She was staring at the reception desk of the clinic, an office lady answering calls and directing everything and everyone around, soon enough someone else arrived at the reception desk and took a couple of files from the office lady so she could focus on the people waiting.

"You there! Magic girls, that way!" Said the office lady when she noticed her and Rossie, she was swamped with work and different kinds of papers all around her.

The pink-haired girl nodded and nudged her "Let's go [Elemental Weaver]," and started walking in the direction they had been pointed.

Soon after a few hallways, they found themselves in front of a door with a [Staff Only] sign, the pink-haired girl knocked on it and waited a few seconds.

"Yes?" Said the voice of a nurse-looking woman after opening the door, she was [Nurse looking] because while she was dressed in the clinic's color and was wearing scrubs, she still gave off a little [Mana] from her body.

"Oh [Sylphie Starheart] welcome, and you are…?” Said the nurse-looking woman at the blonde girl, she gave her a one-over and frowned for some reason… While her clothing wasn’t that amazing it showcased multiple stars of different colors all around, it had some influences from Mother’s [Shift] but it was still mostly sky blue. Was it because usually the [Magical Girls - Healers] used Pink?

“Good Morning, I’m [Elemental Weaver] the [Partner] of [Sylphie]. I am an…” Started saying Elizabeth when suddenly she was interrupted by the [Nurse].

“Oh yeah, the [Guard] and [Assistant].” She got interrupted by the woman with a dismissal expression, “I hope you can at least work as a [Battery] we don’t have enough workers and they send me a [Novice] as if the clinic didn’t have enough power to defend itself…” Grumbled the woman while opening the door and showing them both a small room.

“What are you waiting for? Go in.” Motioned the woman, while walking in and sitting in one side of the room, pointing to a couch for both girls to sit in.

Both girls looked at each other and walked in, closing the door behind them. “First of all [Elemental Weaver], I don’t want you here. You are here because the [School] wants to give you experience as [Guard] for whatever reason, and frankly… I don’t care.” She said while fishing a form.

At the top was her name as [Elemental Weaver] and some notes about her, “They deemed you an [Exceptional Talent] in spell crafting and want you to get some experience to see if you are talented as [Healer] but I can’t be bothered to waste [Mana] in that. We don’t have enough hands as it is, so here have a look.” After her rant, the woman grabbed a book and offered it to her.

“ [Healing Magic: How to start]…?” Read the blonde girl while checking it over, it had been signed by [Magical Girl - Triage Rush], a somewhat famous magical girl that rose to B rank in record time before disappearing.

She was one of those weird [Magical Girls] that stopped working after making it to the big circles, “So she can read!” Said the woman while turning to Rossie, “Your guard is better than the average, you are sure about wanting to keep her around?” Asked the [Nurse] while looking at Rossie.

“I can use my [Authority] to send her in [Scouting] missions if you need.” Said the [Nurse] while ignoring the blonde girl.

Elizabeth ignored both and just started reading the book, it seemed to speak about how to build the correct magical circles and how to work their way so the caster could use the mana of the victim to help them [Heal], it was a good way to save [Mana] and helped both caster and victim, the [Healer] would save mana and the victim could stimulate their own healing factor so it could continue working way more than a normal [Heal] spell.

The formulae of the [Spell] was one of the more efficient ones she had ever seen too, she made a mental note to save that formulae and see if she could sneak it into her own [Spells] later.

“Yes [Head Nurse], she is very talented in Spell crafting…I wouldn’t be surprised if she could cast [Heal] already.” Said Rossie bringing back the blonde girl from her musings, she had been focusing on the information in the book since it was full of new things she hadn’t known before.

“Oh, that? Yeah…I studied one [Healing] matrix spell before coming here since I would be around a Clinic environment.” Said the blonde girl while conjuring a magic circle in front of her and comparing it to the information she had on her other hand.

Then after comparing them both, she summoned another extra magic circle “[Magick Circle] + [Mana] + [Transform] + [Mold] = [Magick Engineering]” And after making sure the [Spell] worked as she wanted, she started editing the spell to add the functions detailed in the book.

She started editing the flux, the mana battery, even the [Engine] the spell used to work, soon enough her magic circle was totally different from how it had been before, “My previous spell database was somewhat incomplete it seems…” Said the blonde girl while closing the book, it had some interesting stuff, to say the least, and after thinking for a few seconds she added “Say…Can I keep this one? It had some interesting stuff about [Spell Casting] and [Spell Matrix], not only for healing spells…”

For her part, the [Nurse] laughed and said, “Yeah sure, I can see why they said that you had a [Knack] for [Spell casting]. The book was meant to be for [Sylphie] but you can share it with her, this girl didn’t need that much help to cast [Healing Spells].” At least the [Head Nurse] wasn’t outright hostile anymore, so the blonde girl had that going for her.

“You will be expected to cast that [Heal] spell, and while I can’t force you to learn the higher variants nor the [Diagnosis] spells, since as far as the [School] shared with us, your [Affinity] isn’t in [Healing]. You will be expected to help [Sylphie] as much as possible, do you know the [Mana Transfer] Spell? Or will you need a primer for that too?” Asked the [Head Nurse] while searching around for another book in the back.

“I know the spell and can start it from my side.” Said Rossie.

“I know how to [Drain] and [Merge]…I have the spell matrix for [Funnel] so I could create a spell using those…?” Answered after the blonde girl, she hadn’t thought to make a spell dedicated to that…

Nor had she thought to build the [Spell Node] in her [Soulscape] for transferring mana to someone else, why would she need to do that as a [Magic Girl]? It just never crossed her mind.

“Yeah…They never think to add that to their repertoire…Not many [Healers] do either…Usually, only those weird magic-focused ones do, but they don’t use it that often for [Healing]…Here it is!” Said the [Head Nurse] after finding another book and passing it to the blonde girl.

“[Usefull Spells for Combat Healing – By Magical Girl Triage Rush]” Another book from that magical girl… Was this Head Nurse…

“Don’t even think about it,” said the Head Nurse before Elizabeth could even say anything, “ You can keep that one, we haven’t had the need for that in a long time anyway.” Added the head nurse before walking towards the door.

She turned towards both girls and motioned for them to follow, “[Sylphie Starheart] already knows the place but we will do another tour anyway since you will be needed to move around.” And guided them both into the inner parts of the clinic.

The place was relatively small, on the first floor, with only a reception area “So we have reception here,” said the Head nurse showing them the part they had come from, “Usually you will not enter from this area, after the tour I will key your [Mana Signal] to our security ward so you will enter from the employee door in the back…Or the top floor if you can [Fly].”

They then moved towards the elevator and the blonde girl noticed how a few extra buttons materialized, “All elevators will show extra buttons if they detect a [Magical Girl] a [Hero], or a [Wizard], these are for two basements and the [Real Staff Room] as we like to call it, also there is the [Hero Wing] were you will see both powered and magical patients.” And after explaining what the extra buttons were for, the head nurse pushed the one for [Staff].

Then after going up for a minute or so they arrived at an empty floor, it was a luxurious one with vending machines, plenty of sofas, and even a high-definition holo-projector…But still was devoid of people.

“We mostly use this for meetings and eating,” Said the head nurse pointing to one corner of the floor where a couple of tables were set up, a nurse was eating in one of those while writing furiously with her other hand.

But besides that, the pool table, the air hockey table, the arcade machines…The Holo projector…The Karaoke machine…It was all unused and alone, “Don’t know why they thought it would get used…To be honest, these are mostly for the doctors and maybe the administration staff, but they don’t come here since they get glared by the occasional nurse that is eating here.” Said the head nurse while walking back towards the elevator.

Elizabeth took notice that there was a bookshelf with some logos similar to the ones the [Magical Girl – Triage Rush] books she had in her hand, so she would come later here to see if possible.

“Now…The area you will work most often is here,” said the Head Nurse while pushing the button for the [Hero Wing], this was less than a moment away before the doors opened and they had arrived at another floor.

This one was full of activity unlike the previous one, with nurses going from one side to the other without stopping, “Here we have the patients with more active mana emissions…” Said the Head nurse while walking towards the nurses central in the middle of this maelstrom of movement, “Aka…The [Heroes] and [Magical Girls / Wizards]…You will find both [Masked] and otherwise here, please do not disclose identities if you do find one…” She said while grabbing a file from there and putting it on the desk.

She waited till both girls were close enough to open it, “As example…Here we have…Oof…[Magical Girl – Love Explosion]…A recurring client…” in the file was a small description of the magical girl in question and her diagnosis.

[Soul gash], a wound in her [Soulscape] that was made after…”I swear you [This was the one!]…” Heard Elizabeth from one of the nearby cubicles, behind the curtain she could barely see a frilly pink dress before it was fully closed.

“That girl comes every few months or so with her [Shift] barely in place and bleeding all over, she tries to [Link] her [Soulscape] to someone to prove her [Devotion], and then when the other side doesn’t reciprocate she rips apart the connection destroying part of the [Soulscape] and injuring herself in the act.” Finished saying the head nurse while placing the file in front of both girls.

It indeed detailed her as a [Recurring client] and the extent of her injuries, it depicted several failing organs in need of [High Heal] and [Regenerating Magick] to restore, some suggested school of spells to use, and a description of how much [Mana] they would need to siphon from the girl to pay for the service.

“Wait, they pay with mana?” Asked the blonde girl after arriving at that part.

“Of course, not many have enough money to pay A-Tier or B-Tier Spells, [Vigilantes] certainly don’t… and [Villains] usually only have illegal money, so we charge them with mana to prevent those problems.” Answered back the head nurse, “Also this way the [Healer] can recharge while treating them so they can work more.” Finished with a smirk the head nurse, that was evil… If they could use the mana of the client to recharge…Then the Healers wouldn’t need to rest.

The blonde girl kept reading in the file and found that this magical girl spoke about her [Soulscape] just enough to form a link with her [Destined one], but those she picked rarely felt the same towards her, more than half the time they rejected her if not outright ignored her. So she ripped the connection injuring herself and trying to get them by guilt…

It worked…The first time, but afterward the clinic called them and told them that she was like that, but since she was also a B-Tier [Magical Girl]…They couldn’t get her into a rehabilitation facility, so they dealt with her and sent her home after she was good enough…They did however charge her five times the normal pricing.

“So…Do you have cases about [Soulscape] this often?” Asked the blonde girl thinking about the connection [Her Rossie] had made with her, “And are these [Links] visible?”

“Like hers? Not that often…Usually, people know to not share information about their [Soulscape]……” Started saying the head nurse before narrowing her eyes and looking at the blonde girl, “Did you share information about your [Soulscape] and were thinking about severing the link?”

The head nurse was glaring at her daggers at this point, “No no…I mean…I tried…But…”Said meekly the blonde girl, speaking lower and lower by the second, “The connection didn’t form…”

The head nurse was glaring at her but got distracted when Rossie said “It’s okay [Elemental Weaver], I already told you I don’t mind…” and then she stopped glaring at her and turned to Rossie instead.

A flash of understanding on her face “I will be right back, sorry but this takes precedence.” She said to one of the other nurses before grabbing both girls and getting them back to the staff floor.

Once there she took them both to an empty corner and sat them on a couch while grabbing a chair to herself and sitting in front of them, a magical circle materialized in her eyes and she looked both girls up and down “I don’t see evidence of any recent soul injuries…” She mumbled, while looking at Rossie’s way a few extra seconds, “When was the [Link] formed?” She asked in a tone that implied there wouldn’t be a discussion.

“Today, five minutes ago.” Answered Rossie narrowing her eyes and she could feel her core starting to stockpile mana.

She could feel how she was preparing to cast a spell?

“Hmm…” The head nurse turned towards Elizabeth and narrowed her eyes, “And you felt the connection?”

“Yes,” answered the blonde girl, “I come from [Avalon] so didn’t know that speaking about my [Soulscape] could form a connection like that…So when [Sylphie] explained about it and talked to me about her [Soulscape] to make an example…” Said the blonde girl while lowering her head and speaking softer the next part, “I tried to describe my [Soulscape] as much as possible but the connection wasn’t made.”

The head nurse narrowed her eyes at that and took a pen from one of her pockets, the pen had a small little heart-shaped cap on it, she pointed it at her and intoned “[Truth Detector], now answer me…How much of your [Soulscape] did you use to try and form a connection?” She could feel the [Idea] radiate from that spell.

It gave her the feeling of inviolable truth, that any and all deceptions be from half-truths or outright lies would be discovered, “I described the main functions of my [Soulscape], the architecture, design, and parts of it.” Answered the blonde girl, the spell flared green once and then returned to normal.

The face of the head nurse for the other part…Was more interesting, doubt, astonishment, disbelief, curiosity…All flared for an instant before it returned to a more professional look, “How many years have it been since your [Awakening]” asked now the head nurse.

“Since the first day of classes…So half a year at most?” Answered the blonde girl, it surely felt as such, they had been thrown at the midterms so at least half a year already…

By the end of these, she would be probably sixteen years too…

She couldn’t continue that train of thought as the spell flared half green and the head nurse looked confused, “Repeat after me: As far as I’m concerned I [Awakened] at school the first day of classes.” She said with a frown.

So the blonde girl obliged “As far as I’m concerned I [Awakened] at school on the first day of classes.” And the spell flared green once more, this time fully green.

“Interesting…If you awakened at school your [Soulscape] should be small, probably just big enough for only your conscience to enter in it, your [Friend] here said she awakened at five, and she should barely have enough space for a [Room], if she is as talented as we think she is…” Said the head nurse pointing at Rossie, “But your use of words and descriptions…By the way, work on those, you need to be more vague…” Added the Head nurse before carrying on, “Implies that your [Soulscape] is big enough that you need to use the word [Architecture] and [Parts of it]… I was a [Magical Girl] that made it to A-Tier, and only when I made it to those levels of powers did I ever need to use words such as [Parts of my Soulscape] to describe it and make [Links].” She said while nursing her head as if a headache was forming.

“That is a good idea by the way, if you divide it while it grows to create [Parts] you can make [Links] to those parts, and then if you need to [Sever] the link the injury is more contained,” said the Head Nurse while going to one of the machines and getting a coffee drink, she returned and offered a couple to both girls while adding, “If your [Soulscape] is as big as implied…Then you are a monster and there should be no reason why a [Link] wasn’t formed.”

Then after thinking for a few seconds, she added “I would advise against forming a [Link], there are a few spells stuck in your head that seem to be [Wards] they may be the reason why the [Link] didn’t formed, but I doubt they are…If you truly want to make one with your…Friend?” Asked the head nurse, as if she wasn’t sure what term to use.

“Yes I want to reciprocate the trust [Sylphie Starheart] had in me to form a [Link]” Answered the blonde girl.

Rossie had done much for her, and she didn’t mean only about the food.

“Then try to drag her into your [Soulscape], you might need to find a high ranking [Spell] or [Ritual] but that will need to wait for your return to school…Or for you to go to a [Saintsworth’s Sponsored Library], they might have the spell…But you will need to have enough [Clearance] and honestly…It might be better to wait for school either way.” Finished saying the head nurse.

So she would need clearance…She had enough with the bracelet her parents had given her… But, was she ready for [Rossie] to meet Alexanders and Alexa?

She wasn’t quite sure, “But for now we have work to do, just…Try to not sever the [Link] nor [Create] a new one while you work here please?” Said the Head nurse while looking at both girls.

What? She wasn’t going to create those links willy-nilly…

Why would she…

Then it hit her, of course…[Love Explosion] created those for her [Lovers]…

WAIT!

Did…DID SHE THOUGHT SHE AND ROSSIE WERE LOVERS?!?!?

The blonde girl’s face quickly turned beet red at the thought “Not judging you both…God knows I don’t have enough energy nowadays to waste it on that.” Said the head nurse while walking towards the elevator. “You coming?” She beckoned both girls.

She didn’t have enough presence of mind to turn to watch Rossie’s face, but by the fact that the other girl stayed behind her, she was probably the same as her.

She would kick [Love Explosion] later in the wild if possible, she had created such a big misunderstanding!

She only wanted to share a [Link] with her girl friend!

That it was one of the most intimate [Links] available wasn’t the main point!

IT WASN’T THE POINT OKAY!
