay rounded as far as she allowed before, she would only allow herself to be like this till all her status were around the fiftiess.

Why? Because fifty was a nice number...And she noticed a trend in that most [Heroes] and [Magical Girls] above a certain threshold had the same charisma of fifty. So she would use that as a benchmark.

Status

Name: Elizabeth Starbright

Active Title: [Inductee]

Passive Titles: [Iron-Willed] [Daughter of The Gods] [Hero]

Level: 5

Health: 100%

Mana: 100%

Stamina: 100%

Age: Body (1), Appearance (17)

Soul: (16-years, 9-months)

Strength: 20

Constitution: 20

Agility: 20

Dexterity: 20

Intelligence: 25

Wisdom: 25

Charisma: 24

Job: Magical Hero

Job Skills: 8

General skills: 5

Title Skills: 2

And so she rounded herself to 20...Allowing her Intelligence and Wisdom to be a little above and dumping the rest into charisma since Charisma was the one that brought her to this plan to benchmark herself at 50. If her math was right she had almost the same status as a level 8. So far she was three levels stronger than she should be.

She felt herself grow with power, her mana pool expanding and the echoes of this bleeding inwardly towards her [Soulscape], the place almost felt more [Solid]. But that was about it.

"So Rossie, what's next on the agenda?" Elizabeth asked after finishing her plans for the day.

With some luck after her new status, she would be allowed to go out to play outside!

But only if her girlfriend allowed it of course... "Oh god, what have I become..." Thought Elizabeth while her face turned just a small shade of red.
