Liang Yuanwai also had to briefly inform Miao He and Yang Dalang about the odorous events that occurred in the mansion.

“It’s also caused by my inability to manage the family,” he said, shaking his head. “My tiger head hasn’t had the blessing to receive Brother Yang’s ger’s good intention, so I decline to miss it like this. Yang family’s ger, anyhow, I would still bother you to supply vegetables to Liang Mansion in the future. Our price is comparable to that of the teahouse!”

This also served as a reminder to Shopkeeper Jin not to lower the price if he so desired. If he persisted in his efforts to lower the price, would the Liang family sit by idly and follow suit? Certainly not!

Shopkeeper Jin was oblivious to his companions’ words, thus he felt no pressure. His intentions had conquered his mind currently, and he was determined to bring the vegetables back no matter what! Despite not seeing the vegetable plot, he felt confident. Look at the delicious dishes they could prepare at the house, and you would never have to worry about crop quality issues!

Jin, the shopkeeper, also expressed his thoughts aloud. “Like today’s cabbage and tomatoes, they are all delicious! We, the teahouse, will charge as much as there are! Orders will also be unlimited! What do you think now that I’ve laid out my intentions, Brother Yang and Brother Yang’s ger?”

Because it was grown in living soil, today’s cabbage was especially delicious. “The vegetables you ate today were innately tastier because they had been frozen,” Miao He said after a brief pause.” And the frozen goods are no longer available. I should point out that if they are freshly harvested, the flavor will be slightly different. Will that be acceptable?”

‘To say means he has the will!” Shopkeeper Jin immediately recognized the point and nodded with joy. “This little ger is truly a sincere person! I, the shopkeeper, naturally know this! Not to mention that the bok choy and the tiny rapeseeds this little ger delivered last time were all exceptional. I don’t kid!”

Miao He’s heart warmed up, and he finally let go of his worries. He could not help but look at Yang Dalang with a proud and elated expression on his face. Even though Dalang was silent, the softness in his eyes conveyed his encouragement and support.

After a while, everyone went to the backyard vegetable field. The second batch of replanted vegetables was about to be harvested. Indeed, admiring the lush greenery was a pleasurable experience. The nearest vegetables to them were planted for commercial, and Miao He purposefully planted them in batches so that the vegetables could be harvested within reasonable time intervals. He also intended to set a fixed schedule for harvesting, hence. Despite the good intentions, the small size of the field disappointed Shopkeeper Jin.

“Brother Yang’s ger is an expert in growing vegetables. Mind if I ask why the area was modest? ”

Miao He gave a small smile. “There was no land at home previously. If you want to start a large vegetable plot, you must first purchase land from the village chief.”

Liang Yuanwai exclaimed, puffing out his chest, “Fortunately, the land appointed to Brother Yang earlier also has an area of an uncultivated plot at the foot of the mountain. If Brother Yang’s ger wants to expand, I believe it would be a good fit.” If they planted more, their family might share more.

On his way here, Shopkeeper Jin learned about the Liang and Yang families’ relationship and went along for a laugh. “Well, if there are more vegetables, this little ger won’t have to worry about selling them. Our teahouse can certainly afford to buy it all!”

Miao He’s eyes glowed. “Then I shall wait for Dalang to recover, and we will have more varieties.”

Shopkeeper Jin and Miao He signed a contract before returning that day.

Shopkeeper Jin took the business seriously and earnestly, as expected. Going as far as to deposit five taels before the official supply of vegetables. Five taels equated to the cost of ten boxes of vegetables. A box of vegetables cost slightly more than what Wu Mian offered then. However, given the slightly larger portion size, half a tael of silver was already a very good price for each box.

Yangshui Teahouse, regardless, still had to guarantee quality. Every time the vegetables were delivered, they had to be inspected, and money would be deducted for any vegetables that were returned. Business was business, and those rules were spelled out in the contract. Miao He saw no problem with this. After both parties signed the deed, an extra copy was given to the town clerk to keep the transaction’s document uncontested and acquiesced.

There was no need for Miao He to run to town for this matter. Listening on the side, Liang Yuanwai patted his chest quickly and promised to deliver it for Miao He. So, when they left, not only did Shopkeeper Jin return with a small box, but so did Liang Yuanwai! As they walked back, the two were all smiles, and Miao He was as well.

The vegetables he grew have finally been sold!!

He swiveled toward Yang Dalang and looked at him with overjoyed eyes. “Let me just take it in that somebody wants the vegetables! Also, it is a teahouse! You won’t have to worry about money in the future if you make more money in this business!”

“The credit’s yours.” Yang Dalang gave a nod.

These words came across as a little self-deprecating. Miao He cleared his throat. “It’s yours too. You loosened the soil and dug the fertilizer pit. If you want to start a new vegetable plot, you must still make these.”

Yang Dalang gently drew the person in for a hug. “En. Will do it all.” With such a good ger, how long would God let him have him?

Miao He stiffened in response to the unexpected embrace. He let the other hug him without hesitation, despite the flushing of his cheeks. He thought of being mentally prepared; was this also considered preparation?

Yet, his efforts were all for naught. A kiss that turned Miao He’s neck bright red was pressed over him a moment later.

Miao He thought in a daze as his head tipped back and his hands tugged at the other’s clothes. ‘Why? Why is this happening again?’

The trip to Miao He’s family went by smoothly. Shopkeeper Jin hurried back to the teahouse to report. He also presented the treasure he brought back to Elder Qu, which was the box of tomatoes. As for Liang Yuanwai, he had more matters to run. Besides delivering the deeds for Miao He’s sake, there were also two worms in the family to deal with.

“Xu Biao, Laoye is looking for you!”

Xu Biao, the second chef of the Liang family, pulled up the towel tied around his waist to wipe his hands while responding and hurried out. During the walk, he presumed whether the family was satisfied with his uncle’s vegetables that they wanted to increase the price.

He entered the hall in this mood, and when he spotted Wu Mian standing inside, his heart skipped a beat. He rushed in, bowed, and asked, “Laoye, you called me?”

Liang Yuanwai opened his eyes. The public knew him with the reputation of a good and benevolent person, but that did not mean there were no rewards and punishment under his jurisdiction. Otherwise, how could he suppress the men living on the river wanting to trespass?

Just remembering the scene where his wife and son eat the tomatoes from Miao He’s house to their hearts’ content with relish, that each was rinsed thoroughly before serving, Liang Yuanwai felt as if his heart was the one that’s been squeezed and rinsed! How could most of the good crops be taken away by the shopkeeper? Of course, there was still time to turn his face with hostility and refuse the accounts to only allow Brother He to serve the vegetables for himself. But, if it were not for the shopkeeper, he might not even have the chance to eat the vegetables. Plus, he was not the type of person who would destroy the bridge after crossing the river.

Just to let his Madam know the entire picture, Liang Yuanwai, who was a member of the Hidden Fear of Wives Club, trembled, and performed the most severe bearing to act lawlessly for the unscrupulous!

“From today on, you and Wu Mian will no longer serve in this family. After you settle the money with the steward, go at once.”

As soon as those words were said, Xu Bai and Wu Mian were stunned shitless!

The two men’s knees banged on the ground. “Laoye! For what reason?!”

“Laoye! I have displayed utter loyalty to the Liang Mansion; where did I do wrong?!”

Liang Yuanwai said coldly, “One stole the vegetables, and the other sold them. My Liang Mansion does not accept light-fingered people. On top of that, the Feng family: Xu Biao. You tell them I won’t be needing their services anymore. Alright, dismissed.”

When the last sentence faded into the hall, the tall guards on both sides of the hall marched forward to drag the two out. For Liang Yuanwai, this matter could be solved in just a few words. But for Xu Biao and Wu Mian, it was a bolt from the blue! Both were still in a daze of what had just transpired, thus transporting them outside the residence became an effortless task.

Once the gates closed shut, Xu Biao finally roused from his stupor. He snapped his head to one side and clutched the arm of Wu Mian. “Didn’t you say you’d handle those vegetables well?! What’s going on?! How did someone find out?!”

Wu Mian might have possessed a cunning temperament, but he was frightened of evil people. Seeing Xu Biao resembling a demon who was about to devour him alive, he winded up his courage even when fear crept over him. “I-I don’t know. I just sold it in the teahouse. How can that be related to me?”

“Teahouse?!” Xu Biao glared daggers from his eyes. He thought of the neat and beautiful vegetables. He screeched, “You idiot!! If you sell it to a teahouse, won’t people track it down?!”

The flesh on his arm started to burn from the chef’s grip, so Wu Mian took the chance to break free the moment it loosened a little. “I sold it to a teahouse to get a good price. How would I know those people could find it? Did you put the vegetables in a box? Ain’t it not because you left something to track, no? So, was it still my fault?!”

“Box?!” His eyes stared at Wu Mian unblinkingly. Soon after, his face contorted. Xu Biao finally knew where he went wrong!!

That box of vegetables was strange from the very beginning!! He has this sense that he had seen it somewhere before, and—ain’t that the box used by the Liang family for gifts!!

He failed to even think of this, so he stupidly carried the vegetables out!

Wu Mian expressed, “Also, I did as you ordered. Speaking of which, I am implicated because of you, and I was oblivious to the fact that you stole this dish!! Had I had known of this, then I wouldn’t have thought of helping you! Now that I have no job, how can I face my woman and baby at home? It’s just right to give me something for this treatment, no?”

“You obviously took all the money for selling vegetables!!”

“How can such little money be enough? No. If you don’t deny it, then I will make a noise in front of your house every day!”

“What’s with the noise! Didn’t I get you this job? Now it’s gone, then what more can I say!! Want to make trouble? Come on, who am I afraid of now?! I still have the Feng family, so you should get lost!!”

“That’s not what you said. Didn’t your mother-in-law take my favor back then?!? Spit it out together!!”

The two argued in front of Liang’s Mansion, and within a short while, guards shooed them further away.

The two individuals still cursed at each other until their throats started rasping, and perhaps this was the only thing they could do right now.

***

More than a month later, Miao He had delivered vegetables four times.

Every time he sent a box to town, he had not lost sight to take some well-prepared dangshen, together with platycodon and yellow celery which were grown in their yard, to exchange them for some money with the shopkeeper of the pharmacy. He ruled to not bring out too much, just one kind of plant or two at a time. Nonetheless, as time went on, the portion in each bag would also accumulate, gradually profiting them with two or more hustles in the future! Of course, it won’t be without some advantages.

During this month, Old Doctor Ji came over for follow-up visits. He finally released Yang Dalang from his prohibition, and the cloth strips affixed on his chest could finally be removed. Old Doctor Ji also concluded that he was in a good recovery condition and he could now do light work.

Around this time, the weather was getting hotter, and the vegetables had turned mature. Turnips and lettuces also joined in the harvesting period one after another, along with the seasonal bok choy and tiny rapeseeds. Tomatoes, on the other hand, were produced frequently. Seeing the constant enormous demands for tomatoes by the teahouse, Miao He used the living soil to ripen the several plants at once and joined the ranks of fruit-producing in turns. And certainly, the Liang residence waned neither.

Even Dabai broke free from the size of a small kitten and was now two palms big. Since it grew up consuming the young leaves and various fruits planted in the living soil, Dabai had become more of a tiger-headed. When something caught its interest, it would become very naughty as far as to scratch it. Fortunately, it only favored the crops produced by the living soil and kept away from harming Miao He’s vegetable fields. Otherwise, the kitten used to catch mice would become a hazard to the yard.

As for the relationship between Miao He and Yang Dalang, Miao He could not articulate what phase they were in. But as Yang Dalang touched him more and more frequently, Miao He always perceived there was a volcano pressing on his head. The moment it would erupt, he had no clue. And he was a little scared too.

This morning, Miao He was rubbing his hand along the field where the living soil was concentrated. Every day, he stepped into the backyard to pick and plant a slice of dangshen to make tea for Yang Dalang.

But today was different!

The moment he dug out a dangshen, a bright ray of light suddenly flashed in front of him!!

Miao He was stunned for a moment. When he recovered, he found that living soil which he had embedded in the field previously, returned to his hand!!

Then he checked out and found that the original lump of living soil became two?! The size was also the same as the original one?!

‘This—is this the escalation of the living soil?!’

Miao He felt indefinitely bewildered. He promptly put aside the lumps and tested them with the plants at hand!

Sure enough, both worked superbly!! Now, he owned two lumps of living soil!!

Without even thinking about it, Miao He excitedly went to find Yang Dalang. The man was in front of the yard, sorting out the hunting gear which was left unused for a long time.

Miao He animatedly waved his hands as he talked in vigor. When he could finally get a whiff of air, he saw that Yang Dalang was not in the least bit happy at all. The latter’s expression was somber and there seemed to be a trace of restraint in it, too. In the end, he stood up and picked up Miao He and strode into the house.

Miao He was full of question marks on his head. “What’s wrong? Also, don’t carry me. I’m heavy; put me down!”

Yang Dalang entered the bedroom without slowing down and put the person to bed. Then directly pressed him down.

Miao He did not even get the chance to utter a word.

With fervent eagerness and anxiousness, Yang Dalang scarfed his mouth deeply, searing his mind to a paste.

‘Can’t hold on any longer.’

His ger was his.
