Chapter 307 High Pain's Might

As the fog grew heavy in Haventown, Ambrose flew past the pitched-roofed buildings and drew both of his swords.

'That guy was immensely powerful.' Ambrose gulped dryly. 'Also, he seemed to be associated with the fucking Wild Hunt, the legendary beings that are still spoken of daily among players.'

At that moment, he heard the neighing of ghost horses, and when he turned around, he saw several ghost, skeleton horses galloping through the fog. They were flying as well, and the Ghosts of the Wild Hunt were mounted on top of them, swords in their hands.

The Ghosts of the Wild Hunt were riding towards him, their eyes glowing with an otherworldly light.

'From what I know, they aren't actually super strong beings, but their durability makes it more than enough.' Ambrose stopped flying away and turned to face the ghosts.

'They have three million health, and there are about a dozen of them. It would take me about a week to kill all of them, probably!

'I do have Immortality, so if things get bad, I can always escape, but after the fight with Dreadnought, when the Immortality finally wore off, the cooldown was 24 hours.

'It makes a lot of sense to have a big cooldown. Now that I have Formlessness, when Immortality gets activated, I can always run away.

'However, I don't think that is an option against these things.'

A skeleton, glowing in green, swung its sword towards the dual-wielding young man. Ambrose dodged the attack with ease, his movements fluid and quick as he used Formlessness.

It was as fluid as fish in the sea and as graceful as a bird in flight.

"Slash of the Six Worlds!" Ambrose screamed, and as his swords started glowing in golden light, he swung his swords in front of him, sending beams of golden light towards the skeletons.

The golden beams landed with a thunderous force at them, but they only staggered slightly in the air before shaking it off and continuing their chase.

'They tanked it like it was nothing.' Ambrose's lip twitched after seeing his most powerful attack do barely any damage.

The skeleton horses galloped forth, and the skeletons swung their longswords with deadly precision.

Ambrose weaved through the attacks with Formlessness and smashed his Black Swords at the skeleton horses, wanting to get rid of the Wild Hunt's ability to fly.

However, he expected them to do no damage at all since they seemed to be as durable as the Wild Hunt themselves.

However, a shocking thing happened.

His swords shredded through the horses as if they were made of paper.

Several horses fell from the sky as if they were birds who lost their wings, bringing the skeletons with them all the way to the ground.

'Maybe they weren't as durable as I thought.' Ambrose shrugged his shoulders and turned to look at the rest of the skeletons.

However, for some reason, their hollow eyesockets with a strange greenish glowing core inside, as if those were their eyes, were fixated on his swords.

They seemed to be staring at the swords with an unnerving intensity.

'Wait...' Ambrose remembered the sword's description.

'It can cut through anything, so that means I can also cut through them... However, why didn't my attack infused with Inner Power work?

'Because I was only using my swords to throw the Inner Power-coated attacks at them and not use my swords as a direct weapon.'

Ambrose smirked, and his dull blue eyes showed a bright spark of excitement.

"Well, this makes things easier."

Without further ado, he flew forward and smashed his swords at the chest of one of the skeletons. The blades sliced through the undead creature's bones with ease.

As the skeleton began to fall from the top of the skeleton horse, its glowing eyes lost their shimmer.

The ghosts looked taken aback, as this was something out of their understanding. Since their creation, they have never lost one of their kind before.

However, they didn't feel fear or any emotions. They only had the target of their hunt in their minds, nothing else.

They didn't feel alliance or loyalty towards anyone, not even towards the Death King.

That's why they were one of the most dangerous beings found in the Dark Waters.

As the skeleton horses started to gallop forward, the Ghosts of the Wild Hunt raised their swords and attacked Ambrose while the weather turned cold, as if winter had suddenly fallen on Haventown.

Even the water in the ocean surrounding the island started to freeze over.

'Something about them changed.' Ambrose concluded and quickly blocked one of the swords, but then his flesh started to freeze over, and he could feel his heartbeat slow down.

"What?!" Ambrose's eyes widened in shock, and he quickly backed off, but when he looked at his arms and swords, they were covered in a thin layer of ice.

"Argh..." He quickly flexed his muscles, and as his muscles grew in size, the ice shattered.

He then smashed the Black Swords against each other and made the ice break.

The townsfolk, who were hiding inside their homes, felt their bodies turn unusually cold, and before they could even speak a word, they suddenly turned into ice sculptures.

The ice spread across Haventown like an unstoppable plague, killing everyone who was unfortunate enough to not have a fireplace in their homes.

A few rare ones were already near the fireplaces, enjoying the company of their loved ones, until they saw the walls of their houses turn slightly into ice.

Without further ado, they threw everything made of paper and wood in their homes to the fireplace, hoping that it was enough to keep them alive, and it somewhat worked, but they were still shuddering in the cold.

Ambrose floated above Haventown and felt his hair stand on end as he watched the chaos below. The frost and darkness spread across the town, threatening to engulf everything in its path.

"The harbingers of destruction..." Ambrose whispered and turned to the skeletons, his eyes calm without any fear.

He let out a calm breath and stepped forth with his swords on his side.

As the skeleton horses neighed with an eerie sound, they galloped forward and breathed out a greenish smoke that was both poisonous and immensely cold.

Ambrose's muscles swelled as if they were about to explode, and then he swung his swords through the poisonous smoke and made it all vanish in a flash.

"Do you feel pain, I wonder?" Ambrose flashed a small grin, and he then appeared in an instant above one of the skeletons.

He raised his swords and brought them down with relentless force, striking the skeleton with a deadly blow.

"High Pain!"

Ambrose's scream reverberated across the town like an echoing voice inside a tunnel.

The skeleton's head shattered into a million pieces, its body crumbling to dust. However, the greenish core inside its sockets turned red for a moment, as if it were under immense pain.

But then the core shattered as well, and another Ghost of the Wild Hunt met its demise under Ambrose's sword.

Ambrose floated silently in the air, facing the might of a dozen Ghosts of the Wild Hunt.

They were silently staring at him, their thoughts unknown and unclear.

As several townsfolk who survived through the freezing cold saw a lonely young man facing a dozen otherworldly creatures who looked like they had crawled straight from hell, they thought he was a god fighting a bunch of demons.

It didn't seem to be a far possibility, as in this moment, Ambrose, who was floating in the air, truly looked like a god.
