If he wasn’t completely wrong, then this was the disciple of Elder Baili with whom his own disciple had fallen in love once when he met him at an inter-sect competition. He himself had only gotten a glimpse of him once so he barely remembered his looks but … he had heard a little more of his voice when he had almost interrupted his disciple trying to woo him and seeming to be a bit successful at it.

He couldn’t quite tell how long it had been since then but he felt that it should have been at least three decades ago. Ordinarily, he might not even have been remembered. It was just … matters hadn’t unfolded as simply as they might have seemed at first.

The problem had been that his disciple wasn’t the only one who tried his luck at that time. Apart from him, there had been a disciple of the Jian Chu Sect and even another disciple who studied under their Li Ren Sect’s Elder Nanmen.

Neither of them knew about the others at first but when they found out that there were another two love rivals yearning for the same beauty, they naturally weren’t happy. There were some arguments about who had met him when but nobody wanted to accept that the others were somehow more deserving of his attention and the disciple of the Teng Yong Sect didn’t seem like he was about to make a decision anytime soon.

In the end, those three decided to solve the issue amongst themselves by relying on the traditional way of letting their fists speak. Unfortunately, neither was matched up against the other in the official inter-sect competition so they came to blows outside of it before the first round had happened. As a result … all three of them ended up too injured to take part in the competition and lost their sects a chance to win.

Diao Huan and the Masters of the other two had all been furious when they found out about the story behind the fight. How could they fight because of something like this? Had they lost the ability to think?! If the others had insulted them or their sect, they would have somewhat understood but … for a man? Of course, this was indeed a very beautiful man but … did this have to be before the competition? Couldn’t they have waited?!

Diao Huan and Elder Nanmen were especially vexed as they were of the same sect. So thanks to their irresponsible disciples’ behavior that led to them being unable to compete, their Li Ren Sect’s results that year look extremely embarrassing. They could hardly lift their heads in front of the other three great sects until the following inter-sect competition.

Needless to say, whether it was Diao Huan’s disciple or the one learning under Elder Nanmen, they had both gotten in trouble afterward. He himself had dragged his disciple to a century-old pond to soak and cleanse his mind from extraneous thoughts alongside his body and then stuffed him into closed-door cultivation for close to a year.

When the youth finally stepped out again, he was indeed calmer than before but that couldn’t change what had already happened. Even thinking back now, Diao Huan still felt that the whole matter was unbelievable. Well, at the very least, he had done so until now but that might only be because that glimpse of this disciple he had gotten had truly been too short and in the wake of everything else that happened, he had soon forgotten about it.

Looking at Luo Lin now, Diao Huan understood his disciple’s fervor back then much better. Even though, compared to his disciple, he had absolutely no interest in men whatsoever, he still had a pair of functioning eyes and he had to admit that this person truly was a breath-taking beauty. With the snowy skin, the red lips, and that pair of phoenix eyes, it was no wonder that three grown men would fight for his favor. Not that it seemed like that mattered any longer.

Diao Huan glanced at how close Luo Lin stood next to Shen Lei, with their hands almost touching, and also noticed the faint displeasure on the other disciple’s face that had slowly crept up as he was looking at Luo Lin a little longer. Obviously, somebody had already managed to snatch up the beauty his disciple and the other two men had gone crazy over. If they were aware, who knew if they’d still be heartbroken?

Elder Diao raised his brows and decided not to think about it any longer. Even back then, it hadn’t been this disciple’s fault that those three went crazy for him. From what he knew, he hadn’t even encouraged them and at most hadn’t clearly signaled whether he liked a certain one better than the others. And now, none of that was relevant any longer. Instead, he should focus on the matter at hand and see what kind of news these two had brought.

Making up his mind, Diao Huan retracted his gaze and instead checked the letter Fa Ai Jun had written to make sure it was what it seemed to be. Finding the markings of the Zhen Yan Sect on it, he nodded to himself and slowly read through the content. As he did, his brows furrowed further and further.

Actually, the news from the Zhen Yan Sect wasn’t all that outstanding. What Elder Fa mentioned from her own side was merely the secret chamber they had found. But hearing about this now made him remember the news about that array and the mural the Teng Yong Sect had informed them about a while ago and he really didn’t like the implications of that. If possible, he would have hoped for different news if there had to be any at all.
