Alright.  Now I don't know how to break this generator, but Sala gave me a few tips.  First off, this wheel thing.  It's some kinda control device.  Flinging it all the way over and breaking it would be bad.  Second off, this bit where the smoke comes out.  If it gets smashed, or if someone unscrews it, the room will fill with smoke and nobody will have a good time.

Hmm.  I'm sure one of the dragons would be happy to free itself.  I'm sure some of them are bored.

The bird then flutters over towards the dragon pen.  Some of them are bored.  Most of them continue lazing around, but a good number of eyes go bird-wards and some of them go walk over.  Raucous then spends the next few minutes trying to talk to them, speaking in human and doing a number of croaks and screeches.  It doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

I wonder why I can't speak with them?  They must be different in some way than the other animals.  I can't understand them and they don't seem to be able to understand me.  Hmph.  having to work through humans is going to be a lot harder.

But which humans?  I don't think the people who own this place and work here can be convinced to break their own generator.. they might know how it works.  And I don't want to show myself to anyone who does work here.

..I need to be back at the meeting and listen in.  I don't think Fancy Shirt Guy will come here alone, so there will be guards and maybe servants.  I need to listen in.

There's one big bit of luck.  As it turns out, they aren't picking up the dragon today.  So there's time to listen in.  Find out which guards seem more competent than others.  (All pretty good, but a couple are scared of the dragons, which is useful.)  The servants (All pretty good except the guy's butler, who for whatever reason seems both lazy and moderately incompetent.  Maybe he's a good brownnoser?)  The visitors then retire to the inn's top floor.

Hmm.  To get things done, I'll need them to be a bit off-balance.  Lets see if I can guarantee a few things to go wrong for tomorrow.  If they're freaking out at things going wrong, it'll be easier to convince one of them to follow my orders and break the generator.  I think I'll also need a mole..

One of the guards doesn't like the guy.  Well, they all don't like Fluffy Shirt Guy.  But three of them are professional enough to not grumble about it, only smelling like they agree with grumble-guy.  Plus they don't tell him off.  But Grumble-guy.. well, lets see if he does something when offered the opportunity.

So that night, the bird infiltrates their room.  Four straw mattresses are on the floor.  Thin mattresses, barely thick enough to cushion the weight of a person.  Much better than sleeping on the ground, but a long way from what anyone would call 'good'.  'Barely Adequate' is the better word for them.

There is also underfloor space.  It takes some time to find a rodent hole, and it requires a slight bit of enlarging to fit the bird, but eventually Raucous is crawling through the rocky, dirty underfloor space below the inn, creeping over to where the Grumble Guard is sleeping.  A few quiet words later, there's a brief awakening, but eventually the guy chooses to listen to the strange voice whispering at him from below.

"I'm Fox, the good thief.  Tomorrow I mean to rob your fancy boss.  Would you like to earn a cut?"

The rest of the conversation goes smoothly.  Although he doesn't know what a fox is.  Bloody strange world.
