A room that doesn't have any life.

The floor is covered in a cheesy1I think the author means in the corny way, not actual cheeseblue carpet and the walls in a gray wallpaper.
Several rows of white wooden shelves contain the few belongings of the owner of the room.

"Why. . . Did this happen?"

Sitting uncomfortably in a used office chair given to him by his workplace, the Grim Reaper Alogoros was holding his head in confusion.
The display floating atop his desk showed a video recording of the world.

Grim Reaper Alogoros.
A bearer of death with purple eyes, a symbol of which the living could not escape.

Alogoros was feared by many of the inhabitants but in reality, was just a low-class god who serves Asava as an errand boy.
His appearance made him seem like tidy 30-year-old, but by the gods' standards, he was pretty ordinary.
The only unique part about him was his purple eyes, yet even those were constantly overshadowed by the other gods.
Contrary to the fear surrounding him, Alogoros's personality was bland.
That is the god named Alogoros.

Now, such a god was wallowing in embarrassment.
He scratched his head and sighed loudly before grabbing fistfuls of his hair.

"This is bad. . . Very bad! The story hasn't even started yet the foundation has already collapsed!"

. . . Yes, Alogoros was going to do an isekai stream.
The title was "Priestess of Death".
A dark and action-packed tale about a girl trapped by a cult, the protagonist was going to meet a master, grow up, and defeat many powerful enemies. . .
That was what he had prepared and the sacrifices to do it were costly and time-consuming.
Alogoros had to use his powers as a Grim Reaper to prepare the characters' fate.
He also had to pay 60,000 mana, pricey for a low-class god, just to purchase the soul of the protagonist, an Earthling named "Misaki Nakayasu", reincarnating her and giving her protection.
It was all ready.
All he needed to do was start the story and document the outcome.
It should have been smooth sailing.

. . . But!

"W-why was the Grim Reaper of Ashgo killed!?"

The Grim Reaper of Ashgo was the world's best assassin, albeit a little old.
Alogoros greatly cherished the Grim Reaper of Ashgo, they both had "Grim Reaper" in their name and Alogoros liked his silent personality.
His lack of sensitivity to oracles prevented him from becoming an apostle.

And it was Dahachie who killed him!

Alogoros did not like Dahachie at all, who was his actual apostle and his tool.
Dahachie was susceptible to his bidding which made him a great tool to use, but something happened when Alogoros sent the oracle to him.
Dahachie created a doctrine and cult out of delusions, making a ritual before killing people and saying vows like "I will dedicate my soul to the precious god Alogoros-sama".

"Precious god, wwwwwwww2That's the JP version of laughing" He was teased mercilessly everyday because of this.

In the first place, Alogoros didn't even want to collect human souls.
His job as a Grim Reaper was to quickly retrieve human spirits so that they couldn't become evil and bring them back to the netherworld.
Well, most of the soul retrieving was automated, all he needed to do was manage the soul recovery system.
If there was anyone who could do harm to the system, he ordered his apostles to eliminate them, but that's only for irregularities.

"It's funny. . . In the Grim Reaper of Ashgo's fate showcasing, he was supposed to follow Dahachie."

"Fate showcasing" was a future prediction that was derived from various causes and effects such as the personality of the individual, their behavior history, and their surroundings.
It is a godly power that requires massive computation.

Alogoros is a Grim Reaper and obtained permission from the God of the netherworld, Asava, to attend a seminar 500 years ago.

Anyway, the fate of the Grim Reaper of Ashgo had twisted off of its intended course and he ended up dead.
There was no doubt that the cause was the black-haired girl who witnessed his death.
Alogoros did not see her at all in the showcasing of fate.

"Where did this kid come from? . . . Sigh, I guess this kind of thing happens sometimes. . ."

Although gods made the prediction, it was only a guess based on the situation during the time of the reading and the accuracy was not 100%.
Naturally, irregularities that were not understood could get mixed up in the calculations.

The Grim Reaper of Ashgo had lost his purpose in life.
Dahachie was going to arrive when the Grim Reaper was questioning what to do.
Since he had nothing else to do, he followed Dahachie to the cult.
There he met Shura Torvert, the third daughter of Countess Torvert, a girl who reincarnated and had the protection of Alogoros and became her mentor.

This was the fate predicted by Alogoros for the story of "The Priestess of Death".

However, the Grim Reaper of Ashgo already accepted an apprentice long before and had his life purpose changed into teaching and nurturing his disciple.
Since this was the case, there was no way the Grim Reaper of Ashgo would ever accept Dahachie's request and instead battled him.

"Dahachie was never meant to kill the Grim Reaper of Ashgo in the original tale."

Thinking of his apostle, who tended to run wild, Alogoros sighed.

"I mean, what should I do, my isekai stream. . ."

The Grim Reaper of Ashgo, the mentor was dead.
The cult designed to kidnap the protagonist and trigger the story, had been destroyed.
Recovery was no longer a possibility.

"This. . . this was supposed to be my debut. . ."

Yes, this was Alogoros's first stream.
He was always a serious god who just focused on work, but the only reason he tried this was because he met a cute goddess who was a popular isekai streamer, and he wanted to get closer with her by having a common hobby.

"My. . . my 60,000 mana. . ."

Again, the 60,000 mana needed to buy the soul was expensive for a god who didn't make that much.

". . . . . . . . . . . . . Enough, let's just go to bed."

In the end, Alogoros gave up many things and decided to go to bed.
For the last 5,000 years or so, he had been working without a break.
Even if he slept for 100 years, there would be no punishment.
The system could take care of the souls.

Requesting leave from the netherworld to Asava is. . . Can I do it later?
That boss is very noisy about varied things.
Even if she is my boss, it's not good to ask about others personal life, such as "Are you eating properly?" or "Are you cleaning your room?"
So troublesome.
There were times when she said she'd make me food and tried to get inside my room.
That's an invasion of privacy.
If I suddenly asked for leave, she's going to start making noise.
Imagining such a scene. . . My head hurts.
I just want to sleep.

With that in mind, Alogoros crawled into his futon.
He turns off the light and drapes the blanket over his head.
In the quiet room, all you can hear is even breathing.
