In May 2023, summer arrived early. With the sound of cicadas in the afternoon, someone made a popular post on a famous sports forum in China.

【Hot~】What’s your next step in life?

1L

Flying to the volleyball game to watch handsome guys, instead of going to the beach like a seagull to order French fries.

2L Landlord

Sweetie, I don’t want superficial answers like that. I’m talking about the next meaningful step, something that involves the direction of your life.

3L

The meaningful next step for me is flying to the volleyball game to watch that handsome mixed-race guy born in 2000, with a quarter of R blood, and a pair of gray-blue wolf eyes. He saved my eyes from being polluted by the capital traffic.

4L

Mixed men’s volleyball team? Team Qin, right? He became famous for his looks when he was the main attacker in Province G, and he’s also strong. Unfortunately, he’s only 1.8 meters tall, so he has never been able to make it into the national team. But I didn’t expect that after playing in the Brazilian League for two years, he became a libero.

5L

And he’s also a libero who won the championship in the Brazilian league. Although he’s in the second team, Brazilian fans love him too, because he has wolf-like eyes just like the top Brazilian supermodel Lima.

Qin Chunxiao wore a mask, transparent goggles, and gloves. He held his suitcase and stood among a group of tall men with an average height of 1.95 meters. He was shorter in comparison.

Vice-captain Ding Rong checked everyone’s air tickets and documents once again: “Make sure you take care of your air tickets and passports. We finally have the chance to participate in the World League again. Let’s cherish this opportunity, and no one is allowed to mess up!”

The full name of the World League, as he referred to it, is the FIVB Volleyball Nations League. It is a competition that was established in 1993. It consists of 12 core teams and 4 challenge teams, totaling 16 teams from different countries.

If player wished to participate in this competition, they were required to pay 250,000 euros to the FIVB, which is equivalent to more than 1.9 million RMB.

Due to the pandemic, the domestic volleyball association did not register them last year, causing the boys to miss out on most of the opportunities to participate in international competitions. Fortunately, they had now been cleared in China. Additionally, next year will be the Paris Olympics, so they will be sent out for training.

As Vice-Captain Ding mentioned, this was an opportunity that must be cherished. Their team’s strength was not particularly strong, so they need to identify the combat capabilities and technical characteristics of other countries’ volleyball teams in advance. By carefully strategizing, they could secure a quota for the Olympic Games next year.

The athlete’s professional career is limited to those years. It was difficult to have another chance if they miss this opportunity.

Ding Rong walked up to Qin Chunxiao and saw the young libero, who had just joined the team, holding his passport and plane ticket against his chest for easy inspection. His blue eyes looked up at people from below, giving him an especially obedient appearance. Ding Rong relaxed and reached into his pocket, handing Qin Chunxiao an energy bar.

“Go ahead and take a seat. The flight is delayed by an hour. It’s tiring to stand and wait.”

There weren’t many flights from Shanghai to Paris, only two per week, and they used the same plane, AF251, an old veteran aircraft of Air France with a service history of twenty years. It was stable, reliable, and trustworthy, but occasionally it would experience delays, so one had to remain patient while waiting.

After finishing the energy bar, Qin Chunxiao felt a bit thirsty and wanted to drink water. He then realized that he had left his small bear water bottle, which he usually carried vegetable and fruit juice in, at home because liquids were not allowed on the plane.

He said to the captain, “Qiao Ge, I want to drink water.”

Captain Qiao Mingming immediately rummaged through his backpack and said, “Oh, we’ve already finished the water. Li Ling probably brought milk. You can ask him for some.”

Li Ling was the team’s second setter and receiver. He was famous for his love of milk in the domestic volleyball circle. Qin Chunxiao looked around but didn’t see Li Ling. He overheard Ding Rong and the coach discussing how to manage the kids in the team while abroad.

He stood up and said, “I’ll go find Li Ling.”

Based on Qin Chunxiao’s understanding of Li Ling, he probably went to the restroom after drinking too much milk. Following the airport signs, Qin Chunxiao found the men’s restroom and sure enough, he saw a tall figure wearing the team uniform.

Li Ling was standing with a group of people near the bench closest to the restroom. There were quite a few girls in the crowd, excitedly whispering to each other and occasionally letting out screams.

“It’s Xuan Dong!”

“Lu Xuandong, haven’t seen him in a long time.”

“Hey, Xuan Dong, it’s been a while. How have you been lately?”

Li Ling stood in front of them, waving his hands desperately. “Don’t crowd together. Don’t you know that we shouldn’t gather in public places? Everyone, please disperse quickly.”

His efforts to drive them away didn’t work, and the girls remained enthusiastic. Qin Chunxiao’s eyes shifted, and he turned to find an airport staff member.

“There are a group of people crowded over there, and some of them are not wearing masks.”

The staff member immediately jumped up and rushed over. Qin Chunxiao conveniently bought a bottle of chilled mineral water from a nearby convenience store. When he leisurely approached, he saw Li Ling and the staff member escorting someone towards the rest area. It was most likely the person the girls were referring to as “Lu Xuandong.”

Qin Chunxiao asked Li Ling, “What happened?”

Li Ling wiped his sweat and spoke in Shandong-style Mandarin, “Don’t mention it. This guy suddenly collapsed while washing his hands in the restroom. I felt something was wrong and helped him out, but then he was surrounded by a group of little girls. Can you believe how scary that was?”

Qin Chunxiao felt that the name Lu Xuandong was familiar. Seeing that the other party was well dressed and the upper half of his face was delicately covered by a mask, he guessed that the other party was a star. Kindly, he handed a bottle of mineral water to him. The other party, Lu Xuandong, looked up at Qin Chunxiao, opened his mouth as if to thank him, but made no sound.

Qin Chunxiao smiled at him and pulled Li Ling away, saying, “Go back quickly, stop running around the airport, and be careful of the coach and vice-captain scolding you together.”

They ran back together and, as expected, were caught by Ding Rong. Qin Chunxiao clasped his hands together, smiled flatteringly with his head up. Ding Rong wanted to scold but couldn’t. Finally, he just sighed and said, “Don’t wander off, you two! What should we do now?”

Li Ling muttered, “Why did the two men get lost?”

Ding Rong glared at him, and Qin Chunxiao immediately pulled Li Ling away. This idiot, Deputy Ding was from the Bayi Team, and his martial arts were so fierce that he was so angry that Li Ling could be in trouble.

Air France was delayed for 90 minutes, and everyone had a hard time getting on the plane. Qin Chunxiao and his teammates did not sit together.

There was no way, the men’s volleyball team had limited funds and personnel, so it was a surprise to be able to provide them with foreign competitions. The team’s coaches and team doctors were busy with other tasks. The athletes were given air tickets to book their own flight times and then get reimbursed by the higher-ups. Therefore, the seats were scattered.

Everyone on the plane wore masks and, after stowing their luggage, they quietly went about their own business. Qin Chunxiao hadn’t entered the sixth grade of university yet, so he was silently memorizing words with a dictionary in hand.

His neighbor hurriedly arrived 10 minutes before the plane took off. Qin Chunxiao was so focused on reciting that he didn’t notice him until a slender, white hand gently tapped his arm. He turned his head and saw his neighbor’s slender, white hand holding a piece of purple leather candy in the palm.

The gentleman sitting next to him had very recognizable facial features. Qin Chunxiao recognized him at a glance as Lu Xuandong. At that moment, the other party looked at him silently, and there seemed to be a trace of anxiety in his expression.

Seeing Qin Chunxiao take the purple candy, Lu Xuandong rolled his eyes and took out a book to read.

Lu Xuandong… Qin Chunxiao thought for a while and felt that he had heard this name somewhere before. It so happened that a girl was chatting in the front row at that time.

“Bai Ming and Lu Yunchen’s divorce lawsuit is over. Lu Yunchen paid 500 million yuan as a breakup fee. Tsk tsk tsk, Best Actor Bai has made a lot of money.”

“I said they should have split earlier.”

“I will never believe in true love in the future. Soul mates can be so ugly. This world…”

“Hey, what are soul mates compared to money?”

Hearing this, Qin Chunxiao had a flash of inspiration. He remembered that the biggest sponsor of their team was the domestic first-line sports brand Zheyue, and the boss of Zheyue was surnamed Lu. Lu had two sons: the youngest son, Lu Yunchen, who divorced the actor Bai Ming, and the eldest

When he first learned about the plot of “The Young Master of a Rich Family,” Qin Chunxiao was still in the second semester of the second year of junior high school, struggling to prepare for the high school entrance examination.

He excelled in science but struggled with English. Qin Chunxiao couldn’t even score 90 out of 150 on the test paper. His sister, Qin Chunfeng, ranked as the top student in the liberal arts stream in the college entrance examination in G City.

“Xiaoxiao’s English is hopeless; let him study more papers and score higher in science. Whether he can get into the key points depends on fate.”

His sister tossed down a stack of papers she had bought from a part-time job, covered his face, went into the kitchen, ate ten popsicles, and ended up at the clinic for enteritis that afternoon.

In this kind of situation, when the sky is dark and entertainment options like TV and games are temporarily set aside, who can resist the temptation to read a novel twice? Whether you like it or not, and whether it looks good or not, is one thing, as long as it provides a temporary escape from studying.

And the book that appeared in Qin Chunxiao’s mind was “The Young Master of a Rich Family Is Top-notch.”

The first third of the book revolves around Lu Yunchen, a young master from a billionaire family who returns from studying abroad to participate in a reality show variety program, only to discover that his soulmate is actor Bai Ming. Since then, he becomes involved in various endorsements and receives program invitations.

Qin Chunxiao was delighted to read this. During his time in middle school, love songs were still rare in China, but he knew of Bai Ming. Bai Ming was a little idol who had returned from abroad and had quite a few girls who were his fans. This novel seemed to be based on real-life characters.

During an interview, Bai Ming mentioned that he has had achromatic vision since birth and couldn’t even obtain a driver’s license in his twenties. Many fans were thrilled by this revelation, as achromatic vision is a characteristic of a soulmate. Such individuals only make up 3% of the total population, and their color vision returns only when they see their soul mate. It’s a truly romantic notion.

As we all know, idols who have soulmates but haven’t found them are more likely to become popular, as fans can easily imagine themselves as their soulmates. In the past, there have been small idols who claimed to have soulmates. The internet is filled with discussions and speculations.

On the internet, there are quite a few fans who dream of being Bai Ming’s soulmate. They wrote and giggled about it every day, but one particular girl who sits at the front desk dropped about 20 places in the monthly exams. When the test papers were returned, she cried like a sobby mess. The next day, she announced that she was not going to be a fan and swore that she would never pursue stars again in her life, vowing to return to the top ten in the class.

For her, idols are not as important as academic scores.

Meanwhile, the protagonist in the novel had a privileged background and the opportunity to study abroad, but he ended up in the entertainment industry. This raises the question of who will inherit his family’s multi-billion fortune. As Qin Chunxiao, a middle school student, reads the book, he complained about this and wonders how the author will addressed this plot hole.

The middle part of “The Rich Young Master Is Top-Notch” focuses on the emotional entanglement between actor Bai Ming and the protagonist.

Although their world had the concept of soul mates, where seeing the destined person brings back color vision and evokes strong emotions, it doesn’t necessarily mean that soulmates must become romantic partners.

Some people met their soul mates, experience the return of color vision, and yet choose to get married and have children with someone else. In such cases, soulmates may simply be a fortunate encounter. There was also the possibility of developing an unrelated intimate relationship, whether it be friendship or a familial bond.

Initially, Bai Ming and Lu Yunchen had a great relationship. However, Bai Ming was ambitious and focused more on his career. While he claimed to deeply love Lu Yunchen, he criticized him for not taking over the family business and deemed him irresponsible, leading to a breakup proposal.

When Lu Yunchen proposed to his parents that he wanted to take over part of the family business out of love, another twist occurred in the plot. The Lu family’s products faced a major quality control issue, and it was Bai Ming who took responsibility, apologized on behalf of the Lu family, and managed to gain public understanding.

At first glance, this plot may seem sweet, and Bai Ming appears charming. However, Qin Chunxiao senses that something was amiss.

Wasn’t’t the family business supposed to be Lu Yunchen’s responsibility?

What was Bai Ming meddling with?

If Lu Yunchen was willing to take over, he could do so. If he chose not to, his parents could handle the business themselves. When there was a problem with the product, a proper course of action would be to immediately remove it from the shelves and fix it, rather than just offering apologies.

Qin Chunxiao wondered, “If things continue like this, wouldn’t it be unsurprising if Bai Ming intends to steal Lu Yunchen’s family business?”

After all, the protagonist appeared foolish and narcissistic, and even middle school students can sense that something was amiss.

As the story reached its climax in the final part of “The Young Master of a Rich Family,” the conflicts between the protagonists Lu Yunchen and Bai Ming intensified. Lu Yunchen was a wealthy young master lacking motivation, while Bai Ming was a rising star who overcame various obstacles to become an actor. Suddenly, Bai Ming developed ambiguous feelings for an ex-boyfriend who appeared out of nowhere.

When the conflict between the two reached its peak, Lu Yunchen’s long-lost brother, Lu Xuandong, entered the picture. According to the article, Lu Xuandong had sung on the streets since childhood to earn money for his adoptive mother and younger sister. He was discovered by scouts and became a child actor. With his exceptional voice, musical talent, and striking appearance, he eventually became a superstar in the music industry.

Qin Chunxiao commented, “Lu Xuandong has had a tough life, truly miserable!”

However, before Lu Yunchen returned to China, his family found his long-lost brother. At that point, Lu Xuandong had already earned enough money and decided to leave the entertainment industry to pursue further studies. He left his resources in the industry to his younger brother. Only then did Lu Yunchen get involved in a romantic drama. As the protagonist’s brother, Lu Xuandong had to work hard to study and take over the family business, while the protagonist himself inherited billions of dollars, some shares, married an actor from the entertainment industry, and lived a sweet and comfortable life.

Qin Chunxiao remarked, “This brother seems to be just a plot device, right?”

In the end, Bai Ming broke up with his ex-boyfriend and officially reunited with Lu Yunchen. Bai Ming decided to set aside his career and marry Lu Yunchen abroad. And thus, the story concluded.

Qin Chunxiao questioned, “Wait a minute, how did the plot develop like this? What about logic? What about pacing? Before, I thought Bai Ming was going to deceive Lu Yunchen, and I was prepared to witness a dramatic turn of events. Now you’re telling me they ended up having a sexual relationship? Did Lu Yunchen and Bai Ming sign a prenuptial agreement before getting married?”

If the author continued to write like this, they would receive a one-star rating in the end. Did he realize that?

Just then, his mother called out, “Xiaoxiao, come and eat!”

Qin Chunxiao acknowledged and set the book aside.

In the beginning, he was concerned about the plot of “The Young Master of a Rich Family” because it involved real people and garnered significant online attention. When the story started, the whole internet exclaimed, “Actor Bai Ming’s soulmate appears in the romantic drama!” He was a little excited, thinking that it would unleash his predictive abilities and become more intriguing. However, as he flipped through the plot in his mind, he realized that the entire story only revolved around emotional entanglements and lacked any shortcuts to becoming wealthy, like lottery numbers.

Considering that the housing prices in City G have already reached 40,000 yuan, Qin Chunxiao sighed and let go of unrealistic fantasies. He continued to work hard, study diligently, and aimed to save enough for a down payment before the age of thirty, so he could move his family out of their old and small rented house.

He had contemplated philosophical questions like “Am I living in reality?” in the past, but he quickly regained his sanity.

Furthermore, being an athlete meant facing constant challenges and defeats. After experienced several injuries, Qin Chunxiao felt that the world he lived in was incredibly real. In fact, it was almost too real to bear. He sometimes wished that certain things were simply unreal.

If only it was fake that he had less than five figures in savings, and if the ankle injury was fake, life would be so much better.

The encounter with Lu Xuandong was the first time Qin Chunxiao met one of the characters from the original book after learning about the plot.

The handsome guy standing in front of him was the heir of the Zheyue Group and the team’s financial backer. He would be their future boss. Holding the purple candy, Qin Chunxiao felt that he should have a conversation with Lu Xuandong.

He didn’t ask for much. Just a slight increase in sponsorship for the men’s volleyball team from Lu Xuandong. With that, would they be able to participate in the World League every year?

Boom!

Just as Qin Chunxiao was about to say something, the aircraft suddenly shook violently, accompanied by a loud noise.

Qin Chunxiao’s
