“Yey, another room conquered,” Flavia announced, raising her hand up in the air.

The group has just beaten all the monsters in yet another the cave room they have found.

“Phew, I was scared for a moment there,” Lilna was glad the fight was finally over.

“Yeah, the Fanged Wolves seemed to be much more aggressive for some reason,” Emilia commented thoughtfully.

That was true for the most part. Not everyone in the group was paying it too much attention, due to focusing on the fight itself. Except for one other person maybe.

“Is everything alright, partner?” Flavia noticed her boyfriend was lost in thoughts.

“Oh, it’s nothing. Well, maybe…” he tried to dismiss it, but then thought maybe it wasn’t a coincidence.

“You worry?” Growly, as short with words as he was, could see his teammate was worried about something.

“Yeah, if you have something on your mind you need to tell us, partner,” the bunny girl insisted. The other group members were curious to hear what Narias had to say as well.

“Well, I think we’re getting close to the boss monster’s lair,” Narias stated point blank.

“What? Really?!” Flavia looked more excited than she was worried.

“How do you know that, if I may ask, Narias?” Emilia asked politely.

“Maybe I’m wrong, but…” the party’s leader didn’t want to worry his teammates for nothing.

“Just say it, partner. We’re here to beat the first floor’s boss monster, aren’t we?” the golden-haired girl with the bunny ears suddenly leaned forward in front of him.

F… Flavia! You’re too close. Narias almost jumped. But it also helped him clear his head as a result too.

“Sigh… sorry. I have two concerns regarding our exploration at this point, but I didn’t want to worry you for no reason. I’ll tell you what they are, but let me explain everything from the beginning first.” Narias relaxed and straightened up. “For one, we’ve been here in this dungeon for a long time now. I don’t know how long, though. It is really difficult to track the time in here.”

“Now that you’ve mentioned it, I wouldn’t know how long we’ve been here as well,” Flavia put a finger to her lips.

“Yeah, it is really hard to know for sure,” Emilia agreed.

“From my calculations, which are probably not very accurate, we’ve been inside the Magic Dungeon for about eighteen hours now. It could be longer, since I can’t say for sure how much time we’ve spent resting at the last Supply Point room,” Narias told them, but he wasn’t convinced he was right.

“Woah!” the energetic bunny girl gasped.

“Eighteen hours?” Lilna was shocked to learn that.

“Long time,” commented Growly who, in all honesty, wasn’t worried about it too much.

“But what does it have to do with us getting closer to where the boss monster is?” Emilia wanted to know.

“About that. You’ve said it yourself Emilia, the monsters were becoming fiercer with each new encounter. And we haven’t encountered a single level one monster for a while. We’ve been fighting only level two monsters now,” Narias explained.

“Yes… it is as you say,” the girl with the snow-white hair agreed after giving it a short thought.

“Since the boss monster is the strongest monster on the current floor, it makes sense that getting to it would be much more difficult. Which means, the closer we get to its lair the fiercer the monsters become. Or so I believe it would be,” the group’s leader explained his point of view.

“Good point,” Growly acknowledged it.

“Wow, I would’ve never thought about that,” Lilna commented in surprise.

“So, you’re saying we should find the Whitemane Fanged Wolf soon enough, right partner?” Flavia asked him, clearly hoping for a ‘yes’ answer.

“That’s the thing, I don’t know,” the team leader rubbed the back of his head with one hand. “In essence, this is my first time coming this far inside the Magic Dungeon. My guess is as good as anyone else’s.”

“But your explanation makes sense. After thinking it through, the monsters we fought recently were much more organized than the ones we have fought at the beginning. It could be that we’re getting closer to the current floor’s boss monster,” Emilia shared her thoughts after thinking about it.

“That’s great then. Let’s find it and beat it. After that, we can go to the second floor of the Magic Dungeon,” Flavia announced excitedly.

“That’s the thing. I don’t think we’ll be able to do that,” Narias surprised everyone with his statement.

“What? Are you saying we won’t be able to beat this floor’s boss monster? You should know we are strong enough to do so,” his bunny girlfriend frowned in a cute manner.

“No, no. That’s not what I meant,” he motioned with his hands for extra emphasis.

“What did you mean then, Narias?” Emilia asked him.

“What I meant was that I don’t think we’ll be able to even find the boss monster on the second floor, even if we go there,” Narias explained calmly.

“Why?” Flavia stretched forward while ramming her clenched fists against her waist.

“Because we’ll run out of food and water before we do,” his answer stung everyone harder than a bee’s sting.

“Food is important,” Growly rubbed his cheek with one finger.

“But we still have… enough food,” Flavia wanted to believe that, but the expression on her face changed after she picked up her backpack from the ground. She could clearly tell it was much lighter than it used to be.

An awkward silence befell the room. Even if somebody wanted to argue, the students knew their supplies won’t last another eighteen hours. They’d have to go back sooner rather than later if they didn’t want to starve to death.

“But we agreed we’ll beat the boss monster on the second floor. Or else the school will shut down the Magic Dungeon exploration,” Flavia waved her hands, being emotional about it.

“Well…” Narias didn’t know what to say about it.

“They definitely won’t,” suddenly, Belinda Salroze stepped in.

“Miss Salroze,” Emilia, as well as everyone else, turned to face her.

“Humph, I can’t believe it. You really are something else. I had never gone into the Magic Dungeon with the student group such as yours. Not with a first-year student group at least,” the violet-haired female teacher shook her head.

“What do you mean, Miss Salroze?” Narias asked.

“Tsk…” you could tell Belinda was feeling somehow uncomfortable about what she was about to say. “You are the most capable Magic Dungeon exploration group I had ever gone with as a guide. Humph… I can’t even call myself a ‘guide’, really. You never needed my assistance even once for the whole time we’ve been here.”

“Really?” her praise made Flavia grin her widest smile yet.

“Wow, thank you, Miss Salroze,” Lilna said after clapping her hands from the unexpected compliment.

“Cool,” Growly commented, showing off his sharp teeth feeling good about it too.

“Thank you for such kind words, Miss Salroze.” Narias was happy to hear such praise himself. “But… we’ve been doing what any other group coming to the Magic Dungeon would do. Weren’t we?”

“As if,” the group’s guide commented without any hesitation. “You’d be surprised to learn how many students don’t bother bringing enough food and water with them. And I’m not even talking about leaving any supplies at the Supply Point rooms. You on the other hand, left something at both Supply Point rooms we’ve visited. Not only that. You organized your party without my help and decided on specific way how to explore the dungeon. Add to that your teamwork and fighting skills… Tch… You even managed to track and kill the Crystal Snatcher bug. I could go on, but the things you’ve accomplished so far are more than enough to convince the authorities to keep the Magic Dungeon exploration going. Heh, Jean will be thrilled to hear- Ahem… I mean, you’ve done really well.”

The teacher was to comment on something exciting at the end, but then stopped at the last second. She even had a light blush on her cheeks for some reason.

“Yey!” Flavia cheered excitedly after hearing the teacher dump all kinds of compliments.

“Wow, does that mean we’ll get a passing grade too?” Lilna was happy too, more so about getting a passing grade.

“Of course,” the teacher added. “As far as I’m concerned, all of you have already passed the Magic Dungeon exploration test with flying colors. Hmph, you wouldn’t need to take the written exam even.”

Everyone was ecstatic to hear it. The students couldn’t contain their excitement.

“Yey!” the students cheered, with Flavia being the loudest of all.

“Having said that, we’re still inside the Magic Dungeon. Until we’re out of it, congratulations will have to wait,” Belinda Salroze reminded them.

“Right, sorry about that, Miss Salroze,” Narias apologized for the whole group.

“So, what do we do now?” Emilia asked after the students calmed down a little.

“We go beat the boss monster of this floor of course,” Flavia stated excitedly.

“Beat boss monster. Sounds cool,” Growly was up for it too.

“But… Miss Salroze said we have already passed the Magic Dungeon exploration test,” Lilna wasn’t as eager to go after the boss monster as Flavia and Growly were.

“I don’t mind keep going, but if we stay too long then…” Emilia wasn’t against going after the boss monster, but had her own reasons to not stay inside the dungeon for too long.

As for Narias, he obviously wanted to keep going. Unfortunately, some of the group members wanted to go back. He had to find a compromise. If they were to vote, it might end up being fifty-fifty between who would want to keep going and who would like to turn back. So, Narias’ voice would be the deciding factor. However, if he was to take the crude voting way, somebody would be left unhappy. Narias would rather avoid that.

“I’d rather we stay and try to find the Whitemane Fanged Wolf’s lair, but at the same time, we need to make sure we won’t run out of supplies. We’ll have to go back at some point one way or the other. So, how about we check how much food and water we still have left and then decide the best course of action?” Instead of headbutting with his teammates, Narias took the logical approach.

“That’s a good point, partner,” it was well received by Flavia right away.

“Ok. I mean, we’ve been doing very well so far. We probably… could keep going if we still can,” Lilna seemed to agree with the plan as well.

And so, the party sat down to check how much supplies everyone had. After the students took out the supplies to see how much food they have left, Narias realized there was one person missing.

“That’s right. I need to ask Miss Salroze how much food she has left too. We need to make sure everyone has enough,” he told everyone and then stood up to go ask the teacher about it.

“Ok,” the others agreed.

“Excuse me, Miss Salroze,” Narias approached the group’s guide.

“Yes, what is it? Are you ready to move on?” she asked.

“No, not yet. We decided to check how much food and water we have left. We want to know how long it will last us. I came to check if you have enough as well,” he explained the group’s intentions to the teacher.

“I… I still have enough. Don’t worry about me,” Belinda said, yet was feeling somehow uncomfortable for some reason.

“Really? I didn’t see you eat anything the last time we took a break. Are you saving your food for later?” Narias was curious.

“And why would you check whether I was eating or not?” Belinda gave him a short glance, but then quickly averted her eyes away.

“Sorry, I…” that made Narias feel embarrassed about it. “I simply want to make sure you have enough food and water for yourself, Miss Salroze.”

“Tsk…” the violet-haired, athletic female teacher somewhat frowned. But then sighed deeply. “I… I don’t have any food left with me.”

“What? Really?” that wasn’t something Narias expected to hear. “But then why didn’t you tell us, Miss Salroze? We would’ve shared with you.”

“…” Belinda wanted to say something, but instead pressed her lips tight against each other feeling embarrassed about it.

“Huh?” at that exact moment, Narias thought the female teacher looked exceptionally alluring.

“I’m sorry, I…” luckily, the same, exceptionally alluring female teacher hadn’t noticed Narias staring at her yet. “Sigh… I honestly didn’t expect your group to stay in the dungeon for so long. I had enough food to last me half a day, but then your party decided to have some rest so you could keep going. I never expected you to be that well prepared. Better yet, how did you manage to calculate how long we’ve been inside the Magic Dungeon?”

“Oh, I don’t know for sure. I mean, it was more of a logical deduction than anything else. I took into account the number of breaks we took to eat. By the time we got to the second Supply Point, I was almost convinced it had to be at least ten to twelve hours since we have entered the Magic Dungeon. I’m probably wrong, though. Everyone was really tired, which is understandable since we’ve been fighting monsters all the time. Also, I can’t say for sure how many hours we have slept. Five, six… maybe longer. So, on that premise I… Ah? Oh, sorry,” Narias suddenly realized he was on a talking rollercoaster again. He raised his eyes to look at the teacher and saw her staring at him intently.

“Huh?” it almost looked like Belinda Salroze snapped out of some secret fantasy. Her cheeks flushed suddenly and she quickly turned her face away. “That is… quite a deduction.”

Belinda crossed her arms in front of her, turning to the side at the same time.

“I’m sorry. My mom always says I talk too much. Ha… haha,” Narias tried to laugh his own embarrassment off. “Anyway, aahm… How about you join us to have something to eat, Miss Salroze? And… and after that we will decide how long we can still stay here.”

Wow, this is awkward. Narias could understand why the teacher might feel uncomfortable, but he couldn’t understand why he was feeling embarrassed about it himself.

“Th… thank you. I… I’ll come over in a minute. I just… I just need to make sure it is safe to do so,” Belinda Salroze told him without turning around.

“Oh, yeah, of course. I’ll check the opposite side of the cave room for any monsters as well,” it was a good reminder to do so.

Tch… I should’ve been better prepared. A fifteen-year-old student taking care of his teacher. Sigh… Can’t get more embarrassing than that. Belinda thought to herself after Narias was gone. A fifteen-year-old, huh? Have I ever met a fifteen-year-old as mature as him, I wonder? And why would I… Whatever, let’s just swallow my pride and have something to eat. I’ll have to make up to him for it later… somehow.
