Chapter 49: Taking You to See the World

_

Five luxury cars were parked across the street outside Cook County Jail in Chicago. In one of them, Dix leisurely sat smoking, waiting for the prison gate to open.

Today was a special day for him.

There were two reasons for this. One was the day his good friend, Goss Miner, was released from prison.

Goss Miner, who was once a member of Dix’s small gang, was also one of the main culprits in the jewelry theft case.

After that case, under the arrangement of Josh and the coordination of Sheriff Detrick, Goss voluntarily took full responsibility for Tony Wendys’ fatal beating, which resulted in him being sentenced to five years for manslaughter, unlike Dix and Landon Schneider, who was released without charge or bail.

But Dix never forgot his good brother.

So with the attack of money, various sentence reductions, and bail, Goss only took half a year to be released from prison.

With the creaking of the prison metal gate, a slightly hunched figure walked out under the escort of a guard.

Don’t misunderstand; the reason for his hunchback is not because Goss was abused inside but because he was already slightly hunched.

In fact, during the past six months, he lived in a single room in prison, ate from his own kitchen, and did not have to do hard labor like other prisoners. Even Dix occasionally sent a few girls in, and his days were very comfortable.

This is the land of capitalism; as long as you have money and connections, your life can be extremely comfortable, even in prison.

Only those without money or power will have to suffer and do hard labor.

Seeing Josh’s figure, Dix immediately stubbed out his cigarette, got out of the car, and went to greet him.

On the other side, Goss, seeing the imposing Dix, felt no jealousy but instead was very happy.

Since he had been in prison before, he knew very well that without Dix, he would never have been able to live so comfortably in prison, let alone be released so early.

Moreover, when he was released from prison, Dix came to greet him grandly, making him feel proud of the crime he had been accused of.

“Hahaha, welcome back, buddy!” Dix gave Goss a big bear hug.

Just a little hunched and less than 1.7 meters tall, Goss looked quite comical next to Dix, who was nearly two meters tall.

“Why did you make such a big fuss? Did you spend a lot of money? I thought some big boss from the mafia was released.” Josh joked. He had only known that Dix had followed a very rich boss while he was in prison and did not know anything else, so he thought Dix had spent money on this reception just to welcome him.

“Hahaha, what big boss? Of course, it’s you! Come on, let me introduce myself, Dix Handley, the boss of the Irish Blackwater Gang!” Dix slapped his chest, quite proud of himself.

“Hey buddy, I don’t think you’ve been drinking, have you?” When Goss heard this, he was stunned. He thought Dix was drunk and talking nonsense, so he leaned in to smell him, but there was no smell of alcohol.

“Get out of here! I’m telling the truth. Okay, let’s not waste any more time. Today is your big day, and I’m taking you to see the big show.” Seeing Goss’s unbelieving look, Dix rolled his eyes, put his arm around his shoulder, and pulled him into the car.

But as soon as Goss got in the car, he felt something was wrong.

Dix’s car was a Cadillac Fleetwood Series 75 luxury limousine, unlike the other four cars worth over a thousand dollars each.

During the same period, President Roosevelt, the headmaster across the ocean, and many heads of state also owned this type of vehicle.

Of course, this luxury car was also very popular among various business and political figures as well as mafia bosses in the United States.

In the movie “The Godfather,” Don’s car is also this type.

The length of the entire car exceeded 5 meters, so the interior space was extremely spacious.

But these details were not the focus for Goss. The real focus was the small seat added to the right rear door position of the car and something covered in oilcloth on the chassis in front of the rear seat.

“‘Dix, what are you planning to do with this?’ Looking at the object, Goss swallowed his saliva. Although it was covered in an oilcloth, its silhouette was not difficult for Goss to recognize what kind of deadly weapon it was.

“Hehe, I told you, taking you to see the world!” Dix’s face showed a smirk.

Immediately, at Dix’s command, the convoy set off.

Goss sat obediently in his seat, staring at the big weapon covered with oilcloth in front of him, not daring to move.

At this point, he had already realized that in just the past half year, his former buddy beside him was no longer the small-time thug who robbed on the street and seemed to have become a real underworld giant.

The convoy drove for an unknown amount of time and finally stopped in a small alley.

Rolling down the window, a little brother who had been waiting here for a long time quickly approached.

“How’s the situation?” Dix asked the little brother.

“They just went in fifteen minutes ago,” the little brother answered.

Upon hearing this, Dix checked his watch and said, “Keep a close eye on them.”

The little brother nodded and ran out of the alley.

Dix leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes to rest.

Goss looked at his old partner beside him and dared not say or ask anything. But he had already guessed what Dix was going to do.

Compared to Dix, who came to Chicago halfway, Goss grew up in Chicago and was very familiar with this area.

This was the territory of one of the largest gangs in Chicago, the Jewish Mafia.

About half an hour later, the little brother hurriedly ran into the alley.

“Boss, they’re coming out soon!” the little brother shouted to Dix, panting.

“Let’s go, let’s go! Hurry up!” Dix immediately opened his eyes and shouted to the front and back.

The convoy immediately started and drove out of the alley, stopping at two intersections outside soon after.

Across the street was a high-end hotel.

At this time, a group of well-dressed people were leaving the hotel.

These were the heads of the Jewish mafia who had come here for a meeting today.

As a long-term underworld gang living on the edge of bloodshed, these Jewish Mafia leaders immediately felt something was wrong when they saw the convoy suddenly stop across the street and instinctively wanted to draw their guns and retreat.

But it was too late.

The windows of the four cars were rolled down, and several Thompson submachine guns were pointed out, spitting out flames.

In the Cadillac in the middle, Goss, who was terrified, opened the car door at Dix’s signal.

At the same time, Dix sat on the small chair on the side of the car and lifted the oilcloth, revealing the hidden weapon underneath, an M1895 Colt–Browning machine gun!

The next second, the machine gun’s roaring sound echoed in the street, and Goss instinctively covered his ears. The flying bullet shells occasionally fell on him, scorching him through his clothes and making him shiver.
