Chapter 30

Roughly half a year has passed since I met Master.

The seasons are changing, and summer is on it’s way!

These days, vibrant green covers the mountainscape, naked nasty rats spill out of their burrows, and roly polies wriggle under the leaves.

I’m chasing after Master through the mountains.

Without a sound, like the wind… we’re running at speeds unthinkable in my past life.

That's because we’re using [grasshopper] with every single step!

What would happen if you redirected enough force to jump meters vertically in an instant into purely horizontal movement?

Simple.

Don’t even have to think about it!

Tremendous speed.

And since the impact from each footstep gets converted to magical power, it’s almost silent.

Kicking off of tree trunks and the ground, we continue jumping until we reach a cliff.

Master’s speed doesn’t drop as he runs vertically up the cliff face.

This is just regular [silverfish].

I chase him up.

Woah! Master threw a rock down at me!

Of course, the rock is part of training so it’s not like it’ll kill me, but it’s hard to dodge.

Well that’s obvious though, since Master’s the one who threw it!

And if I get hit, a punishment game will be waiting for me.

Master's brews his gross tea to be even worse!

I mean, what is with him?

Isn't brewing tea Master's hobby?

Making your tea worse as a punishment, doesn’t that mean you know your tea is bad in the first place?

Shouldn’t that be sacrilege for a tea lover?

At this point, I arrive at the top of the cliff.

I've been running non-stop for more than two hours so far, so we should take a little break and check out the scenery… or not, since this is Master’s training.

He looks straight at me and raises his fists. I match his stance, and the exchange of blows begins.

Yep, we’re sparring.

Slowly, at first, then faster, and faster!

We take turns knocking away the other’s attacks.

…Even if the punches are slow, however, you can’t let down your guard.

Because each fist is packed with magical power!

Yes, it goes without saying that Master has already perfected that [magic strike] that I happened to learn a few months ago.

It’s a tad embarrassing, but the first time we sparred, I carelessly let Master’s low-speed punch make contact and got blown a few meters back!

In order to deflect [magic strike], you have to get rid of the magical power in the opponent’s fist through magical power conversion…

It’s a much more nerve-wracking spar than it looks like.

From here until the sun rises to its peak, we fight nonstop.

In the afternoon, Master and I go hunting and collect medicinal herbs, returning home by dark.

We work inside on crafts like putting together traps or mixing simple remedies before going to bed at a decent time.

And the next day, we’re up before sunrise again…

Lately, I spend my time stoically training.

I push both my physical strength and magical power to the limit every day, so that I’m pretty much dead by the time I go to sleep, but somehow I don’t get sore.

Little by little I’m seeing my abilities grow… and above all, Master is here.

Master is strong. Unreasonably strong.

I could tell from the beginning, but since then, through him teaching me, or me imitating his movements and control over magical power, I’ve become able to fight to some extent…

So, I tried to measure Master’s strength once more, but… I couldn’t really tell.

He’s too far away for me to be able to judge the distance.

Just by trading blows.

With that alone, I can feel unbelievable skill.

The way he handles himself, as well as his usage of magical power, its flow, collection, and dispersal.

Everything is concise; it’s beautiful.

I think I have the same amount of magical power as him now, though…

Even so, the distant gap between Master and I is probably the result of our difference in experience or skill.

Having built his strength to that level, I honestly respect him.

I’m grateful for my good luck that we were able to meet.

I want to stay with him forever.

I want him to teach me more and more things.

Dear Master.

I’ll be counting on you in the future as well.

Eh? What happened to learning [mantis]?

About that, apparently the basic principles were the exact same as what Omake-sama <<saw in the Sword God’s reincarnation broadcast>> for increasing the sharpness of a sword with [magic sword].

Once you know how to do it, it’s easy.

That one took no time.

That's all!
