Chapter 119

Looks like the poison gas I inhaled when I threw the flare into the anaconda monster’s mouth last night was the problem.

‘Somehow, I kept thinking that there was a strange smell coming from my body. It must have been because I was poisoned.’

When the headache completely went away and my head cleared up, I was worried about the people I left behind.

Yeah, there’s no way Enoch and Kaden would do anything bad to me. There must have been a misunderstanding. I should have listened to them.

But even if I had heard the circumstances, would I have processed it rationally at the time? Probably not.

I was the idiot who ran away, unable to distinguish between delusion and truth with a confused mind.

“Dammit.”

I fixed my crossbody bag and looked around. I lost my way while running away.

Even though Eunji could sense my location, it was hard to find anyone else, so I had to move on my own.

“Is everyone looking for me?”

Regardless of whether the conversation I overheard last night is true or not, they will be looking for me.

Most of all, when I ran away alone, they looked at me in panic and despair as if the world was about to collapse.

“Okay. Let’s meet first and ask.”

I go alone or not depending on their answer.

I took the map out of my crossbody bag. However, even after looking at the map for a hundred days, it was hard to pinpoint where I was because there was no river nearby and no obvious terrain.

‘If I shoot a flare, it’s obvious that monsters will come in droves.’

I had no choice but to move in search of flat terrain with enough sunlight to check the cardinal directions.

On flat ground, I placed a long branch. Then, after confirming the cardinal directions with the direction of the shadow, I unfolded the map again.

I have to go further west to get to the cave where I met the giant anacondas. After figuring out my current location, I quickly made my move again.

Fortunately, I didn’t run too far, so I got to the cave before the sun went down. However, there were no traces of people remaining in the cave except for the place where the bonfire was made.

I gently touched the unlit bonfire. There was no warmth whatsoever. It seems like it’s been a while since people left.

‘It’s kind of like deja vu.’

I’ve been through this before. At that time, Enoch returned while I was looking for him around the cave. Will it be like that again now?

Without hesitation, I sat at the entrance of the cave and waited for Enoch, Kayden, and Ruzef.

The sun was setting, casting red shadows across the sky. Sitting still at the entrance of the cave, I looked up at the sky.

Even though I know it’s dangerous to stay here like this, I’ll stay. Just in case everyone returns.

So I keep waiting.

-ssssa.

Eunji flicked his tongue out as if uneasy, and slithered back and forth from place to place. I sat blankly and stared at Eunji passing the time away like that.

Dusk soon came. And no one had returned.

‘Should I wait one more day?’

In fact, it might be better to go to the bunker alone. I took out the notebook I found in Jenas’ cabin from my crossbody bag and unfolded it.

– I heard that Jenas told you about the gate. I’ll be there soon. Wait for me there.

It was a message written on the last page. It was obviously a different font from the previous ones.

‘Gate.’

And under that sentence were written letters that were very difficult to recognize.

I took out the flashlight Jenas gave me and looked at the diary carefully. There were marks left by the pen, so I could read the letters only after looking at them for a long time.

– I’ll tell you how to get Margaret.

Wait, what is this? How to get Margaret……?

-rustle.

But there was no time to think further about that. It was because I heard the sound of something moving nearby.

I quickly turned off the flashlight, put it and the book in my bag, held the flare gun in my hand, picked up Eunji from the ground, and brought him into the cave. Then I quietly covered the entrance to the cave with leaves.

Holding Eunji in my arms, I sat down against the cave wall and held my breath.

-rustle.

The sound of feet stepping on leaves came closer and closer.

-step, step.

Then comes the sound of footsteps. It was so harsh that it couldn’t be thought of as Enoch’s or Kayden’s.

I held my breath and peered out through the leaves that covered the entrance to the cave. There was a fish that moved slowly on two legs.

‘It’s gross.’

However, more gruesome scenes unfolded one after another.

-flapping, flapping.

A bird flew up near the two-legged fish. The jaws of the fish that spotted the bird opened wide. Before long, a long tongue like a caterpillar with sharp teeth protruded out and swallowed the bird.

‘Fxxk. What is that?’

I was so shocked that I was grinding my teeth, holding back a scream that was about to burst out.

The fish that swallowed the bird looked around. I held my breath watching its movements. At that time, the fish who was scanning the surroundings quickly fixed its gaze in my direction.

-gasp. I covered my mouth with my palm. Then I quietly stepped back and pressed my body closer to the cave wall.

-step.

-step.

I was too scared to check the situation outside the cave, so I just tightly closed my eyes. The sound of footsteps approaching the cave entrance was getting closer.

-rustle.

I slowly opened my eyes to the sound of crunching leaves covering the cave entrance. And I made eye contact with the fish monster sticking its head into the cave.

My heart almost stopped.

At that moment, Eunji suddenly poked his head out of my arms and opened his mouth wide.

-kwaah!

He showed his sharp fangs as if threatening the monster.

He is a small anaconda, but his spirit and intimidation are truly amazing. The fish monster faltered and then pulled its head out of the cave.

As if Eunji had been waiting, he spewed fire at the fish.

-kwaah!

The fish screamed and stepped back as its head caught fire. I hurriedly picked up Eunji, jumped out of the cave, and ran into the forest.

Fortunately, I didn’t hear footsteps following behind me.

Was Jenas watching? He said he wasn’t always watching through the eyes of a monster. I hope that’s true.

As I frantically ran through the bushes, my feet got caught in the roots and I tripped onto the ground.

“Ouch!”

I screamed and flinched. A thin, sharp twig was embedded in my left forearm.

“Fxxk.”

It hurt so much that I cried.

Damn, where did everyone go? The pain caused the sadness to come over me again.

I looked down at my forearm, wiping away my tears, and took a slow, deep breath. I had to pull out the twig stuck in my forearm.

Phew.

Taking another deep breath, I reached out my trembling hand. And as soon as I grabbed the twig, I pulled as hard as possiblet.

“Ahhhhh– eub.”

I endured the pain, took as many deep breaths as I could, and tried to calm myself down. Tears continued to flow even as I took deep breaths.

I took the bandage out of my crossbody bag with trembling hands. It was the same bandage used to wipe off the anaconda’s poison a while ago.

‘There’s no point in stopping the bleeding because it’s definitely got bacteria in it……’

If I rip my t-shirt, it would turn into a bikini. The pants are also an ambiguous material to rip and use as a bandage.

I had no choice but to fold the bandage in half and place the cleaner part over my wound and start wrapping it around my forearm.

After bandaging all the wounds, I sat down on the ground and relaxed a bit. Tears flowed non-stop down my cheeks. It was painful, difficult, and sad.

“Dammit, I’m hungry in the middle of this.”

I mumbled while wiping the tears with the back of my hand.

Then I looked up. The sun was setting and the sky was turning purple. If it gets darker, your movements will become slower and you won’t be able to respond quickly to monster attacks.

I had no choice but to find a place to hide for the night.

At that time, Eunji, who had been following me slithering on the ground, tapped my leg with his head and slithered away. Then he looked back at me, slithered, and then looked at me again.

Usually, when he asks me to follow him, he shows that kind of behavior. I quietly walked along, following Eunji with the flare gun in my hand.

As I continued walking through the bushes, Eunji stopped at one point and slithered around.

“Why here? There’s nothing here.”

It’s just an ordinary forest with only tall trees and no place to hide.

Eunji continued to slither around in place. I stroked my chin as I watched what he was doing.

Then I noticed that the ground I was stepping on was shaking suspiciously.

Eunji slithered away as I got down on one knee in front of him. My hand slowly swept across the ground, revealing a wooden plank.

“What……”

There is a doorknob attached.

Eunji slithered around the wooden plank with a curious face as if he didn’t know exactly what it was either.

I slowly turned the wooden plank’s doorknob and stairs leading down into the ground appeared.

I was speechless for a moment and stared down the stairs. Why the hell is this here?
