She has finally asked him about her. She already knows what he is going to say, but she wants him to confirm it.

“I told you when I was still in the US, I’ve already proposed to Mankuai.” Han Qilu continues, “Although we’re not old enough to marry, we’ll be engaged for the time being.”

Jiang Yuan’s head snaps like it got struck with a lightning bolt when she heard him say “engaged”. Then, she remembers she has her tablet in her hand. A sudden burst of energy strikes her. “Qilu, you’ve not been online since you’ve returned.”

Han Qilu becomes suspicious the moment he sees his mother smile. Squinting, he asks, “What do you mean?”

“Go online and search for the future Mrs. Han.” She tosses him her tablet. only for him to fumble as he tries to get the device in his hand.

You’ve lost, woman! I’m not going to drop the tablet!

Han Qilu types the words on the search engine. He is surprised to see what was queued. The pages are all referring to An Chuxia, even those that casually have him hanging out with her.

He was about to ask Jiang Yuan about the search when a news headline catches his attention.

“Snake Forest Adventure Brings Death to Han Successor.”

“Han Heir Saved by Fiancee, Both Were Dying”

The second headline has a picture attached to the article. In the photo, he was blood soaked. A crying An Chuxia was holding him. She didn’t look good herself. Her clothes were torn and bloodied. Her hands and feet were scratched.

Somehow, looking at the picture makes his eyes feel hot. A crystal teardrop falls on the screen and slides off from the edge.

Jiang Yuan sees him shed the tear. She thinks his memory has returned upon seeing the article. She rushes next to him joyfully. “What are you thinking? Do you remember?”

Han Qilu is confused at his mother’s delight. He reaches out to wipe the tear from his eye. He wonders out loud, “Why am I crying?”

Upon seeing his reaction, she knows he hasn’t recovered his memories.

Jiang Yuan curses under her breath, “Damn, I thought this stupid boy finally got his memory back!”

“In time.” Han Qilu returns the tablet to Jiang Yuan. “Mankuai is the person I love now. An Chuxia is from the past. Even if I loved her before, my feelings have changed.”

“What did you say?!” Jiang Yuan is angry, and she throws the tablet at him.

Han Qilu doesn’t move, and the tablet hits his chest. He snorts without acquiescing. “I will be good to An Chuxia, but all she is to me is my sister.”

“You’ll realize how ridiculous your words are when your memories come back,” she states strongly. “I don’t think she’d want to enter this house if all we do is yell at each other!”

The Han servants nervously watch the mother and son argue from the sideline. They want to stop them from shoving each other, but neither want to get caught in the fight. After all, they’re the masters (of the home) and none of them want to lose their jobs.

Then, the living room phone rings. A servant answers the phone immediately. Shortly after that, the servant approaches Qilu and Jiang Yuan meekly. “Mistress, the Master is asking why you’re not at the hospital yet. He’s there waiting.”

Han Liuhai received news that An Chuxia was in the hospital shortly after Jiang Yuan was informed. Unfortunately, he was in a meeting and asked Jiang Yuan to head to the hospital before him. After that, Jiang Yuan forgot she was meeting Han Liuhai there.

“Tell him I’m heading there soon,” Jiang Yuan instructs before looking at Han Qilu. “Mankuai’s lover, understand the point I’m making, and consider whether or not you want to take back what you said. I don’t want you to bother An Chuxia. If you do, you will return to Stein with An Chuxia as early as next week.”

Han Qilu remains stoic despite his mother’s words. He didn’t talk back. Instead, he goes up the stairs and meets the maid whom he ordered to fetch his phone. Taking the device, he enters the password. He repeatedly uses the same code, so he hasn’t forgotten it.

He is stunned as soon as he unlocks the device. His wallpaper is an image of An Chuxia. She is bare-faced and lying on his bed. He flashes his teeth and walks away.

Jiang Yuan calling him “Mankuai’s lover” is akin to saying that he has made a decision to sever any relationship with the Han family in the future. Once upon a time, the Han group wasn’t as prosperous. Mankuai’s future would’ve been brighter if she went overseas to study and follow her path of music rather than stay with Qilu.

This is why Jiang Yuan is critical about Mankuai’s motives in returning to Qilu’s side. But regardless of her motives, good or bad, she can’t tolerate conniving people.

In the hospital, Han Liuhai sits on An Chuxia’s bed while they converse. “Do you think you can still catch up with your school work despite the fact that so much time has passed? We can hire a tutor while you’re in the hospital.”

“That’s unnecessary.” An Chuxia waves him off. “Asking for a tutor is more of a hassle. I’ll just ask my friend to bring me my textbooks and do some reading. If I don’t understand something, I can ask the teacher.”

Liuhai is pleased to hear her response. His future daughter-in-law is so responsible. But at the same time, he’s worried about Qilu. “Why are you saying that Han Qilu is bad when it comes to you? No matter how big or small your concerns (for him) are, let us (Jiang Yuan and I) worry about it.”

The moment he makes the statement, he remembers Qilu’s memory loss and knows he said something wrong. Despite being a business giant, he stumbles in front of his daughter-in-law. He quickly corrects himself. “I shouldn’t have said that. I didn’t know what I was thinking.”

“It doesn’t matter.” An Chuxia shakes her head. “I know Han Qilu is rather clever. He just refuses to remember. As long as he’s determined to recollect his memories, he’ll be okay.”

Han Liuhai is pleased she still praises his son. Holding a disposable plastic cup in one hand, while the other drums the fingers, he says, “Don’t be too upset, Chuxia. The doctor says that in time, he’ll recover.”

“I know. Thank you, Pa.”

“You’ll see, my child.” Han Liuhai smiles despite the discomfort in his heart. He has consulted with Qilu’s physicians in the United States, and truthfully, the likelihood that he gets back his memories is very slim.

How can he tell An Chuxia the truth?

Jiang Yuan finally arrives, and the three of them have a pleasant afternoon just conversing. Once the evening arrives, An Chuxia tells them to head home. Jiang Yuan wants to stay with her, but An Chuxia insists they should rest. Jiang Yuan has no choice but to return in the morning.

Once Jiang Yuan leaves, the ward falls into silence. Chuxia looks up at the night sky and sighs. “Will you recover your memories? If you can’t, can I make you like me again?”

She doesn’t expect her private thoughts to be heard by someone sneaking into the ward. “Of course, I will like you again!”

The interrupted silence shocks An Chuxia. She turns around and sees Meng Xiaonan. An Chuxia expels a sigh of relief before throwing a pillow at her. “When did you arrive? You scared me!”

Meng Xiaonan easily catches the pillow before walking it back with a smile. “You’re rather positive, and i think something big is about to happen. When I came home from school, I asked my dad if I can spend the night with you while you are in the hospital.”

“Asked?” An Chuxia turns to her. “Your relationship with your father has drastically improved!”

“Of course!” Meng Xiaonan unceremoniously plops herself at the edge of the bed, sighing loudly. “Did you know he took my mother back to our house, and the next day, he reapplied for a marriage certificate?!”

“Then I should he sending you salutations!” she says to Xiaonan. An Chuxia feels lighter, feeling like she has a reason to return [to life]. With Mankuai and Qilu’s rekindled love, she was at the verge of collapse!

Joking aside, Meng Xiaonan returns to a more serious tone. “Is the news real? Young master Qilu has lost his memories that included you?”

An Chuxia nods. “It is not that strange for him to lose those months. I just wish he forgot the years he and Mankuai shared!”

Meng Xiaonan laughs excitedly as she looks at Chuxia. “Rest assured that Xiangrikui will rid of this bitch sooner than later!”

“Xiangrikui?” Chuxia was dumbfounded when she realizes this is the nickname Xiaonan gave Mo Xinwei. “Xiangrikui isn’t as good as you think. Everyone’s just telling me to wait for Qilu to recover his memories.”
