The supermarket can be reached from the inpatient department without going outside. The trip seems to be a good way to kill time.

It seems like the rain won’t let up for a while. Both of them standing in the awning would only look stupid. Han Qilu concedes with her idea, agreeing that walking around would relieve them from boredom.

Since An Chuxia has been in the hospital for a while, she naturally leads them around by walking ahead.

Since returning from the wild adventure, An Chuxia decided to grow out the bangs that used to reveal a bright and full forehead. Without her bangs, she looks like a refined and beautiful lady. Qilu compares her to a white lily that has been filled with water, with a crystal droplet forming on its lotus leaf. He wishes to hold that droplet in his hand.

Today, she wears a small and cute outfit, and having nothing but her back to look at makes him feel a little lost.

She’s completely different from Mankuai; everyone says she’s authentic. Everyone seems to love her… And with her own life at stake, she searched for him, alone, day and night.

After he left her yesterday, he investigated the events that stemmed the problem in Snake Mountain. He found out that two rival gangs from the United States were out for war. One of the gang leaders liked An Chuxia, while the other used her as a pawn. When the rival gang took pity on her, she was released by a huge boulder.

If it weren’t for his dire circumstances and luck, he would’ve been shot dead. If it weren’t for An Chuxia, he would’ve since met his maker.

His footsteps suddenly become heavy as he follows An Chuxia. He didn’t know what to do with this guilt, but he knows he could let his emotions for An Chuxia linger.

“That… .” Qilu’s Adam’s apple bobbles as he attempts to say something.

An Chuxia immediately stops walking upon hearing him speak. She wrinkled her brow ever so slightly that he wanted to reach out and smoothen the soft folds forming on her forehead.

Wait, what the hell is he thinking about?!

Han Qilu returns to his senses and swallows. He suddenly reminds her, “Walk slowly. The floor’s wet.”

She appears to be somewhat flattered, and it leaves Han Qilu vexed. Her expression reminds him that she’s naturally a happy person. Then, why is she uncomfortable around Mankuai?

He dare not think about the situation anymore. He tears his glance away from her. “Go.”

“Okay!”

Han Qilu impatiently steps ahead of An Chuxia, leaving her to catch up to him.

Then, he reminds himself to slow down. He kicks himself mentally for what he’d just done. Maybe he should’ve just told her to be more careful?

The light in An Chuxia’s eyes dim, but her natural optimism makes her spirit soar. She’s just glad this “meeting” is off to a good start! Her pace lightens as she changes her mindset.

The small supermarket is busy regardless of the time of the day. Family members visiting inpatients shop the store for daily necessities.

Today would’ve been considered a light day, but there is still a queue of ten waiting to go through the cashier’s line to pay.

The first thing Chuxia does upon arrival is secure a shopping cart to push. Regardless of how many items she buys, she grabs one just in case.

“What are you purchasing?” he asks, wondering why she needs a cart.

“Since I’ve just been discharged, I want to repay Mommy for taking care of me this past few days by making her dinner,” she says in honesty.

He heard An Chuxia can cook. All the girls he know are all fingers when it comes to washing dishes; forget about cooking! He speaks up, “Are you sure you want to buy food here?”

An Chuxia thinks as she watches him look for the exit. Truly, this small supermarket is all she knows. Despite having all the amenities, there isn’t a grocery section since there’s no place to cook in the hospital.

Seeing the black line cross her face, he smirks. “Stupid.”

In the past, she’d be upset when Han Qilu would slander her. But now, for some odd reason, his statement makes her feel warm and satisfied.

“Then let’s go.” An Chuxia helplessly spreads her hands. “I just remembered they don’t sell food here.”

Han Qilu takes the shopping cart from An Chuxia and returns it to the shopping cart queue. He could’ve told her he’s been at this supermarket too, and knows what they sell.

“Where are you going?” She asks, as she sees him walk toward the freezer aisle. She’s secretly pleased to see him buy ice cream for her.

But the happiness is short lived. Qilu picks out a tri-colored popsicle and starts eating it once he takes it out of the freezer.

“Oh, master!” An Chuxia exclaims. “You ate the popsicle without paying for it!”

“But I didn’t bring money.” Han Qilu raises his eyebrow, looking unhappy.

Definitely, he won’t be able to eat a King’s meal. He can buy this supermarket without batting an eyelash. But there are rules: like paying first. The young master rarely visits supermarkets. As long as steward Han pays for him, he wouldn’t know these rules.

An Chuxia sighs, giving him too much credit to think outside of himself. Sighing, she buys a popsicle similar to Qilu’s, and takes him and their purchases to the checkout counter.

The once-busy cashier is now free. An Chuxia puts the popsicle on the counter and says in embarrassment, “Please swipe twice.”

The cashier looks at Qilu, who is eating the popsicle, and says nothing as he scans the popsicle twice.

They walk out of the supermarket and walk back to where they once stood, only this time, they eat their popsicles in silence.

As they head back down the hospital corridor, they realize the rain had stopped. As they walk to the parking lot, people start recognizing them. They stop and stare before walking away.

Han Qilu decided to drive a low-profile SUV to the hospital so he wouldn’t attract attention. Alas, they still got recognized.

He gets into the car and starts the engine. Then, he realizes An Chuxia isn’t getting in.

The rain may have stopped, but a light drizzle still falls. A light layer covers her hair and skin, making her look like a light layer of frost has formed on her.

“Why aren’t you getting in?” He asks her, confused.

He doesn’t like people staring at him like an animal in the zoo. Since his childhood, he has gotten used to being stared at since he’s the sole heir to the Han Group. Growing up, the looks didn’t dissipate; his aura and his looks from Jiang Yuan garnered him even more of those.

“I’ll get in after finishing my popsicle,” she says. She turns, runs through the grass and tosses the stick in the garbage can, then runs back to the car.

Han Qilu, on the other hand, coughs and throws the rest of his uneaten popsicle on the pavement.

“Do you want me to sit upfront or in the back?” She used to sit next to him, but she doesn’t dare assume, fearing his wrath and forcing her to get out of the car.

She doesn’t want to prolong her stay in the hospital, and the two popsicles she bought ate into her money– what she has isn’t enough for a cab ride home. If Qilu leaves her, she surely would end up crying [in despair].

“Sit in front,” Han Qilu says before quickly adding, “Wait!”

At that moment, An Chuxia leans over the window and realizes Qilu has left his seat, and is looking at her chest. Her outfit is a short sleeve with a relatively high collar. She wonders why he told her to wait. Then, she feels his warm touch. He uses his thumb to wipe off the popsicle from her mouth. She tries to be careful with her gaze and suddenly jumps away. “Thank you. I’m getting in.”

She swipes the corner of her mouth before sitting in the passenger seat. She can still feel her heart beating fast. She stares at Qilu as he rounds the car. He looks calm as he opens the car door, sits, and drives the car away from the hospital.

It would take some time to return to the Han residence. As they head out, both are silent; one drives carefully while the other stares out the window. The silence starts getting to An Chuxia, and she’s about to break the silence when Han Qilu speaks up first. “Why did we break up?”

She tries to comprehend his question, but her brain is running at a speed that can only calculate a one-dimensional equation.

She understands that “we” referred to them, but she doesn’t comprehend the “why break up” part. She knows he’s not trying to salvage their relationship.
