Chapter 62

The first stop the blonde did during the day was a library...It wasn't that impressive, to be honest, but then again...She was comparing it to the almost cathedral building that was one-half of her [Soulspace] so maybe it wasn't fair to this public library.

At least the workers here were nice "Right this way." Said the young receptionist that had received her while pointing her towards one of the booths for her to occupy.

"If you need something please do use the internal line to call, someone will come and help you." Said the receptionist before leaving her in the booth.

This small cubicle had everything she would need, from access to an index of books to an internet connection and even a small fridge where she could take drinks and food(And they would be paid by her bracelet it seems).

She had gotten the VIP treatment when they scanned her bracelet, so she was wondering how much clearance had her father stuck her with...He seemed to want to shield her from the more...Bad stuff of the real world during her upbringing. But as soon as she went into the real world...

His meddling stopped. She wasn't turned down at the entrance and a quick query on the computer here showed the same articles Rossie had shown before.

Including [The Pupetmaster] an S-Class Tier [Villain Threat]. A mage that dealt with [Mind Magic] and was famous for using that kind of spells to get random civilians as hand and feet. No one knew his real identity. And he was on his way to becoming a serious trouble.

At least till he encroached into the continental mass where [Avalon] resided. She found a single article, a video actually, of her Mother addressing the [Villain] she just warned him against stepping a single foot into her territory. And nothing else.

It was kind of funny actually, since she didn't raise a threat or her voice, but it worked. The [Villain] stopped growing his momentum and now he is only active in a country called [Zaveria]?

That was something she was looking into, it looked as if [The Twelve] were a more loose organization than she was led to believe. The information she got from it was that they mostly worked independently of each other and in different parts of the world.

[Zaveria] For example, this held almost a sixth of the continental mass of the planet where she lived, which apparently held a name her parents or the schooling system didn't deem important.

Zaanam, granted...That was one heck of a weird name, but then again...It could be worse, she could live on a planet called Earth or Terra or something to do with dirt... Who could live with something like that am I right?

She was digressing. "Zaveria, mostly desolated vast lands that hold two continents of Zaanam. To the east it holds Verilatis and to the west Germania, while they hold an amicable relationship with Germania and Verilatis they held a more strangled one with The Imperium of Izanami after they were found out to be planning to use them as a scapegoat in the first world war. " Read the blonde in the book, noting the names of those other powers to be for further research later.

"To the north, they have the frozen lands where no life can survive so they are a strong people used to living in harsh environments, and while the icy tundras can't be used as farmlands they hold some fertile land to the south, most of their farmland is held behind mountains used as natural barriers against possible enemies." She started skipping pages after that since she wasn't that interested in the geography of the place.

After skipping some information about their politics she found a section that held her interest and started reading once again "This country, however, was among the few ones that didn't fight for presence from [The Twelve] after their second iteration and the end of the first world war. Currently, there are unconfirmed rumors of [Shadow Pact] living among the populace of Zarevia. While the capital (Nevrosk) firmly denies this to the point of not even allocating any budget to [The Twelve] there are some sightings of the mysterious member of [The Twelve]..." And at this, she closed the book.

"I'm going to Zarevia on my next vacation...Next!" Said the blonde while writing just that and throwing the Note into her shadow for safe keeping in her [Inventory].

"Britania..." Read her next book and it even had a shield crest with some gold decorations. "...Founded by blablabla....Current stronghold of The Saintsworth Conglomerate blablablabla..." Started skipping the girl ignoring most of this in her search for information about who or what lived here. "...And for that reason [The Traveler] was deemed the lucky chosen from [The Twelve] to live here. He was awarded a noble peerage of [Duke] and a monthly stipend, he donated most of his money to The Saintsworth's Conglomerate who in turn used it to fund orphanages for the needy." Finished reading the blonde girl.

"So they are the ones that funded the orphanages in [Britania]?" Wondered aloud the blonde girl, after that, she started writing another note "If I end near the capital [Camelot]...Give a complaint to the royals about Rossie's Orphanage." Said out loud the blonde girl as she wrote, then also threw said note into her [Inventory].

"Next!" She was starting to like saying that out loud while grabbing the next book. It seemed these booths had very good sound isolation.

"Germania..." The next one was a bloody red book that even managed to look ominous. " The former known as The Empire of Germania was a harsh and pure meritocracy..." Started reading the blonde girl while going over the information.

It described an empire that fought against almost all the powers to be and kickstarted the first world war, the one that made the first powereds to fight...And in a way, the reason that her father ended up fighting in to make end.

"At the end of the war and with the order from [The Twelve] two of its members were chosen to reside and monitor the government in its capital of Eldenstadt." That was...Scary.

A non-governmental force imposing its might against a political power? A quick search in the computer gave her the answer of who was living as a monitor right now "[The Sniper] and [The Juggernaut]..." And sure enough, there was a picture of a behemoth of what should be a human.

A living armor that stood almost three meters tall if she was comparing it against the houses and other people around, right next to the article was a video. After playing it she found said figure fighting against a group of powereds and mages.

It seemed that a group of [Villains] wanted to get them out of town "Free The Reich from the outsiders!" Screamed one of the rebels, behind him, she barely could see someone conjuring magic circles.

It seemed that some mages were among them...A funny thought since her mother always said that most mages don't like powereds since their powerset doesn't mix that well.

But if [The Juggernaut] was indeed a powered as his appearance suggested that was a good way to deal with him. She didn't get to see how that hero dealt with it though.

*BANG*

Since a gunshot put everyone in a panic, and sure enough the mage that was casting his spell fell to the ground, after that a few extra shots, and others also fell after him. [The Sniper] was looking.

The video ended soon enough with that group either smashed into the ground, or with its brain smashed against the ground.

No wounds in the behemoth that was [The Juggernaut] nor the presence of [The Sniper] was found. From the video itself and how the bodies fell one could think that there were more than one snipers though.

Since nobody fell in the same direction and they all hid covering different vantage points, but they all fell from a gunshot wound in the middle of their forehead.

"Scary." Was all the blonde could say about that "But effective."

She just shuddered and crossed Germania from her visit options, she would stay away from that place if she could. No way in hell she was messing around with a place that held that kind of monster.

"The Imperium of Izanami..." Was the next book on her list. "A previously isolated nation that is mostly a group of islands and archipelagos." Started reading, she wasn't in the mood of skipping as much as before "Famed for his [Mages] and their focus in [Contracts]..."That was interesting if nothing else. "In their capital [Kaguya] the most famed one is the heir of their current [Shogun], [The Elementalist] formerly known as Crown Prince Oda Ryuuji. " ...What?

Weren't their names...Secret?

Did this man just reveal his identity to the world at large?

And if it was this easy to find how had she not known of it before?

She searched the name and sure enough, there was a picture of a nondescript man in what looked like a traditional robe...A further search of [The Elementalist] found the same man but now with a more [Mage] looking clothing, but sure enough they held the same face.

"...He currently lives as [Mage] for [The Twelve] with his base of operation at the capital [Kaguya] with his bodyguard that also joined [The Twelve] and now works as [The Beastmaster]." At least that one didn't reveal his name to the world.

She however only found photos of him in the background of other members of [The Twelve] it seemed that he wasn't that fond of getting into the spotlight...Not even [Shadow Pact] was that hard to find and his whole deal was secrecy!

"The American Federation..." She pondered if she should read that one. " Capital known as [Avalon] location unknown..." She skipped information on Avalon...Or more like the pages that held tons of useless speculations. "[The American Crusader] and [The Stardust Explorer] Live there and no further information is provided in the last fifteen years without explanation. Any information will be rewarded." Ended the book.

So dearest father and precious Mother cut the contact with the world after she was born?

That was...Odd...She knew her parents were what many would call 'Helicopter parents' but she wasn't aware that it was that bad.

She would speak with them about that later.

"Next!" Giggled the blonde girl while grabbing the next book, by now she would think that someone would have come to pester her about making a ruckus but no one was coming so the isolation must be really good.

"Veritalis." Was what read in the last book in her small pile. "A small power that used to hold the center of one of the oldest religions in the world. It raised in power and might after the advent of [Magic] since the priests managed to make contracts with their deities...Making the capital [Zephyria] the hub for both [Priests] and [Shamans]." She found it funny how a religious capital would summon both priests and shamans since the second ones usually made contracts with devils and demons.

"Currently [The Prophet] and [The Warlock] are known to reside here managing both spectrums of [Faith Magic] in the world." Ended the book.

That was weird...Shouldn't those two be at odds since their patrons are enemies?

One would think someone called [The Warlock] would be a contracted mage to a demon or something...If anything his appearance spoke of that. Especially with all of that blue skin and horns thing he had going.

But she wasn't the one that made the rules so she shrugged and moved "NEXT!" on...

The next book the blonde grabbed was one that spoke at length "About [Triggers] and [Awakenings]" it said on its first page.

"A [Trigger] or [Trigger Event] happens when the [Skill] sleeping in the powered is stimulated by the energy of its holder. [The Skill] will read the intentions and character of his holder and mold itself to the needs of him. If during duress a [Skill] that was meant to be physical can [Trigger] as a strength, speed or endurance [Skill] depending if its holder needs to Fight, run or just survive..." The book spoke about [Skills] as if they would mold themselves as how one needed them...?

"And if the [Skill Bearer] were to suffer duress at a younger age then we have the event mostly known as a [Bad Trigger]. In which case a [Skill] either awakens partially or in a twisted way. Most of the time the [Skill] harms the bearer or in unlucky events harms those near him. Runaway fires that hold no regard for allies or the user... Regeneration that creates cancerous tumors..." The list went on and on about terrible outcomes, from examples of speedsters that ran into walls to flying powers that couldn't be turned off.

It was a list of the worse that a powered could end with, and ended with "The lucky ones are those that hold powers that are too strong but don't harm the user. Since those can work as [Heroes] for either private or government-owned enterprises, where they are allocated [Tinker Grade] equipment to mitigate the worst parts of their power. Allowing them a normal life." And it ended at that.

She...Was worried, some parts of the descriptions were scarily similar to how she couldn't control her powers in her latest outbreak, or how her shadows would manifest themselves as weapons aimed at those that angered her.

Granted she hadn't hurt anyone...Nor herself...She hadn't hurt Rossie in her more recent outbreak of emotions, but she wasn't sure if that was Nyx helping her or not. She didn't feel that Nyx was 100% under her control either, as the shadow dragons seemed intelligent and independent enough.

Even if her [Skill] said they weren't alive.

She needed to know more about this. But who could she ask?

A quick search on the net about how to deal with bad triggers didn't help either "Usually to deal with a bad trigger you call the local powered organization, be it [Hero] or [Goverment]...blablabla" She scrolled more skipping the propaganda and arrived at what she needed "Were they will assign a [Hero] with a similar powerset as the [Bad Trigger]. So they can reign the outburst till a [Tinker Type Powered] can work a suitable equipment to control the [Skill]."

...So she needed another [Shadow] type powered to help her control her outbursts?

...She looked at the pamphlet her father had given her, a search on the net had given her the information of that [Villain]. She indeed held a [Shadow Theme] for her antics...

She really didn't want to go to her since she didn't know how much her father had meddled with that [Villain] nor what he had told her...

She would need to think about this.
