Mrs. Qin Chao looked puzzled as she held a shrimp dumpling and asked, “Aren’t you training for sprinting? Why do you want to buy a volleyball?”

The youngest son of the Qin family had displayed excellent athletic talent since childhood, and the city paid attention to sports development. Every year, coaches would come to elementary and middle schools for sports games to scout for talents. Many coaches in various sports such as long jump and gymnastics had taken notice of Qin Chunxiao.

As a result, his bone age had already been measured.

Qin Chunxiao’s father, Qin Ling, was 1.7 meters tall, and there was no one taller in the past few generations. His mother, Qin Chao, was 1.65 meters tall, while his grandmother was 1.5 meters tall, and his grandfather was a 1.85-meter Slav. His full name was Yevgenyevich Karkovsky.

Before the age of 12, Qin Chunxiao couldn’t remember his grandfather’s full name. He only knew that the chubby old man who owned a dessert shop next to their home in F City was called Iwan. He never referred to her and her sister by their Chinese nicknames but used their own Slav names, “Misha” and “Mia.”

Misha means little bear. Could it be that in his grandfather’s eyes, he was a bear?

Based on his 1/4 tall lineage and the results of genetic and bone age tests, Qin Chunxiao’s projected adult height would be between 1.78 and 1.81 meters.

Seeing this result, the gymnastics coach gave up on Qin Chunxiao with regret, saying, “It’s too tall.”

Gymnastics favors a small, lightweight body with a low center of gravity, which provides more stability during movements.

Qin Chunxiao also had doubts about high jump and pole vault, saying, “I’m too short.”

Those sports prefer athletes who are tall and thin, around 1.9 to 2 meters.

As for the volleyball coach… they never even paid attention to Qin Chunxiao.

In the realm of volleyball, giants dominate, and no one who is 1.9 meters tall would feel embarrassed standing in front of the net. Currently, most of the top domestic volleyball players come from the northern regions, where there are many tall individuals.

In the end, the sprint coach took Qin Chunxiao under his wing. He said, “1.8 meters is fine, and Xiao Qin’s Achilles tendon is longer than many black people. He can definitely run.”

A longer Achilles tendon allows for higher jumping and running speeds compared to ordinary people. It can even reduce pressure on the lumbar spine and lower the chance of back injuries. It is considered an athletic talent.

For example, the sprint god Usain Bolt has an Achilles tendon over 40 centimeters.

The NBA’s “answer,” Allen Iverson, stands at only 1.83 meters tall, but his Achilles tendon measures over 25 centimeters. He has a vertical jump height of 110 centimeters. This made him the No. 1 pick in the 1996 NBA draft, four-time NBA scoring champion, and a prominent figure in a league filled with giants.

Michael Jordan’s Achilles tendon measures 28 cm, and Kobe Bryant’s measures 30 cm.

Although the length of the Achilles tendon doesn’t guarantee an athlete’s ultimate achievement, it is an indicator of talent.

As an adult, Qin Chunxiao has a 25 cm Achilles tendon and a vertical leap of 109 cm. He possesses quick reactions and strong athletic abilities. Some people even refer to him as the “answer” of the Asian version.

Currently, Qin Chunxiao specializes in the 100-meter sprint. His best time in the city-level sports meet was 11.2 seconds, which left him 1.21 seconds away from his idol, Su Shen.

Coach Wu, who had been training Qin Chunxiao before, held high hopes for him. In his opinion, as long as he takes the special recruitment route, all key players in the city would be eager to have him.

In reality, Coach Wu wanted Qin Chunxiao to attend a sports school, where he could train this talented kid all day long. Eventually, he hoped to see him recruited into the city team, provincial team, and even the national team. However, Qin Chunxiao’s father, a scientific researcher, valued his child’s education more and preferred him to attend a good school.

This decision saved Qin Chunxiao from a catastrophe.

Just two months ago, the G City team was hit with news that Wu Jiajun had failed a drug test. It was revealed that Lao Wu had instructed the athletes to take “vitamins” to alleviate fatigue after training. However, it was later discovered that these were not vitamins but illegal drugs.

Several athletes opened bottles labeled A and B, but the test results still came back positive.

Old Wu’s reputation was completely ruined, and the athletes under him either left the team or were suspended. Only Qin Chunxiao, who had agreed to “rejoin the team after the high school entrance examination,” was unaffected.

Qin Chunxiao has always been in good health since he was a child and has never even had a fever. When a chickenpox outbreak occurred in elementary school, most of his classmates fell ill, and teachers were recruited to manage the situation. Qin Chunxiao was the only one in their class who remained unaffected. Apart from the calcium gluconate bought by his mother, he didn’t use any skincare products or take any oral medications, making him completely innocent.

Ms. Qin Chao even took her son for a drug test as a precaution, fearing that he might accidentally consume a stimulant. The inspectors were amazed and said, “Your child is fine, really. He’s in excellent health. He was the only one among the top three in the city-level competition last year. By the way, your son can make up for the gold medal.”

Qin Chunxiao hadn’t taken a single dose of medicine, hadn’t sustained any injuries, and achieved such remarkable results at the age of 15. Even if his qualifications weren’t enough for the stars in the sprinting world, he would undoubtedly be a top contender in domestic competitions.

In light of the incident, Qin Chunxiao’s father hurried home to take care of his son. His mother and sister even advised him to focus on his studies, take a break from sports for a while, and relax.

Qin Chunxiao: So now I want to borrow venues and equipment from the city’s track and field team, but it doesn’t seem possible.
